Katierocket, sorry you're having such bad side effects with the clomid.....hopefully it'll work soon & it'll all be worth it.

Lunarsea, good luck with the clomid. Saw the doctor yesterday & my day 3 results still weren't back, but seeing as my 21 day progesterone result was so low, he has referred me to the fertility consultant anyway. So finally feel I'm getting somewhere. Had a sneaky peek at my notes on the screen whilst I was there today having a repeat 21 day prog test & the doc seems to think that my results show I'm not ovulating (my levels were 2.0 & I think they look for 20 - 30 to confirm ov has taken place). Seems strange as I always though I ovulated ok (clear as mud through temping on fertility friend + OPK results) but just ovulated too late for a fertilised embryo to successfully implant/survive.

Ah well, guess I'll find out when my appointment comes through! Iona x

Roobedoo · 22/09/2005 20:52

Katierocket - sorry to hear your news. How many goes at clomid will you get?

I think I only get 4 goes, then its IUI, but I'm really not sure if I'm ready to get into that sort of invasive procedure. I'm starting to think I won't get pregnant again - don't know if this is protecting myself or just acceptance, but I've already had enough. Been trying for a year in October and frankly I'm boring myself by thinking about it all the time!

Cristina7 · 22/09/2005 21:02

Sorry I didn't have time to read the thread. Your dr might have told you that you'd ovulate 14 days or so after the last dose, so depending on the regimen prescribed this may be on day 20 or more of your cycle (in case you do timed intercourse - a different topic).

katierocket · 23/09/2005 09:31

roobedo - I've already decided that the next lot of Clomid will be my last (3rd cycle), I've had horrible depression on it so don't want the dose upped. We'll probably go to IUI. I know exactly how you feel, we will have been trying for 18 months next month, hardly seems possible.

MeerkatsUnite · 23/09/2005 11:03

Katierocket,

Am sorry to read its like this; I know all too well what ovulation problems are like.

Do you have an actual diagnosis of the problem?. This is important, you should have a firm diagnosis ideally.

What does your cons recommended next, it may be that IUI may not necessarily be the way forward. There may be something else (if the problem is ovulatory injectible drugs can sometimes give more success than clomid).

You ought to be seen by the team at the unit on a regular basis.

katierocket · 23/09/2005 13:38

Well it's just unexplained secondary infertility. Not sure Clomid is even the best thing for me to take since technically I was ovulating, although since taking it my OV signs are much stronger - lots of EWCM etc.

MeerkatsUnite · 23/09/2005 14:41

Hi Katierocket,

Unexplained infertility (infact I would say you are subfertile rather than actually infertile) is actually no diagnosis at all. All this means is that to date the docs have failed to find out what is wrong.

If bloods tests (only though mind as these are reliable) over a period of time showed that you were ovulating then clomid would not have been beneficial at all.

I would ask of you exactly what tests have been done on you both to date. My guess is that it is a very short list. I would also think that a lot of tests have been missed out or just not done.

I would have harsh words with these people next time you see them. You may even now want to consider getting a second opinion.

katierocket · 23/09/2005 17:12

really?
DH has had 3 sperms test and I have had the 21 day test and the test to check my FSH levels. I've not had an HSG but consultant says he doesn't think it's necessary. I do wonder about the clinic but it was recommended to me and I don't really want to start again with another clinic and pay another set of fees.

MeerkatsUnite · 23/09/2005 17:29

Katierocket,

If you felt at all unhappy with this clinic I would find another one to work with. The three of you need to be able to work and communicate as a team. It pays dividends actually to visit several clinics beforehand to find out exactly how they treat their patients as well as what tests they offer. Generally speaking here going private does not automatically guarantee better treatment.

Purely from what you write your LH levels have not been checked - they should be and compared against your FSH level. An imbalance of these two can be indicative of hormonal problems. Am wondering also why your cons considers the HSG (tubal x-ray) not to be necessary. It is a useful test to have done as it gives info not easily accessible by other methods (e.g a laparoscopy which is surgery).

If you are having any misgivings I would seriously consider getting a second opinion.

Just a quickie from me - AF is here so it's back on the psycho pills from tomorrow

No such thing as beginner's luck for me, oh well, onwards and upwards.

