Nice clean thread for us - may there be many a BFP on here

OP posts:
digitalgirl · 26/05/2010 12:55

Am 2dpo and already have rtd-like cramping and back-ache. Not helping me to fuggeddaboudit for the next two weeks.

hairytriangle · 26/05/2010 13:14

thanks digitalgirl I will look into that. I have a regular cycle but am sure that I have ovulated as far apart as day 8 and day 17 in some cycles, so it might be a useful monitor. I am fairly sure in March I ovulated twice

In other news (and I'm trying not to hog the thread, honest) I had a much, much better experience with hospital today. different doctor who said 'ooh fingers and everything firmly crossed for it to have gone down today!' and when I said I realised I might have been a bit of a pain in the arse yesterday she said 'god no, not at all, it's about you, not us, and it's about what you feel is right for you' - she also said that my notes said that the consultant said if they go down at all then I won't need methotrexate - which is not what I was told by teenager-doctor-grumpy-cow yesterday!

She'd clearly read my notes and said although she's not in this afternoon when I get the results, she'd be thinking of me and she'd check tomorrow on how it went for me

hairytriangle · 26/05/2010 13:15

and digitalgirl hugs and chocolate to you x

emptyshell · 26/05/2010 13:22

I'm trying to mark this years KS2 English reading papers today... and all I'm seeing is answers like "he realized his child was the most precious thing in the world"... "family was what made him happiest" etc etc.

You can imagine how these are making me feel - can't wait till I get back to the answers about how everyone died on the way to the Gold Rush.

digitalgirl · 26/05/2010 13:33

hairy you won't have ovulated twice, but your body may have attempted to ovulate and then for some reason (stress, illness etc) didn't so it attempted ovulation a second time and then got it right. Technically, once an egg has been released, the empty follicle it came from starts producing progesterone which stops the rest of the eggs maturing and being released within about 24 hours. Sometimes another egg is released before there is enough progesterone to stop it...if both eggs get fertilized and implant then this results in fratnernal (non-identical) twins. But they will only be hours apart - not days or weeks.

digitalgirl · 26/05/2010 13:37

fraternal (not fratnernal)

can you tell I've been reading a lot on ttc?

Empty concentrate on the typos

hairytriangle · 26/05/2010 14:19

digital it is actually possible to ovulate twice in one cycle! I've been told this by my consultant and there is stuff online to show it can happen.

"In rare cases, a women may ovulate twice in a month, once from each ovary. "

source www.fwhc.org/health/moon.htm

digitalgirl · 26/05/2010 14:42

Ah, trumped by a professional . If your consultant says its possible then please ignore me...am only spouting shizzle that I read in my Zita and TCOYF books.

hairytriangle · 26/05/2010 14:54

It's very, very rare, though, digital LOL. Seems I am a total freak of nature!!!

Only an hour to go til I can find out if my HCG has gone down - drumrol............. tumbleweed............ everything is crossed!

sarahmia · 26/05/2010 15:10

LadyBee · 26/05/2010 15:50

hey ladies - naptime at bee manor means a chance to get on and catch up with the chat during daylight . I know, I maybe went a little overboard with the overt cycle-tracking this month, it is the first month after all, I just wanted to know what was going on and feel I'd done everything I could to help stave off the disappointment of first cycle failure, but I guess the unspoken pressure didn't help matters.
We would normally just do the every other day thing from about day 9, so maybe if I just let him know what day it is and leave it at that he'll feel a bit more in control. We'll talk about it this evening - am sure we'll work something out. And I'll be here to handhold those who had better luck and are real contenders on the 2ww.

Enough about me - Hairy, sounds like a much more human doctor this time, fingers crossed for those results.

And I also wanted to extend a big warm hug to Sarahmia and empty.

LadyBee · 26/05/2010 15:51

TAcrazy · 26/05/2010 16:00

Hello y'all

I'm new to this thread but can I please join? I had a MMC last August at 11 weeks and 6 days, 2 weeks after my mum passed away, so last year was totally shit. This thread seems really positive though and I would love to sit in with you.

Fingers crossed for us all xx

hairytriangle · 26/05/2010 16:17

*TAcrazy) welcome to the thread! Sorry to hear of your losses, I hope this year is panning out better for you so far.

Pull up a pew and join us!

Hairy x

TAcrazy · 26/05/2010 16:19

Thanks Hairy!!

