To think Israel won't exist much longer?

sergeantsalt · 28/10/2023 07:56

Support in the west is declining, and when Israel doesn't have weapons and defense funding they won't be able to defend against their neighbouring countries on their own. AIBU to wonder how much longer it can exist given they are losing support?

@FlutterbyWhiskers
You've now said that the Jewish people have gone from being abused to being the abuser, and then said the Jewish community are committing genocide. I'd call that doubling down on your extreme anti-semitic views

Israel is a beacon of hope, whose success and prosperity in every sphere of human and economic flourishing stands as a rebuke to the theocratic and authoritarian barbarism of the states that surround it. Palestinians could have made peace and had a state at any time since 1948, but they didn’t because their leaders hate Jews more than they love their own people.
Prove me wrong without descending into lies and vulgar antisemitism. Tell me why you care about Palestinians and not the actual genocide of Muslims in China, or ethnic cleansing of Rohingya in Myanmar- if you’re this angry about Palestine you must be incandescent about those other, actual, examples.
Thuggish crowds March in our streets like it’s the 1930s - and for a change the Nazi allusion is fitting and not hyperbolic. Ghoulish pornographers of death hold up dead babies (oh, but not Jewish babies - they don’t count!) to revive ancient blood libels. Hate dominates our discourse because it’s easy to shout down dissenters from a moral high ground based on lies and distortions, whether that’s on social media or in the streets.
Israel will prevail because it has to, and the world will continue to be a better place because it exists.

I agree
Ceasefire and a solution
Nobody should be adding fuel to the fire of war
There will be losses on both sides
There has been enough
Hostages released and stop the bombing on both sides
And stop those crazed settlers in the west bank too

@FlutterbyWhiskers I know antisemitism when I see it, so yes, I very much do get to call it out when I see it. Because, as you point out, I'm one of (and I quote) "the Jewish"

I didn't twist any words. I repeated exactly what you said. Would you like a chance to clarify what you meant and apologise for apparently inadvertently making anti-semitic comments?

briggs1 · 28/10/2023 11:44

Ah so as usual we have distracted ourselves from the situation in Gaza. Nicely done.

Yes, let's just forget October 7th even happened. The amount of times I've seen

"I don't condone Hamas, BUT.."

Don't twist my words, please. Did I say " Let's forget the 07/10?", no! Hamas was not just magically born out of nowhere. Fact.
The number of times I have seen " But look what Hamas did" to justify the systematic killing of Palestinians civilians is staggering. An eye for an eye and the world goes blind , according to Gandhi. How many must die before you are satisfied that revenge has been done?

I haven't once said I don't sympathise with the Palestinians.

You haven't spoken the truth, you have made anti-semitic comments. If that's your truth, that's quite problematic.

Doric · 28/10/2023 11:48

It’s Gaza that will not exist.

Pro-Israelis need not worry. Ultimately many more Palestinians will die than Israelis.

And the defence seems to be that the Israelis died by being individually attacked and cruelly murdered on the ground by Hamas, rather than having a nice civilised bomb dropped on their heads by the Israeli forces. In my eyes, all lives are equal and it is all horrific.

It's LITERALLY about no such thing, nor is that the thread title. It's about whether Israel will exist, not whether it should.

And obviously it will continue to exist, because it's got US backing and nuclear weapons.

No, the thread title asks if Israel WILL continue to exist. Nothing about whether it SHOULD continue to exist.

You are a horrific racist

To think Israel won't exist much longer?
InvisibleDuck · 28/10/2023 11:52

I certainly hope Israel doesn't stop existing.

I'm not blind to what the Israeli government has done in Palestine over the years. I'd always hoped for a two-state solution and used to be fervently pro-Palestine.

What happened on October 7th truly sickened me. If Hamas had attacked military targets in Israel, they might have had some legitimacy. But killing children in barbaric ways, raping women, kidnapping elderly and disabled people? And filming it all, posting their murders to the victims' Facebook pages? It's disgusting. It's inexcusable. I read about the footage the journalists saw of the atrocities and I wish I hadn't. Lots of people are calling them inhuman - but they are human. Humans are capable of that kind of depravity and that's what makes it so horrifying.

It's not Israel who should be losing support. Innocent people dying in bombings is tragic. Of course it is. What Hamas did went so far beyond that. I wouldn't want them as my neighbours! Doing nothing in response wasn't an option.

Out of curiosity, are you going to put up the names and faces of the Gaza government who have so signally failed to protect their innocent children?

Have left them without bomb shelters, have concentrated on offensive rather than defensive arms, have sited their rocket launchers near schools? Have sent in their soldiers with orders to kill old people and babies in the certain knowledge that this will infuriate their much better armed neighbours?

Is the Gazan government begging Egypt to at least take the children in as refugees? Or are they leaving these kids in Gaza to be blown apart - because if enough of them die, it might force a ceasefire?

What Gazan kids really deserve is a better government. If you care for the Palestinians, that’s what you need to be working towards.

What kind of government can one really have in an occupied territory. Who do you think controls the borders (land, sea and air)? The Gazans have few rights and no power and are kept just on the edge of survival. Israel limits what can come in. There is no freedom of movement. One can not amass wealth or power in the degree required to take over and set up a government. When you strip people of their freedom, their autonomy, their rights, and in many cases even their basic needs - you have very angry, sad, and disempowered people. If Hamas was your only possible hope to maybe someday having freedom - what do they do? Even humanitarian aid going into Gaza from other countries is controlled and limited by Israel, so is the amount of water they can have, and they have not been allowed to build infrastructures that would improve their lives. Israel has more power and control over Gaza than Hamas does. Have you seen prison riots? When those held captive try to rise up and overthrow their captors, there is no way to do that without violence. Do you think A Gazan can just say to Israel, please let me out of Gaza and they will walk free?

I truly don't your reluctance or refusal to acknowledge Palestinians as people, as humans with as much worth and value as an Israeli life - and you once again deflect by changing the topic. It is so unfathomable to me that there is such sorrow for Israel but you look at Palestinian children and infants and see them as having had the autonomy to make other choices but that they chose death - to you their deaths are not even something you would speak against because you think they should have made different choices so you are indifferent to their death, pain and suffering.

It is a very cultish view. The refusal to see any other perspective other than what your leader has told you to think and say. To abandon critical thinking and fact and history - many pro-Israeli's on here sound very similar to those who are pro Hamas. A complete refusal to see any other perspective than we are right, they are wrong, we have done nothing wrong, they need to die. Israelis or Jews refusing to speak up against the atrocities in Palestine is no different from anyone not acknowledging the atrocities in Israel.
