This is running on Al Jazeera and others - apparently Israel refused to take back two hostages.

The group of Thailand workers that were taken definitely are not Israeli and don't have dual citizenship

Hamas just took random people and knew they were not soilders or all Israeli.

The Hamas thugs weren't really very bright and just grabbed whoever they could.

Let's face it - would you send your best, most brainy, operatives on what could be a suicide mission?

Taking hostages that aren't Israeli won't make them popular with the countries concerned.

Efacsen · 02/11/2023 07:31

Doesn't seem like any British dual passport holders left Gaza yesterday - the Liverpool transplant surgeon definitely didn't and neither it appears did the UN employee

Not clear what the list is about and no-one knows how to get onto it

About 20 Australians left
As did the same no from Japan
Some US [no number given]

Sounds pretty chaotic - maybe it will become clearer later

Egypt’s foreign ministry has said it will help evacuate “about 7,000” foreigners and dual nationals from the Gaza Strip, according to news agency Agence France-Presse.

The official said the figure of “about 7,000” represents “more than 60” nationalities.

@Horrificallyuntidy you are being deliberately obtuse. It's propaganda at its best that they have depicted Gaza in that way when many know it's just not the case.

Parkingt111 · 02/11/2023 15:22

600 people on today's list of foreign nationals that can leave
It doesn't seem to be anyone from the UK so far

Trulywonderful · 02/11/2023 22:16

If US nationals made up the bulk all should be fine. If they were going to stop the UK nationals they would definitely stop the Americans

Parkingt111 · 02/11/2023 22:24

It was later confirmed that some UK nationals did leave today
Hopefully more tomorrow

Trulywonderful · 02/11/2023 22:27

Great news

Such a relief for their families here. Even if they take a while to be on the list. We know that they are no longer getting stopped from leaving and the list isn't just for Hamas friendly countries

Efacsen · 03/11/2023 09:38

78 US dual passport holders have now left out of approximately 700 people

The FCO is being a bit ?vague/evasive about the number of UK citizens - the Liverpool transplant surgeon is now in Cairo but no word on any other of the known named people

The reason being given for the low number of UK citizens is that the list of names is being compiled in negotiation with each countries embassy and the UK embassy 'doesn't hold much sway'

Today 100s of Gazan workers trapped in Israel since 7/10 were returned to Gaza

@Efacsen I saw that about the Gazans being returned back to Gaza
Although I can see that due to the current conflict Israel does not want any citizens of Gaza, it does seem abit scary that many of them return to a home they no longer recognise. Most likely having to move to a refugee camp and a high possibility of being killed or injured

Efacsen · 03/11/2023 12:16

A little bit of good news Scottish leaders parents-in-law have left Gaza

TakeMe2Insanity · 03/11/2023 12:17

I think sadly anyone leaving will be leaving with a broken heart of who’ve they’ve left behind. 💔 But yes a relief for some.

'After holding a press conference earlier today that featured former Supreme Court chief justice Aharon Barak, families of hostages held by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza gather in front of the gate of the Kirya military base in Tel Aviv, blocking a road.

The families announce they intend to stay at the entrance to the Kirya, which houses the IDF’s headquarters, until Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly declares that “there is no ceasefire without the return of all the captives.”'

Trulywonderful · 04/11/2023 00:02

I think this thread needs to give a nod to another time a Palestinian extremist group took Israel hostages. Just for anyone thinking that recent actions by Israel are the cause of the kidnapping or deaths. No this is something these groups have do multiple tins before. Just not on this scale.

The Munich massacre was a terrorist attack carried out during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany, by eight members of the Palestinian militant organization Black September, who infiltrated the Olympic Village, killed two members of the Israeli Olympic team, and took nine others hostage

Stomacharmeleon · 04/11/2023 00:13

And Mossad went after the masterminds as I hope they will do now.

I remember watching it on the news as a teenager. It was just tragic.

Also Entebbe, where Netanyahu's brother was killed. And various Palestinian hijackings which made Leila Khaled (PFLP?) a household name - not specifically targeting Israelis but I seem to remember Jewish passengers were always separated from others.

Trulywonderful · 04/11/2023 10:32

Yep these people always try to separate/ round up the Jews. Look at what happened in Russia the other day. Those protesters at the airport stopped buses outside and demanding to look at passengers documents to see if they were Jews. Then they stormed the airport and did the same.

Chilling stuff and if things continue without real measures to stop Jew hate we are close to getting such things happen in the UK

Those news emerged the same day that it was reported that Jewish people had gone to some uni halls and started shouting against the Muslim / Palestinians in there screaming death to the Arabs.
the hate is in both ways unfortunately

Xenia · 04/11/2023 18:40

Yes, years of Palestinian killings. I remember all those terrorist actions including Entebbe when I was a little girl.

Hamas has now said it won't stop and will keep invading Israel and repeating what it did. Israel has no choice but to defend itself from the terrorists.

I just heard a Labour party man on Radio 4 describing things pretty well who was saying it is a pity all those suprring UK marches etc do not understand the ultimate aim is to raid the planet of Israel and kill all the jews there. This is why Keir Stamer has taken the stance he has in favour of Israel.

Yep, I posted this on a thread the other day. I think it clearly displays the feelings in Israel towards Palestinian lives. I find it to be pretty chilling that people can be sat a few 100miles or less away from 1000s of people being killed and say they do not care at all about their suffering.

Efacsen · 04/11/2023 21:43

Not such good news

Hamas report 'more than 60 hostages are missing' Reuters

Rafah border crossing has been closed due to a dispute between Palestinian and Israeli authorities

And the woman from Manchester who went to Gaza for a family wedding has been refused permission to leave

Stomacharmeleon · 04/11/2023 21:55

@Efacsen see that makes me rage again as it sounds like they have misplaced them. They know full well where they are as they are a prized possession by Hamas. They aren't just missing: that's bullshit.

Does anyone honestly think there will be any meaningful movement on this whilst they are hostages missing/ unaccounted for/ being vague...
