This is running on Al Jazeera and others - apparently Israel refused to take back two hostages.

God it’s hard to hear. Heartbreaking

Parkingt111 · 22/11/2023 20:12

I'm not sure if that list is 100% who is part of the deal as the reporter who posted it then went on to post this after a few hours

Hostages
Parkingt111 · 22/11/2023 20:17

According to the same reporter the PM's office mislabelled the list as confirmed instead of possible
I would wait cautiously for verified news in this regard as not to cause further heartbreak for those family members who must have had their hopes raised and now in uncertainty again

Efacsen · 22/11/2023 21:17

Mossad head has received list of names of captives to be released Israeli media

Several Israeli news outlets have reported that Mossad chief David Barnea has received the list while in Qatar finalising the final details of the agreement.

Israeli officials have said the list will not be published and families will not be notified until after their loved ones are released.

So nerve-wracking for the families

Stomacharmeleon · 22/11/2023 21:38

I hope there will be no filming of children being handed over like there was with the elderly ladies. This is not a PR event.

Hopefully. tho we both know it’s quits unlikely.

The children's right to privacy will need to be protected from press intrusion- they are going to be flown from the border crossing to the designated hospitals [with private areas for them] by helicopter so unlikely to be seen at all

Efacsen · 22/11/2023 22:26

Hope this is just teething problems and not anything more serious

No hostages to be released before Friday, says senior Israeli official

A senior Israeli official has said that the planned hostage-for-prisoner swap with Hamas has been delayed until at least Friday.

In a statement, Benjamin Netanyahu’s national security adviser Tzachi Hanegbi said:
The release will begin according to the original agreement between the parties, and not before Friday.

Stomacharmeleon · 22/11/2023 22:57

@Efacsen thing is we know very little of the nuts and bolts and all this may be according to plan.
I probably won't breathe until then mind you :/

Hmm there's disagreement about when the the ceasefire starts, whether the list for tomorrow was handed over etc etc

More fingers-crossed

Stomacharmeleon · 22/11/2023 23:42

@Efacsen I suppose it's only to be expected.

Can someone explain why Isreal had/has imprisoned so many children? What kind of a legal democracy does that? And I find it hard to believe that the thousands of women imprisoned are Hamas members too? Serious question why are 5-5 year olds imprisoned?

Many of them have not even gone through court or had the right to defend themselves. Many have gone through tortures as well so Israel just says that they stabbed someone or tried to kill someone and we have to believe it.

This mornings update

There is “no cause for concern” about the hostage negotiations, a source familiar with the talks has told Israeli newspaper Haaretz. The source said:

The delay does not stem from a breakdown in talks, but rather from the need to resolve administrative matters, which are being addressed.

And

Announcement on beginning of truce could come within hours, Qatar says

Weddingpuzzle · 23/11/2023 07:47

The Palestinian journalists reporting from Gaza seem to have expected the ceasefire to start at midnight last night. The IDF bombed 9 homes in Beit Lahea yesterday and a Palestinian journalist named the families who the homes belonged to and said the army targeted these homes 11 hours before the ceasefire?

So the on the ground messaging from within Gaza (I presume that messaging is coming from Hamas?) was that the ceasefire should have commenced and obviously the journalists are reporting that. I hope they hadn't told the hostages that they were being freed yesterday Sad

I am not sure about the narrative that all Palestinians or Israeli's are radicalised from birth at all. That misunderstands people's ability for critical analysis. Some Palestinians I have seen are asking where are Hamas. Only yesterday I saw on the news a Palestinian family who is still sheltering in Al Shifa and the little kids were waving at the IDF soldiers from the window. A bus full of Palestinians who were being evacuated from the strip were asking Ch4 journalists if they would ever be allowed to return but didn't mention Israel at all. I think it's easy to see it as Arabs versus Israeli's but on the ground, in real life (not SM) it seems much more nuanced. The propaganda war is well and truly in place. Shame the hostages and normal people are being used as tools for hate.

Stomacharmeleon · 23/11/2023 09:04

@3and2ready of course Women can be radicalised and join Hamas there have been lots of female terrorists. That seems a bit naive.
There isn't 'thousands' in detention.
And what's a 5-5 year old?

That’s clearly a typo. 4-5 year olds are amongst the imprisoned too. They were radicalised by Hamas too?

Reports suggest 800-1000 under 18s are imprisoned by Israel every year.

3and2ready · 23/11/2023 09:55

A week or 2 ago there was complete denial on these threads that Israel had imprisoned innocent Palestinians. When there was talk about releasing Israeli hostages, some posters said Israel should releases Palestinian children and women that have been imprisoned falsely and lots of posters completed denied this, stating no such prisoners existed. Few weeks later now we hear children are being released in exchange for the hostages.

Stomacharmeleon · 23/11/2023 09:59

@3and2ready if you look before you post I believe the youngest is 12.
Not that makes it ok but it's not five.

Stomacharmeleon · 23/11/2023 10:05

@3and2ready I don't remember seeing that and as far as I am aware it's pretty common knowledge that there are young people in detention.

I think the issue may have been what to refer to them as.... criminals? Hostages? Have they been tried?

Most of those being released are 16-18 though, 26 women and I think one 14 (although I am not 100%)

I admit 14 years olds should not be in military custody. But the 16-18 would be classed as men not children and it was for a wide range of offences as it is with the women.

Parkingt111 · 23/11/2023 10:17

@Stomacharmeleon a few years ago a 5 year old boy was arrested by the IDF for throwing a stone. The whole thing was recorded and at the time the video went viral and reported on many news channels.
The IDF later said they didn't detain him after the arrest but it caused a huge amount of backlash as you can see in the video the young child is extremely distressed crying surrounded by quite a few soldiers not just one

No. The youngest isn’t 12. That’s what bbc tells you. Maybe the youngest being released is 12, but not the youngest being held. I watched an interview with the journalist who said some as young as 5 were detained. There’s 2 brothers. 4&5. Both detained.
Even 12 is a child. Why was that poor kid imprisoned and now being involved in the exchange.

Yes, I know which video you are referring too. But that’s not the 5 year old I am talking about. There were siblings both dragged off screaming by the idf. The neighbors quoted their ages as 4&5. Absolutely heartless to do that to kids, especially that small.
