Conflict in the Middle East

To think Israel won't exist much longer?

sergeantsalt · 28/10/2023 07:56

Support in the west is declining, and when Israel doesn't have weapons and defense funding they won't be able to defend against their neighbouring countries on their own. AIBU to wonder how much longer it can exist given they are losing support?

There is no justification for the depraved barbarity by Hamas on October 7th

The rest of your post is very off

RudsyFarmer · 28/10/2023 11:27

I don’t think the West will exist much longer as we are all linked through colonialism. So accept that by doing away with Israel you are happy to also do away with America, the UK and much of Europe.

I stand by this. CEASEFIRE. there has been enough bloodshed on both sides.

I couldn't agree more and anyone who wants more and more bombing is a cold-hearted psychopath.

@FlutterbyWhiskers
"the Jewish people have gone from being the abused to being the abuser."

Might want to think about what you've just said there. You're not making yourself look very good.

snickersandmarsandbounty · 28/10/2023 11:29

I really don’t think Isreal will continue as we know it, it has battled and fought its boundaries since it was formed. It is simply not sustainable, US is on a downward trajectory and without its funding in the long term everything will collapse.
That is why it’s imperative that a resolution can be found through peaceful methods

Defiantjazz · 28/10/2023 11:29

Started way further back than 1948

I’m not sure it did tbh.
There was certainly conflict following the increased migration of Jews to the region following WW2 (hence the proposed partition) and Zionism was founded towards the end of the nineteenth century. Beyond that..what are you thinking of?

briggs1 · 28/10/2023 11:29

And a lot of Jews (myself included) see this @FlutterbyWhiskers

Oooh you're doubling down! Interesting strategy! Really showing your true colours

"The Jewish community"?

That's probably crossed the line. Jewish posters here and in the real world have criticised the Israeli response. Jewish people, like any other group, have a range of beliefs and opinions.

SomeCatFromJapan · 28/10/2023 11:32

*Hamas did not happen in a vacuum. What they did on Oct 7th was atrocious, no denying. None of this would have happened if the world had stopped Israel's land grabbing from the start, instead of being afraid of being called an anti semite.

The problem is Israel and the Jewish are quick to hide behind the holocaust and accusations of anti semitism when they are called out for their atrocities. So the world now sits and watches as Israel commits a genocide, the Jewish people have gone from being the abused to being the abuser.

This is now part of their history. We have to teach this to our children.*

This is a shitshow of a post.

Yet again qualifying a mass terrorist atrocity. What they did was atrocious BUT. There shouldn't be a but for the torture and slaugher of civilians.

It is then followed by an anti-Semitic statement, conflating Israel with all Jewish people and making an offensive claim about the Holocaust.

The scary thing is that people feel it's perfectly okay to say this out loud.

So you've gone from some Jewish ancestry to being Jewish. I don't believe you for a second.

Parkingt111 · 28/10/2023 11:33

Can we please distinguish between the Israeli government and the Israeli citizens

Likewise between Hamas and the Gazan citizens

It is not fair to Tar everyone under the same brush

Sausagenbacon · 28/10/2023 11:33

The fact is that hamas has good support in Gaza and elsewhere. They have thrived in Gaza. Where in Israel do you see glee at the death of civilian garzans and active street celebrations?
Plus people spitting on the bodies of raped women.

Yeah it's really disgusting and pathetic when no one cares about Palestinian lives. I am glad the world is waking up to Israeli atrocities.

What I find pathetic is people who think that brutality by one side is more justifiable than that of the other side, or that lives lost by one side have less value than those lost by the other.

People like you, who clearly have taken a side in this tragic conflict, are as much a part of the problem as those who are ordering or carrying out the violence.

What is so wrong with you that you are incapable of seeing the value in all human life and the utter futility of armed conflict?

I find this quote anti-Semitic @mumsnet.

But you thought you'd slip in a quick antisemitism anyway.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 28/10/2023 11:37

I am interested on these threads what people want to happen. Israel obvs isn’t going to disappear but people rightly feel outraged at what’s happening currently.

I have just watched settlers illegally demolishing Palestinian homes on the West Bank- literally happening today right now. How is that possibly right too?

Today- I would like to see an immediate ceasefire as a basic first step. Hamas to return the hostages immediately. And then serious proper negotiations on the establishment of a proper 2 state solution . Split the country fairly in half? Establish a proper Palestinian state. Pre 1967 boundaries too?

What else? How do you get rid of Hamas without violence? How did the good Friday agreement persuade the IRA to down weapons & give up violence?
