This is running on Al Jazeera and others - apparently Israel refused to take back two hostages.

Another Israeli believed to have been held hostage has now just been identified as dead after all. She was a well known peace activist.

https://www.womenwagepeace.org.il/en/vivian-silver-a-peace-activist-is-missing/

Such an awful shame

In an article I was reading about her earlier it mentioned that some people will never be identified - what a torment for their relatives forever

Stomacharmeleon · 14/11/2023 07:44

It shows the extent of the depravity when Israel is still struggle to identify its dead. This is what makes me angry when posters on here say 'legitimate struggle' and 'freedom fighters' as if the deaths on 7/10 are more palatable because they were Israelis.

We should see them so they not just 'hostages' or 'presumed dead' She was a
Peace activist not in any way a legitimate target.

Hostages
Trulywonderful · 14/11/2023 08:24

Yes a fair few taken or killed seem to have been known peace activists with searchable history as such. It explains why some of them were living along that border. It was because of the work they were doing and help they were giving to Gazens. Plus obviously the kids that were killed and taken from the peace festival

It is like Hamas doesn't what people that promote peace and two state solution about. Go figure that........

Stomacharmeleon · 14/11/2023 09:40

@Motorina what you all seem to be forgetting when you say Netanyahu blocks hostages being released is that the articles confirm it is always 'some' and he has always said it would have to be all of them.

Trulywonderful · 14/11/2023 09:48

From memory the number of hostages in return for a ceasefire has been going up. Hasn't it? Else the number has been going up over time for various other things Hamas has been demanding before returning hostages. To be honest I have lost track. Hamas has made so many demands in return for hostages now. Hopefully by holding out most will get a good outcome. Though I seriously doubt Hamas still has more than half the hostages alive or in a state they are willing for the rest of the world to see/hear about. Miracles could happen though.

This is a lovely testament to Vivian Silver. The Gazan people have lost a great friend and ally in her.

Isreal’s military has confirmed the death of Noa Marciano, a soldier seen yesterday in a hostage video posted by Hamas.

She does sound amazing.

Her work was to "rehumanize Gazans" .

How utterly tragic that that work needed to happen.

What has gone wrong in Israel?

Why such a lack of humanity?

EsmaCannonball · 14/11/2023 16:39

I don't think the Palestinians brutally murdering someone who was trying to help them is a sign of something being wrong with Israel.

I also think it's seriously fishy that one of the few Israelis to be seen in a hostage video has supposedly died in a bombing raid. How convenient that Hamas could cut to footage of her alive and then footage of her dead. Is there anyone who doesn't think that Hamas just murdered the poor teenager?

Xenia · 14/11/2023 16:50

I wouldn't believe a word Hamas says about anything. I heard about the peace activist on radio 4 not long after Hamas took hostages, on radio 4 woman's hour - she sounded a wonderful woman. I am so sorry she is dead.

Had I been in Israel's shoes at the start I would not have traded lots of Hamas terrorists for a few Israelis or had cease fires to allow Hamas to regroup. Israel had very little choice but to press on.

As for other hostages - they can be very valuable so I doubt Hamas will be deliberately killing many of those left. Also sometimes they are traded in the middle east - between all kinds of groups for money so it is possible that will happen although perhaps not given the unique dreadful circumstances in which they were taken. I hope as many as possible can come back safely. One family said their father set up the kibbutz in about 1930 and had been committed to peace and sharing everything since then - lots of members of the family had been killed or taken.

Stomacharmeleon · 14/11/2023 17:02

That's why it's important we talk about the hostages as people and not just entity. Keep them in the public eye as they seem to be largely forgotten about. It's seems to be ok to tear their pictures down.

@EnoughIsay how on a thread about the taking of hostages could you ask what has gone wrong with Israel? What an insensitive thing to say! Where is the humanity of Hamas.... actually don't bother.

SomeCatFromJapan · 14/11/2023 17:20

I unfortunately saw footage of her no longer alive. There is no dust or debris on her at all, she's clean, just has a severe head injury.

EsmaCannonball · 14/11/2023 18:18

Some strategists have argued that the sheer amount of hostages taken may make the Israeli ones expendable. Foreign and dual nationals have value but the number of Israelis makes them vulnerable.

Because of Vivian.

Because of the work she did.

Because she was the one who wanted Israelis to remember Gaza in peactime.

She was the one who wanted to "rehumanise" Gazans to Israeelis.

Israel is paying a price for that 'dehumanization' two million people.

If, on all these threads we have "what about Hamas?" I will now give "what about Israel?"

Don't say it then.

If you cannot verify - don't post it.

It just adds to clutter and mess.

youngones1 · 14/11/2023 20:45

We need to start talking about the 10,000 Palestinians prisoners/hostages that Israel has locked up. Why is no one talking about this?

Stomacharmeleon · 14/11/2023 21:04

There are lots of threads where this is spoken about. Why do you need or insist on coming on this thread and whatabouting all over it?
It's about the hostages.
It's the only one about the hostages.
And @EnoughIsay you don't get to police it. Moan to Mumsnet if you don't agree with a post. 'Clutter and mess'.... ridiculous

It'll be the video Hamas posted yesterday. I saw it too. I don't recommend watching it, and definitely don't think it should be shared. It starts with her speaking under duress in Hebrew, confirming who she is etc and then ends with her dead body. They've done something horrendous to her scalp. I really don't want to think about it too much.

But if you want to see it, look it up. I will definitely not be sharing it. It feels so incredibly disrespectful to her memory. I'd rather keep being accused of lying than share it

SomeCatFromJapan · 14/11/2023 21:13

@EnoughIsay I won't keep quiet about something I've seen with my own eyes. I'm sorry I didn't save an image of a dead teenager to post all over MN, how remiss of me.

Stomacharmeleon · 14/11/2023 21:16

@SomeCatFromJapan we have all seen it and I wish I could forget. Everything that's posted in relation to 7/10 is ' Didn't see it didn't happen' it's sickening.
