This is running on Al Jazeera and others - apparently Israel refused to take back two hostages.

Or a reward as an incentive for anyone who can provide more information on where they are being hidden
They can be given a new identity and a new life elsewhere in the world so nobody can know who it was
Surely there must be more that can be done
Even all the politicians criticise first and then mention hostages as an after thought

Or maybe the rallies in support of Palestine can also ask for the hostages to be released?

Unconfirmed as of yet I think but Hamas has apparently released footage of an elderly hostage shown first very ill but speaking, and then deceased. Source is Gaza Report on X.

Might be Alex Danzig.

From Al Jazeera
''Most recently, it said, one of the captives was moved to a facility’s intensive care unit and when he recovered, he was moved back to “his place of detention”.

''But the captive died due to a series of panic attacks as a result of repeated Israeli bombardment nearby, the Qassam Brigades said. “We will release documents proving this,” the group said.

Is this the same person?

StarbucksSmarterSister · 17/11/2023 18:42

Aryeh Zalmen Zdmanovich, aged 86. Hamas have said he died "of a panic attack" during bombing.

SomeCatFromJapan · 17/11/2023 19:14

Ah yes that's possibly who it is then. The video they (Hamas) released is really unpleasant and odd.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 17/11/2023 19:35

Yes, the poor man looked terribly ill.

Stomacharmeleon · 17/11/2023 19:36

I don't remember when doctors were giving lots of interviews from hospitals them mentioning any hostages where there having treatment?

Hostages
StarbucksSmarterSister · 17/11/2023 19:51

No, they didn't.

But I expect they say what they're told to (or told not to).

The Tanzanian government has confirmed the death of a student taken hostage in Gaza.

Clemence Felix Mtenga was one of two Tanzanians taken by Hamas on 7 October. It is unclear how the 22-year-old died.

In a statement confirming his death, the country's foreign ministry say it is in touch with Israel over the other Tanzanian hostage, Joshua Mollel.

Mtenga's family has been informed, it said, adding that officials were liaising with the Israeli government to send his body home.

Mtenga had only landed in Israel in September and was due to study there for 11 months.

May his memory be blessed

Stomacharmeleon · 18/11/2023 00:05

@Trulywonderful that's very sad.

ScrollingLeaves · 19/11/2023 01:31

It is very, very sad.
What I would like to know us how did he die if he was a hostage? Was he murdered by Hamas after being a hostage? Did he get bombed? Who has his body and where was it found?

More rumours of imminent hostage release/5 day humanitarian ceasefire in the Washington Post - Netanyahu immediately denied it was true

Parkingt111 · 19/11/2023 08:33

Israeli PM, Benjamin Netanyahu, said on Saturday evening that he rejected what he described as “increasingly heavy pressure” from the international community, including some in the US, saying Israel refused to agree to a “full ceasefire”. He said: “Many people around the world demanded that we not enter the Gaza Strip – we did so... They warned us not to enter [Al-Shifa hospital] even though it served as a central terrorist base for Hamas – we did so. They pressured us to agree to a full ceasefire – we refused. And I have made it clear: we will only agree to a temporary ceasefire and only in exchange for the return of our hostages.”

So he has made it clear
That even if the hostages are released there will not be a ceasefire
And when did he say it? After increased pressure he finally agreed to meet with the families of the hostages who had completed a remarkable 5 day march

Parkingt111 · 19/11/2023 09:02

@ScrollingLeaves the article says this. In regards to the other questions I don't believe this information has been disclosed. Most likely for security reasons aswell as preserving the dignity of the deceased and maybe his family's requests.

ScrollingLeaves · 19/11/2023 10:12

Thank you Parking. The article is blank at my end, but never mind.

I can see how important security and privacy is.

My main concern is that if the hostages are in the tunnels and bunkers being bombed by Israel, the hostages could get bombed too.

ScrollingLeaves · 19/11/2023 10:23

Have seen it know, thank you.

A more positive if contradictory press announcement from Qatar

''The two main takeaways from the press conference are that basically the Qataris are saying that a deal is imminent. It no longer boils down to the sticking points in the past over the number of hostages and also the extended ceasefire, to pave the way for the hostage release to take place. It now just boils down to some very logistical issues that they need to pin down in the upcoming days''

Al Jazeera.

The list in Haaretz says he was killed on October the seventh at kibbutz Nir Oz, which is confusing. Maybe they thought he was kidnapped and have only just identified his body? Or maybe it's just wrong.

I just noticed that one of the dead on the list (not a hostage) was a refugee from Darfur who had lived in Israel for the last 15 years. That seems especially sad.

Parkingt111 · 19/11/2023 17:50

@StarbucksSmarterSister what you are saying could be possible but I don't actually know

This is a quote from “Israel Hyom”.

Tanzania confirms death of student abducted by Hamas
Twenty-two-year-old Clemence Felix Mtenga was abducted by Hamas along with fellow Tanzanian 21-year-old Joshua Loitu Mollel.
By i24NEWS and ILH Staff Published on 11-19-2023 11:18 Last modified: 11-19-2023 11:30”

“Tanzania has announced the death of one of two nationals taken hostage by Hamas during the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel.

The Israeli government had named two students from Tanzania – 22-year-old Clemence Felix Mtenga and 21-year-old Joshua Loitu Mollel – among some 240 taken to the Gaza Strip.

"It's with great sadness we confirm the death of Clemence Felix Mtenga," a statement by Tanzania's Foreign Ministry said late Friday. It did not say how Mtenga died.

We would also like to inform the public that Joshua is still missing as we continue to follow his whereabouts," the statement said.

Israel has vowed to eradicate the Hamas terror organization whose terrorists killed 1,400 Israelis, most of them civilian, and took about 250 hostage.

Some reports said Mtenga was never kidnapped, but that his body was found in a town near Gaza and was identified after a month by forensics.”

This is from The Times of Israel:
Tanzania announces death of citizen thought to have been among hostages in Gaza17 Nov 2023, 11:27 pm

“Tanzania’s foreign ministry announces the death of Clemence Felix Mtenga, a 22-year-old citizen who was thought to have been among the hostages in Gaza.
Mtenga was in Israel as part of a modern agriculture training program in the Gaza border town of Nir Oz. He and fellow Tanzanian national Joshua Luito Molal have been unaccounted for since the October 7.

The foreign ministry statement does not provide any details regarding Mtenga’s death but says it is in contact with Israeli authorities about bringing his body back to Tanzania for burial.

Mtenga and Molal were among of roughly 260 young Tanzanians in Israel as part of the collaborative government program between the two countries.
https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/tanzania-announces-death-of-citizen-thought-to-have-been-among-hostages-in-gaza/

It seems the news comes from Tanzania rather than Israel and even the Israeli newspapers do not know much:

Israel Hypm says, “some reports say Mtenga was never kidnapped, but that his body was found near a town near Gaza and was identified after a month by forensics”

The Times of Israel only says “he was thought to have been among the hostages in Gaza.”

The two hostages in this video have apparently been identified as Thai and Nepali.

I've spared the poster's blushes but thought this denial of the video was particularly inventive.

Oh yes but that was the best.

Not fake as such, but little Owen Jones confidently declared that Hamas were obviously taking the hostages they'd just tortured/mutilated/killed for "medical treatment".
