Does anyone know The Secrets of Those Sticks?! I used them in the month I got pregnant with ds, but the sticks themselves were very inconclusive. I also used them last month to no avail (maybe I didn't ovulate) - & they're so bloody expensive!! Since scanning a book on the subject (read it properly? Now why should I do that?!) I am now obsessed with mucus. Anyone else?

I find mucus a tough one as I don't always spot it and don't relish the thought od sticking my fingers up to find out really. The temp method used with the sticks or persona is supposed to be fairly reliable. I like my persona and with any luck fingers crossed it will have worked! I found those sticks expensive like you and not conclusive ad had to wait 4 hours for a wee!

I used temping and sticks this mth and luckily got it right with 3 sticks but it was great to have the temping for confirmation. Theres a site called testsforless.com where you can buy them cheaper. I know a few people who said they delivered in a couple of days.

I also don't rely too heavily on the mucous spotting (or knicker-gazing as its referred to on some sites! ).

There's a site called fertilityfriend.com that has a nice little downloadable handbook which gives a very good overview of the whole ttcing thing/temping/opks etc.

BigBird, thanks for the info. Just been to Boots this morning to have a look at the sticks - £17.99 for 5! (if I was looking at the right thing). You're right about the expense scampadoodle! Quackers, why did you have to wait 4 hours for a wee?

Report
quackers · 11/07/2003 13:24

I got those boots ones and it said it needed to be 4 hours since last wee, to avoid false negative, but I found that impossible. I don't know if they're all the same though. As BB says there are loads that do bulk disc on internet in discrete packing.
Thanks for info BB, will look.

Report
hewlettsdaughter · 11/07/2003 13:29

Can you not just take the test as soon as you get up? (Sorry, I've only looked at the packets, not seen the instructions).

Report
quackers · 11/07/2003 13:55

I don't know about other brands, but those boots ones said wait until second urine, 4 hours. That's why I got my persona out as that is first urine of the day and suits me. Did you buy any? If not look at the websites as they give al the info on those about when to test etc....

I bought clearblue opk's - seven in the pack. The info said hold your wee for 4 hours but also said you could test first thing in the am. BUT - I had read you shouldn't test so early so I researched it and apparantly the luteinizing hormone rise usually happens early morning when you're sleeping and may not show up first thing so it's recommended to wait till 12pm or later. I used to 'go' before coming into work and then hold out as long as I could so mostly it was 3-4 hrs and hey presto on the 3rd day there was a dark line.

Actually it's also explained quite well in the
Fertility Friend Handbook

Bunny2, when are you going to test? I'll probaly wait until Wednesday. Just been on website though and it really rates the first response test. It can measure 6 wotsits of HCG. Any more signs??

Bugger - consultant didnt give me clomid. But that's prob a good thing, as after looking at my charts said that it appeared i may have ov by myself. Aren't i clever! Anyway, he's asked me to go back for a 24 and 27 day progesterone test to see if i do ov. Then i have to have tubes checked for blockages. Only then will he know if clomid will suit. Spose its a good thing, but i was just getting hopes up for some proper 'trying' if you know what i mean. hey ho

Still trying, although we have now ruled out the possibility that it may be an immaculate conception and are having some early nights and loads of fun in the process - wayhey! Was 2 days late last month and ever so dissappointed when my period finally arrived so am trying to be pragmatic this time around although I am not due yet so it is easy to say NOW...

Quackers, first response gave me a false neg when I was preg with DD. I tested two days early like you're supposed to but was very disappointed!! It was 11/09/01 though so later that day I was thinking I didn't want to have a baby anyway...Deed was done though and a clearblue test picked it up a few days later.

Well, I went shopping this am and thought, I'll give it a go with he early pg test. Got home and went straight upstairs and IT'S POSITIVE!!!!:0:0
I am totally gobsmacked as I didn't expect to see anything until Tues. I'm shaking, even an hour later. It is very very early but the line was quite strong. Given the symptoms I'm having I am praying for a healthy baby this time and can't help feel a little sad the for the last one. But must move on and put my energies into looking after me at bit!! Thanks all for every bit of advice given and the support that this thread gives. I couldn't have done it without all these pearls of wisdom!!Here's hoping it goes well and good luck to all trying.

Quackers - fantastic news!

What pg test did you use? Asking cos I'm on day 25 today (usually on a 26/27 day cycle) and am itching to do an early test myself! I keep getting strange pains in the pubic area, mostly when doing a wee, and have mysteriously lost a few pounds without trying (this happened with ds) - I'm probably wishful thinking but I can't wait to get to the supermarket to get a test, but I've got to wait for the darn washing machine man to come and fix the thing!

Thanks HD, come back to me later!!! Jodee, I used first repsonse. It was the only one there so I thought, well if its neg I'll try again tommorow as the signs were strong. It says it will detect in about 50% of women 3 days before period, so don't rule it out if its neg. I am only day 22/23!!!! I have a short cycle though like you and was due on probably Tues. TRY!! Please!!!! Bloody washing machines!!!!!!
