Hi everyone I'm a newbie here, going to try for my first. I came got my last period on the 20th June and had just come off the pill, according to the calculators online I should be fertile now but just did one of those sticks and I'm not, anyone know what might be going on?

delilahbelle · 01/07/2010 18:30

Hi rosie - welcome to the April bus! Your period can take a while to settle back to a normal cycle after the pill - how long were your cycles before you started it? Best thing to do is chart your temps, watch for EWCM and pee on lots of sticks until you get the general idea of how your body works

Loopymumsy the cake sounds ace... hope you made enough for all of us

AFM - one of my oldest friends has just come out to me... very exciting, her girlfriend sounds very nice, and very much an improvement on her wanker ex. Must admit I have had my suspicions for a while but didn't want to come out and ask her, I am now the first person she has told officially .

Has totally taken my mind off all things ttc for ....oh.... at least ten minutes

Thanks you've put my mind at rest, at least I may still ovulate this month. Can I just check, the stick tells you before you ovulate and then ovulating is when the egg drops? How long does it take for the egg to drop as in how long do you have to get sperm to get to it? Sorry if it sounds like a silly question! Also what does UCL stand for? thanks!

delilahbelle · 01/07/2010 19:55

Hi rosie

Ideally you have sperm ready and waiting in your fallopian tubes for the egg... so as soon as you get a positive OPK get SWI. I think there is a rough 12-36 hour window each month when the egg can survive if not fertilised, so not very long!

UCL = usual cycle length

rosieroseanna · 01/07/2010 20:48

Thanks! Also what do OPK and SWI mean?

Phew - now that's done... can I just say I want AF to SOD OFF.
I have now been bleeding a week on and off, even not counting the first few days as I was only spotting it's still bloody annoying. I want to SFF, never mind SWI

Still. I am drinking grapefruit juice like it's going out of fashion, popping my vitamins every morning, and feeling very positive. Popped into work, picked up loads of stuff to do, and am now working at home for the day. Working... honest

UniMummy · 02/07/2010 09:44

delilahbelle - What is grapefruit juice good for? Every little helps and all that!

I don't think I'm going to ovulate again this month . Feeling a bit low to be honest as the doctor had told me I would go back to 'normal' within a week of taking thyroxin and it's not happened like that. Atleast I can concentrate on the SWI/SFF for the next few days!

Hope everyone is ok and glad to hear you are feeling so positive delilahbelle, spread the vibes around

delilahbelle · 02/07/2010 10:02

Grapefruit juice can help improve the amount of CM. Has to be fresh, and it's absolutely vile (apologies if you like the stuff) The pink stuff is slightly less disgusting.
I always find it works for me. However, grapefruit juice interacts with some drugs, so if you are on them it needs to be avoided.

delilahbelle · 02/07/2010 10:06

Here you are too - apparently it boosts levels of estrogen, which is the hormone that tells our body to produce EWCM. I personally am not too worried about the risk of breast cancer, given I hate the fruit and only drink the juice for the first half of my cycle.

Thank You

Will double check with GP before I add this to my obsessive perfectly normal ritual.

I quite like grapefruit juice :-) just received my mumsnet pregnancy & babies guides already have the toddler one. Watching andy Murray at the mo

delilahbelle · 02/07/2010 18:36

I feel like a real guru now, hope it works for you. Cough medicine with guafensine (sp?) is my other trick around the time of OV.

DarciesmumandTTC2 · 03/07/2010 12:53

Delilah why cough mixture?

Rockbird ttc#2 - standing at the bus top waiting for the next one.

We've decided to hold off for this month. As I thought previously, ov falls the entire length of the week we are staying at my cousin's house for a family wedding. There will be absolutely no opportunity to SWI particularly as DD co-sleeps with us. It is a good thing though as the first week in Aug we are going on holiday on a ship and I get horrendously sea sick. We did it three years ago when I was pg and I couldn't take any meds at all, hated every second of the trip. This time I will be able to have every drug they can chuck at me and hopefully have a good time!

So I will be popping back here to catch up on all the bfps but I will be keeping the seats warm on the May bus.

Good luck everyone, here's to lots of lines on tests

OP posts:
twowoulddo · 03/07/2010 13:10

Ooh can I join in? I have only had two cycles since AF returned after baby #1 but they were approx 32 days. This is CD23 and we BD'd Tuesday before I (think) ov'd Wed. Fingers crossed for lots of BFP's all round!

delilahbelle · 03/07/2010 13:53

Ah, thats a shame rockbird, I expect to see you on the May bus as we are not really seriously ttc this month - I want to recover from the chem preg. Saying that I have just had a pack of digital ovulation tests arrive not sure I will manage to save them

Feeling happy today - AF has left the building and I have my mojo back sadly we are at my parents tonight for a party, but may have some SFF tomorrow just to practise.

Welcome twowoulddo hopefully you'll have a short ride.

takingtheplunge · 03/07/2010 14:01

Hello ladies! AF due in 8 days and really bored of waiting. Fairly sure it'll be BFN this month, but going to try to hold out til at least next Sat before testing and if poss not test until AF actually late.
