Conflict in the Middle East

To think Israel won't exist much longer?

sergeantsalt · 28/10/2023 07:56

Support in the west is declining, and when Israel doesn't have weapons and defense funding they won't be able to defend against their neighbouring countries on their own. AIBU to wonder how much longer it can exist given they are losing support?

For heavens sake, are Israeli supporters still on here arguing the moral high ground? Israel has gone right over the top and anyone who isn't a right wing politician can see it. And it would have helped enormously to prevent this is Israeli citizens had not been in the habit of stealing Palestinian land and homes, which we have seen on our news screens here in the west for decades, including recently. Israel is not innocent in this. Not at all. And I say that as someone who decries the massacre by Hamas a few weeks ago.

As Netanyahu said 'if you took away Israeli arms there would be no Israel. If you took away Arab arms there would be no war'.

And yet people keep telling me Islam is a religion on peace?

How can you bring up children to want to wipe another group of people from the face of the earth

You have to assume Hamas knew what would happen when they entered Israel with the intention of killing civilians, not even pretending to be going for military targets. Israel would inevitably respond and the anger at the brutality of the attack meant that the response would be very violent. What were Hamas trying to do, get Gaza destroyed?

This.

This thread is about Israel not existing, not many agree with that.

SinnerBoy · 28/10/2023 09:55

Israel isn't going anywhere, it won't be destroyed. Who would want it? Nobody sane.

And no, I don't support what they are doing. They've already killed more Palestinian children than there were victims of all ages of their own

Shrewsbury247 · 28/10/2023 09:55

I find the idea that the hundreds of thousands across the world protesting at the genocide taking place before our eyes are purple haired Twitter users, absolutely laughable!
The world has changed, people see the injustice, the flouting of international law, the wreckless disregard for Palestinian lives.
This time we can’t say we didn’t know!!

I think they just left Hamas to it, mostly the iron dome was doing a good job or protecting Israelis. Theres no need to try to remove them if they are just terrorising their own people and a random annoyance to you. The blockade was designed to contain Hamas. Why attack a HQ when you think the threat is containable without bombing a hospital or having to put boots on the ground in an area you haven’t occupied for nearly 20years. It would be seen a provocation.

My point was the Israeli government would presumably have tried to prevent the attacks if they knew an attack was imminent. Since they did not it is difficult to believe they have sufficient knowledge of Hamas to determine where their secret hidden underground base is.

EDIT: are you suggesting Israel just let October 7 happen? I’m no supporter of Israel but that seems a little unlikely.

TwilightSkies · 28/10/2023 08:38

If Israel didn’t exist how would the defence industry rip off the American taxpayer to extent that it does. Conflict is needed for that industry to flourish.

Exactly!

Also, where are all the videos of Israeli’s being attacked/bombed? I haven’t seen a single one.

Where are the videos of Israelis being attacked? Are you trying to say nothing happened on the 7th October? Just like the Holocaust never happened perhaps?

SinnerBoy · 28/10/2023 09:58

The UK abstained because the draft resolution didn't include condemnation of the Hamas attack. Lots of other countries abstained for the same reason.

The US and UK have a blanket policy of not voting yes to any resolution against Israel. The UK has abstained before. There are quite a few small African and South Pacific nations, dependent on American aid, which always vote as America tells them to.

It was, in any case, a non-binding (ie meaningless) resolution.

It’s not relevant to the horrific terrorism by hamas but as an aside most Palestinians today have no connection to the 700,000 or so who were displaced in 1948. I think about 14 million or so worldwide now claim to be Palestinian, after only 75 years ….really? Many moved from Arab countries into the area for work and identified as Palestinians. It’s a bit more complicated than hamas would like to make people believe.

FromEden · 28/10/2023 10:01

No, the land grabs did actually happen I’m afraid.

why did you feel the need to use the phrase "greedy hands" though, given the clearly anti semitic connotations? I highly doubt you're of Jewish descent tbh. None of the Jews I know would use such language.

People in here are like "Jewish people are greedy, dishonest people who control the world's governments and banks behind the scenes, stop calling me an anti Semite, I'm only against Israel!!" And I'm called the ignorant one 🙄 you do realise it's possible to criticise Israel and their actions without resorting to anti semitic tropes, right?

There are still 200 hostages being held in Gaza, several of them British. The Israelis have asked for the area to be cleared so they can rescue these people, who have done nothing at all wrong. As PP have commented, you don’t seem to think that the DRC or CHina or Burma should be eliminated for attacking minorities but you think Israel should disappear for trying to protect and rescue its own and respond to a massacre as brutal as 9/11.

why do you think you hold that belief? Do Jewish people matter less? Or do their behaviour require harsher treatment than the massacres we see in Yemen, Syria, China etc etc?

try thinking it through like a big girl.

Apologies, that was in reply to @Fleetingmoments. Guess I accidentally quoted you, sorry

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 28/10/2023 10:08

I agree that talking about Jewish people "with greedy hands" is antisemitic and racist. Not on at all. That should be deleted.

ExtraOnions · 28/10/2023 10:08

The security forces in Israel seem to know where all the Hamas bases and tunnels are … yet didn’t know about the massive planned attack.

i don’t think they know where the Hamas bases are, I just think they are blanket bombing areas hoping to get lucky …with innocent people being treated as collateral.

It wrong to do that - if you have proper intelligence you can target attacks, but this mass boming is bordering on “war crime” territory

Ignorance is bliss. Try looking at the plentiful video footage from October 7th.
