Conflict in the Middle East

To think Israel won't exist much longer?

sergeantsalt · 28/10/2023 07:56

Support in the west is declining, and when Israel doesn't have weapons and defense funding they won't be able to defend against their neighbouring countries on their own. AIBU to wonder how much longer it can exist given they are losing support?

Right, if I post videos from Facebook of rocket attacks in Israel this week, will anyone actually believe that Hamas are still attacking Israel or will I have wasted my time?

No one is surely doubting that Hamas are still firing rockets? One got through the iron curtain and hit an apartment block in Tel Aviv yesterday. Anyone denying Hamas is not still attacking is not following the conflict and misinformed.

JustAMinutePleass · 28/10/2023 11:09

Israel needs to be divided into 3 states. Political nightmare for Israel because the minute it happens Palestine will get all of the support and money from it’s neighbouring countries and Israel will need to rely even more on the USA.

What do you think happens when you bomb the Palestinian children - they are being torn limb from limb - no doubt some have also lost their heads. Many are burning alive in the fires and being crushed or smothered in the rubble.

Why is only the horrible death and suffering of some children a concern to you. Do you not think that Palestinian children can feel pain or suffer or experience trauma? That their siblings, parents, and extended family who watch them die horrible deaths feel nothing - that they are not human like Israeli children and parents? That they don't have all the same emotions? That they don't grieve?

Palestinian children have been dying for decades - now thousands are dying. I find it shocking when people minimize that and think that the only deaths that matter are the Israeli ones. That they are the only ones in this who have been brutalized and traumatized and tormented and who feel pain or sorry or suffering or grief.

Take what happened in Israel and magnify it many many times over - that is what has happened and is happening in Palestine.

I do not think posters of Israeli children should be ripped down but I think what should be done is put up the names and faces of the thousands of Palestinian children who are being blown apart, burnt alive, being crushed, left to smother and die. I wonder if seeing names and faces would help humanize the Palestinians for those who only care about Israeli lives and children.

Out of curiosity, are you going to put up the names and faces of the Gaza government who have so signally failed to protect their innocent children?

Have left them without bomb shelters, have concentrated on offensive rather than defensive arms, have sited their rocket launchers near schools? Have sent in their soldiers with orders to kill old people and babies in the certain knowledge that this will infuriate their much better armed neighbours?

Is the Gazan government begging Egypt to at least take the children in as refugees? Or are they leaving these kids in Gaza to be blown apart - because if enough of them die, it might force a ceasefire?

What Gazan kids really deserve is a better government. If you care for the Palestinians, that’s what you need to be working towards.

Well, to be precise, more Palestinians have died at the hands of Israel than Israelis at the end of Palestinians over nearly 80 years. The numbers are widely available.

Hamas committed an isis style terrorist attack on Israeli civilians. Women and children were raped and beheaded and burnt alive. A child was ripped from their mother's womb and beheaded. This is what you are defending with your whataboutery. Nice

These horrific crimes are exactly the same as those committed against Palestinian refugees in Lebanon 40 years ago. The criminal, murdering terrorists on that occasion were Israeli-backed militia. The words used to describe the murder of the woman and her unborn baby at the time were almost identical.

Do you accept the barbaric atrocities on October 7th happened?

I've reported that sick Post.

No, I mean videos of rocket attacks in Israel this week. Just like I said. I have on purpose not posted any of the sickening photos or videos on Mumsnet. It feels disrespectful to the victims to show them. The videos I'd post are ones of the iron dome in action so you can see how many rockets are being fired and one of a house being hit but everyone narrowly surviving. Just to show it's happening

The fact is that hamas has good support in Gaza and elsewhere. They have thrived in Gaza. Where in Israel do you see glee at the death of civilian garzans and active street celebrations?

I agree, and few are willing to confront this reality. On the streets on the uk there have been people denying Hamas took hostages, ripping down posters, vandalism of Jewish schools.
I saw posts from a journalist who attended a pro Palestine March in Birmingham. He asked a woman about her sign and she stated Hamas were right to attack Israel and then refused to talk further. He spoke to other people that were of the view that Hamas did not commit any murders and just bulldozed the fence. That for me, is supporting Hamas I’m afraid.

on bbc they attended a march in Bradford and a man was asked about whether the Hamas attacks were justified. He refused to comment.

itv interviewed that lady about Islamophobia, and then had to apologise after videos of her smiling and gleeful about the October 7 attacks were found. She had also been on Iranian tv.

elsewhere a March in Australia had protestors yelling ‘gas the Jews’. In nyc a protest had a person holding up a swastika on a phone and others mocking dead Israelis.

I don’t get why there’s such denial. There are horrible terrorist supporting people out there. Whether it’s because they’ve been radicalised or are just ill informed I don’t know. But there are out there and I’m not sure it’s just the odd individual anymore.

WalkingThroughTreacle · 28/10/2023 11:12

you mean like the 40 fake babies being "beheaded"?

It's so sad, but so unsurprising, that some people have latched onto that one piece of data. Does it really matter if the number of babies murdered, or the nature of their death, was misreported? It's pathetic that some people would use that to try and minimise the entirety of the brutal slaughter of over 1000 innocent human beings.

Do you accept the barbaric atrocities on October 7th happened?

I do. But blaming Hamas for the atrocities currently being visited upon innocent Palestinian women and children by the Israeli government does not wash with me.

I don't have purple hair, Palestinian flags or a twitter account. I never watch TikTok either. What I do have is enough knowledge to understand that we are witnessing now is not something that started on 07/10/23 but in 1948, i.e. the systematic oppression of the Palestinian people.

My grandfather fought against both the arabs and the British in Palestine in the 1930s. The conflict had been going on for decades even at that point. GF was shot and killed in 1947.

All of those incidents are perfectly acceptable to some, who say anybody supporting Israel is sick.

briggs1 · 28/10/2023 11:15

Yeah it's really disgusting and pathetic when no one cares about Palestinian lives. I am glad the world is waking up to Israeli atrocities.

The thing is though the bombs are not going to make this support go away, the opposite.

Armenians in Nagorny Karabakh, just a few weeks ago.

That's more complicated that many people realise. The Azeris are also using starvation as a tactic.

But... the haven't told the Armenians to leave, they've offered them Azeri citizenship. Nagorno Karabakh is not and never has been part of Armenia. There was a significant Armenian minority and, with Russian support, they annexed it and drove the Azeris out.

God, perhaps are shite, aren't they?

Right so October 7th didn't happen in a vacuum, but everything Israel has ever done did?
