Conflict in the Middle East

To think Israel won't exist much longer?

Support in the west is declining, and when Israel doesn't have weapons and defense funding they won't be able to defend against their neighbouring countries on their own. AIBU to wonder how much longer it can exist given they are losing support?

I expect it’s because mass bombing of trapped women and children needs a separate board on a site primarily designed for mothers to share their thoughts. Why do Israelis insist on treating Palestinian's as lesser beings? It’s an unthinkable and unacceptable way to behave and has been for a very long time.

is there a "conflict in Europe" board? If not, why not? Why are people so keen to have an entire board designed fo criticise a nation responding to a terror attack as huge and far reaching as 9-11? Why are people so keen to support a terrorist regime? Useful idiots, for sure.

I'm sure there was a board for Ukraine? Every other thread at the time was about the conflict.
Why are people like you so keen not to discuss this "nation responding to a terror attack?". Because it's much easier to ignore the fact that Israel is a state which has constantly deprived the Palestinians of human rights, committed murder, torture, rape in the name of the "safety" of that state and is now committing "textbook genocide" and multiple civil organizations are calling for it to be tried for war crimes against civilians.

intriguing that people are utterly obsessed with the military tactics and strategy in removing Hamas and yet don't give a shit about the
many many other world conflicts around the world. What separates them? Why could that be? Why the intense hatred for Israel (Jews)?
Jews don't count, as David Baddiel's book title states.

happyl · 02/11/2023 08:50

and @feralunderclass and others clearly don't have any history or
knowledge of the region when they continually pile in saying that Israel is the aggressor. fgs, do some reading

There are some posters here who are utterly obsessed with any criticism of a government's warfare policy being synonymous with "a hatred of Jews" or "Jew haters". It just sounds like a lazy attempt now to deflect, close discussion and prevent criticism or outrage towards severe violations of human rights. Please report any posts you suspect are antisemitic but stop flinging the "Jew hatred" accusation.

Zzizzisnotzeproblem · 02/11/2023 08:54

Military tactics that involve bombing trapped civilian populations aren’t admirable or acceptable in any way. It is possible for most people to hate your actions without hating your religion or race.

Parkingt111 · 02/11/2023 09:07

@happyl if you are Israeli then I appreciate it can't be nice to come on here and see people criticising your country
You must remember that this is not a criticism of Jewish people or Israeli citizens
This is the criticism of the actions of the Israeli government who consider themselves a 'democracy' yet are acting far from it and we will continue to highlight this

Parkingt111 · 02/11/2023 09:16

Israeli use of white phosphorus
I'm pretty sure it was someone on here or another thread who was trying to convince us that white phosphorus was not used because her DH had analysed the photos and come to that conclusion
Well if you are still on here then please show him this

So why is antisemitic hate crime up 1350% since the conflict escalated? Why have Jewish children in London who have zero to do with it had their education disrupted? Why are Jewish people, some of whom are very pro Palestinian and have never even set foot in Israel, fearful? Feeling isolated?

Antisemitic hate crimes in London up 1,350%, Met police say | Hate crime | The Guardian

Israel-Hamas war sees hate crimes increase across UK, with Islamophobic offences in capital rising by 140%

Because unfortunately there are many racist idiots who fail to make that distinction, racists generally are not always the brightest of people and we should all strongly condemn all forms of anti semitism

The same happened to many muslims after 9/11
Also racist idiots
I say this as someone who has been on the recieving end of many unfortunate incidents of Islamophobia
It was only a few months ago that I was called a terrorist in a asda parking lot so its not something that I expect to never encounter again either

Unfortunately there are always repercussions for people on the ground based on them belonging to the same group as the 'perpetrators' . Muslims are also facing severe repercussions, I think at least 4 Muslims have been stabbed to death now (one a young child) in the West and the motive was linked to the conflict. During COVID the attacks on East Asians in the UK became very aggressive and hostile, there were reports across student unions that many university students were afraid to leave their accommodation.

Tatumm · 02/11/2023 09:59

Sorry to hear you’ve been on the receiving end @Parkingt111 - it’s awful. Muslims also are struggling and I have a lot of sympathy there too. Muslim refugees who have fled war zones are simultaneously dealing with the trauma of re-exposure to images on the news of the horrors of war.

But the problem seems wider than a minority of dim racists. I have seen examples on this board, where people say ‘Jewish’ when they should make the effort to use more accurate language. Words matter.

I agree
Words do matter
I think it's our collective responsibility to call out people who do this regardless of our stance on the war

Awaiting further confirmation from the Israeli side but the guardian has reported that Bahrain has cut all economic ties with Israel dua to what it sees as a breach of humanitarian law

Lets hope more and more see this ‘war’ for what it really is.

Hamas, Iran and Putin are achieving exactly what they wanted to then.

Lucky for them it only comes at the cost of thousands of innocent lives in Israel and Gaza, but none of them give a fuck about that

It's highly likely that Hamas would have wanted this
I'm pretty sure they weren't thrilled that Arab countries were normalising relationships with Israel
But again as you say at what cost?
The leaders play politics and the civilians pay the price

I agree 100%. It is heartbreaking and appalling. Unbearable.

Saudi Arabia was about to normalise relations with Israel too and Iran/Hamas could not allow that. Hence the atrocities of Oct 7th and they knew exactly What would happen.

They don't give a fuck who dies, Palestinians, Israelis, anyone else who happens to be there. In fact they celebrate deaths on both sides - Israelis because they want them all dead, Palestinians because it adds to the "body count" for propaganda.

Real human beings, mothers, fathers, children, who just want to live their lives being treated as fucking playthings by evil men in power. I can't bear it. So many lives destroyed forever

Fuck politics

Parkingt111 · 02/11/2023 18:35

It absolutely is
Meanwhile children in Gaza are drinking sea water and the UN have said there could be a risk of genocide
The amount of times we have been shot down or called hysterical for using that word that makes alot of people very uncomfortable but unfortunately this is what it has come to
There needs to be a ceasefire and more aid coming in

Hassan Nasrallah (leader of Hezbollah) is giving his first speech since 7th October, tomorrow.

Looks like Hezbollah's primary objective at the moment is to keep the IDF busy at the border but many are waiting to see if Nasrallah declares war on Israel. This will be a significant escalation and Hezbollah have a lot more fire power than Hamas.

I'm desperate for Israel to stop bombing Gaza but Hezbollah involvement will only add to civilian suffering in Israel and Lebanon.

What an absolute shit show.

G-d help us all. this week's Private Eye is terrifying. Qatar, Morocco, iran, Lebanon... I wish some of these power-crazed warmongering fucking psychopaths would just STOP. Enough already. Let people live. Let it be. No one fucking benefits from war except for the men at the top.

It’s a reminder of why the concept of Messiah and the prayer for peace originated in that region isn’t it. Peace at the junction of continents, in a devastating irony, has only ever been achieved by the strongman at the top. So many peoples, so many cultures, so many constant conflicts.