LadyBee · 26/05/2010 17:02

empty I was just reading back through the posts and got to your joining one - you mention your BMI is too high currently for NHS assistance for reproduction. But have you had the investigations done for the cause of the infertility yet? Not just you - your husband too (obviously, your high BMI can affect ovulation, but it has nothing to do with any problems he might have). You must have ovulated to get pregnant in the first place though, that's a good sign. And what about NHS help with losing the weight? I know you probably don't have the best opinion of GPs right now, but if you feel like they're down on your because of your BMI, can you turn the tables and ask them what they can do to help you get it down?
I expect after TTC for 3 years you're pretty much a pro, and know the score - just wondered whether you've talked with your about using metformin? If you look at this abstract here it seems to suggest that metformin alongside reduced calorie is better at reducing BMI, than dieting alone: "In both PCOS and control women, however, metformin treatment reduced body weight and BMI significantly more than placebo". Metformin is usually used for ladies with PCOS (like me) or diabetics, but in this study it doesn't matter if the people had PCOS or not, the weight reduction was improved for both.

Hope those papers aren't too arduous - take care

emptyshell · 26/05/2010 17:48

Our doctor did more than I expected them to do. OH's sperm is about as normally crap as any blokes, my hormone levels are... well female and normal, I've had a scan and no sign of PCOS (also showed a follicle ready to pop at the time).

There's nothing more the NHS can do with me until I lose the weight - I've shifted three stone of it with the help of xenical (a delightful experience in building a nice relationship up between you and your toilet) - but now I'm beginning to feel like I'm being strung along as some kind of project of his to see how far he can drag this fat woman along dangling some hope of help if she loses "just a little bit more weight"... "you've lost a lot, if you can lose a little bit more I'll try to persuade a consultant to see you before you hit the NHS guidelines" etc etc... with no actual progress. Cynically I'm hoping now I've actually mentioned that this is all making me consider suicide - that it might flag up to them the toll everything's taken on me - because I've been inwardly (and outwardly) begging for some more help for months now (I've sobbed buckets in the doc's surgery) and they haven't taken it on board and just strung me along agreeing to try for yet another month.

That was all before the miscarriage - now I know I'll get fobbed off with a "oh you must now be fertile, lose more weight and we'll see what we can do in a few more months of the weight loss." In other words - still getting absolutely nowhere and feeling more and more rotten about myself.

My BMI was pushing 48-49 and I was nearer 20 stone than 19 when I started all of this (for some reason my build is such that I didn't look it at all - I was a size 26/28 - I've always been able to carry weight well for some reason I've never fathomed)... BMI's now just nudging 40 and I'm about 17ish stones and just getting into a size 20. As you can guess - I've got a massively long way to go. Sad thing was - before all of this - I was happy about myself... now I've met the NHS obesity reduction guidelines monster... well, my username says what I've become - but hey ho I'm thinner therefore life must be rainbows, butterflies and beauty!

Oh - and I'm 32 in just over a fortnight... and the local limits on treatment deem you unsuitable and disqualified at the age of 35. There's really not much future apart from praying for a miracle - and I've tried that particular one for months!

Hopefully · 26/05/2010 18:23

Oh FFS, think RTD is here, has just started. I just cannot believe how crap my body is. Don't even feel I can go an weep at DP as he is in such a complete and total state over potential redundancy . It's so shit.

Sorry for being so self pitying, I know I've got it a lot better than many (thanks for the sensible reminder sarahmia), but I am young (27), healthy (5'6", 10st, fit, active, yada yada yada), fell pregnant first time both previous times, and now my body is BROKEN.

Hairy I'm so happy for you! What great news.

TACrazy welcome, sorry you find yourself here, as you can see we are a usually-very-cheerful-but-sometimes-very-not-cheerful bunch, but we're always nice!

Moofold · 26/05/2010 19:32

Oh Hopefully, that's shit, it wears you down month after month doesn't it. If its any consolation its game over for me too pal - RTD appeared during a 3 hour meeting accompanied by agonising cramp. Only midly devastated as I knew inside there was no signs. Didn't stop me having a go at the weesticks this morning though! Last 2 cycles I've had an 11 now 10 day luteal phase which is a new joy to behold and something else to obssess about.

I've updated the list with us both - cycle buddies now, this time we will get upduffed! Sarahmia welcome to the list, if you're on CD 22 I've moved you up closer to the top. Jollster good to see you back in action! Slim, ready to move to the grads yet?

Sorry to hear the dreaded 'botched' attempts are spreading Ladybee. Sounds like what you're suggesting is sensible for future - bon chance. Lolling loads at Empty cursing the offending appendage! Then felt sad at your last post so sending a hug your way x

Brilliant news Hairy, so glad the end is in sight for you. I had crazy cramps for the WTF and 1st cycle Digi, try not to read to much into them - or fathom what they could mean.

Passing round the bottle of rioja purchsed on the way home from work, help yourselves everyone
