Justifying the rape of women

Something I keep coming back to.. for the people whose sympathies lie with the Palestinians and think an eye for an eye and that Hamas have been pushed to act the way they have, how do you justify the brutal rape of women by Hamas?

How do they justify bombing the hospital in Gaza? Oh I forgot they deny it.

Alcemeg · 26/10/2023 15:48

Yes, it's very distressing to see the mutual hatred.

Maybe part of the problem is that internet logarithms are very clever at predicting what we might want to watch next. It's definitely war by social media, on top of everything else, and it's possible to get trapped in an echo chamber.

Honestly, I don't know what to make of the posters being taken down in London. I'm not sure what purpose they serve being posted around Tube stations anyway, it's not like we're going to bump into one of the hostages at St Pancras Station...? (I wish it was so simple!) I can understand pro-Palestine folk feeling it's just goady. But again, maybe I'm missing something.

Anyway I will step away from the keyboard!!!!!!!

Oh dear God.
I can't believe you've posted this.

The number 40 was the number of dead children (infants/under 2s actually), it was not chosen at random. But you're right, it makes all the difference if we know exactly how many were beheaded. We wouldn't want to accidentally imply that they were all killed with unimaginable savagery, that would be so unfair and inflammatory.

I thought British media outlets have said they are still investigating this? ...

I think the derailment here proves my point. The natural response should surely be how terrible for anyone to do this to another human being, whether the victim be Palestinian or Israeli but some people's response is to question if it even happened. This is what I was referring to when I said about glossing over, which means to avoid considering something which is exactly what you're doing here by questioning if it even happened

I agree, @armchairactivist1 .
Some posts are really just beyond the pale.

Luckydip1 · 26/10/2023 16:06

We also do not know for a fact that there were any beheadings a bit like we don't know for a fact that Israelis bombed the hospital in Gaza.

EsmaCannonball · 26/10/2023 16:09

I guess it's fortunate that the videos were livestreamed or posted by Hamas themselves on the day of the attack. If any manipulation was done, it would have been done by them and I suspect they didn't have room on their motorbikes for tech guys as well as gang-rapists, toddler-torturers and granny-shooters.

Luckydip1 · 26/10/2023 16:10

This thread suggests Palestinians raped Jews when there is no independent proof.

Unless the videos were created and posted by the IDF propaganda machine.

Maireas · 26/10/2023 16:11

I think you need to stop this now, @Luckydip1 because thousands of people are being killed in a terrible conflict which shows no sign of abating. Feelings are running high and there is anguish on both sides, so please respect that
.

The thing is so many of us have gotten very emotional and passionate about something that we have later found out (or are waiting to find out) had or has not happened. I did the same as everyone who got so frustrated and upset... To later then have news channels saying they are still investigating.

So I am waiting for British media outlets to verify certain things now... And that is with both sides.

So far, the British news outlets have said they are still investigating. So there is no point getting upset about something that may not have happened.

armchairactivist1 · 26/10/2023 16:15

@Luckydip1 my thoughts when I see the devastating footage from Gaza is not is this fake? Has this been posted by the Hammas propaganda machine? Can we really believe it? My thoughts are how absolutely heartbreaking and awful this is happening to these poor people. That to me is the right and surely natural response that anyone with any sense of humanity would have

They filmed themselves attempting to behead a still alive South East Asian farm worker by slamming a gardening implement repeatedly into his throat, so, yes, technically that might not be counted as an actual beheading. Their success rate is uncertain. How unfortunate that they were livestreaming all of this. If only they'd waited a few days to show off their handiwork, they could have claimed the Israelis had created the video.

SomeCatFromJapan · 26/10/2023 16:17

@Luckydip1 are you trying to deliberatey upset people? It's not okay.

Did you became passionate about the conflict when the hospital attack happened? Because the hospital is just one more thing that has happened. People are dying every day. Does it matter whether they are in a hospital or at their house ? Whether they’re a baby or a woman or whether they’re a journalist , their family or a teacher?

Noicant · 26/10/2023 16:40

Tbh I found it strange that so many celebrated the murder of Israeli civilians because my first thought was “omg that’s horrific, what kind of monsters do that” second thought “Gaza is going to get flattened those poor people” 3rd thought “why are those dickheads celebrating, Gazans are about to die”.

At which point I concluded that those people celebrating cared for neither Israelis or Gazans but were motivated by other things.

You don’t need to diminish either groups suffering.

Also why tear down posters of missing children, does it matter where they are from, their families are probably trying to raise awareness . Some sick bastard drew hitler moustaches on the pictures of 3yr old twins who are hostages. Just how can you do that and think you are in the right.

The footage has been shown to journalists who have commented on it

There are plenty of posts detailing the atrocities

This minimising is very off.