Hope everyone else is well, good luck for this month

milesysgirl · 28/09/2005 09:02

hi loubie i will be in your position next week when af is due so we will just have to wait and see....... so sorry to hear about your af. This whole thing is such a emotional rollercoaster ,we all need some good luck!!!!

OP posts:
LunarSea · 29/09/2005 13:49

Doesn't look like it's going to work. Scan today (CD11) and there's absolutely no sign of anything happening. So now it's wait for AF to return - which at least should only be about a week based on the 2 last cycles which have only been 18 days each - and then another scan on day 1 or 2 next time around to see whether to carry on with the clomid, change the does, or do something else.

katierocket · 29/09/2005 16:09

sorry to hear that Lunar, what dosage are you on?

I've just started 3rd cycle of Clomid, not holding out much hope TBH but we'll keep trying.

LunarSea · 29/09/2005 16:43

katie - only 50mg, so there's scope to increase the dose (not the "does" - duh!) I suppose. Am just trying not to think about how much it's all costing as I'll be paying for another load of scans next month at least, until we see if it's actually doing any good.

katierocket · 29/09/2005 17:31

is it 50mg twice a day or just 50mg?

I only ask because I'm sure earlier in the thread someone talks abotu going to see a consultant who reckons that 50mg is never enough. God knows, i'm on 100mg and it's not worked for me yet!

LunarSea · 30/09/2005 07:54

Just 50mg once. But maybe more next time round?

Roobedoo · 06/10/2005 19:59

How is everyone? I've had a month off courtesty of my cyst, but actually after the initial disappointment of another failed month, it was really nice not to have to go through the 'am I/aren't I' time. Back on the clomid today so just hoping I produce some big juicy follicles. Mind you, I did that the first month and we weren't successful. Oh well - someone on this thread deserves some good luck otherwise I'm going to think we're all jinxed!

milesysgirl · 06/10/2005 20:25

hi everyone .... i also started another cycle of clomid today really thought i wouldnt need it this month ,feel really crap at the moment , some-one must have some good news soon ....

OP posts:
lfm · 06/10/2005 20:33

Hi, Sorry to come in at a late stage and not having read all the messages but I used Clomid - both times GP referred me to hospital and they did scans throughout the cycle to check how many eggs etc being produced. I was ovulating but irregularly after miscarriages so I was just on 1/2 tab (25mg) and it worked after 4 months. Our hospital recommended it only being used for 6 months at a time due to a possible increased risk of ovarian cancer although I believe the research is unclear and suggests it may be that the cause of fertility problems is what leads to the increased risk. Sorry if this is all said earlier.

Roobedoo · 06/10/2005 20:40

Milesygirl - I'll be keeping an eye on you then as we're on the same day. I'm having a scan a week on Monday, will be CD13. Are you being monitored?

milesysgirl · 06/10/2005 21:13

no my consultent gave me the clomid in aug and said come back at the end on november !! wish i could be monitered though then i would at least no whats going on ...if any thing its getting to the point now when i just feel like giving up ....

Loubie37 · 07/10/2005 07:33

Hi everyone, sorry I've not posted for a while...I've been trying not to let TTCing preoccupy so much of my time, but it's not working

I'm on day 10 now of my 2nd cycle and only just finished my AF today - I thought it was going to go for ever, it was never heavy but just went on and on. Oh well, it's stopped just in time for some serious jiggy jiggy to get going

Milesygorl - is it worth asking your GP to do 21 day progesterone blood tests? At least you would know if it's working or not then. I didn't have one on month one, but I'm having them done this month and next ready for my next consultant appointment in December.

Good luck everyone, lets hope we ALL get BFPs this time round!!

milesysgirl · 07/10/2005 08:55

yeah thanks loubie 37 ive got docs this morning i will ask him then.....good luck everyone xxx

Just thought I'd give you some positive news: I completed my fourth and final batch of Clomid (100mg a day, no monitring - taking it it imporve quality of eggs due to my age, 44, as I am still ovulating) at the end of August.

I am now 5+5 weeks preganant

I'll need to remember to cancel my follow-up appointment at the fertility clinic in November - but I'm not doing it just yet, in case anything happens in the early stages (I had a missed misaccariage 2 years ago).

milesysgirl · 07/10/2005 09:05
