morning ladies! Hope that you all had lovely weekends.

Bit gutted as AF arrived with a lot of pain on Saturday morning , she seems to have dissappeared now which is a bit unusual but I guess my body is just having a bit of a "funny" month.

DH was fab when I told him on Friday night (was a little bit worried about telling him to be honest!!) and said that whatever it was it would be fine. Bless. I had a bit of an emmotional weekend for some reason and had a good cry when we went to bed last night. Think it's just a combination of not seeing him and being miserable in my job and then the being desperate to TTC but not being able to. It just makes me a bit down and a good cry usually makes me feel a bit better for a few weeks!!!

I tried to explain to him last night how I feel about TTC. He is somebody who can never wait for anything that he really wants so I tolf him that it was like him really wanting a new bike (he is mad about cycling and owns 4 bikes already) but not being able to have it for another 2 years..... I think that helped him understand how frustrating it is but it didn't change his mind on timings.

I even pointed out that if we started TTC this month and things happened fast then it would fit perfectly with a lot of other things but he is sticking to his "we need to spend time together as a couple first" line and so I'll be lurking in here until March at the earliest

Nannyl and Bebe - very exciting that you are on the vitamins already!! one step closer to TTC for you both!!

xxx

nannyl · 02/08/2010 09:21

hello squirrel

ditto bebejones and i say that zinc is to give OH "supersperm"

and sperm go into production about 100 days before they "come out" so make when you start taking folic acid its a good idea for your partner to start taking zinc

bebejones · 02/08/2010 09:52

JS - Must be the month for odd cycles mine was completely bizarre too! At least you know now. About your DH not changing his mind though. If your job situation changes soon can you TTC earlier?

Nannyl - I didn't know sperm took that long to 'make', although not sure how long I thought it took!

OP posts:
JustShaggingForNow · 02/08/2010 10:07

Hey Bebe - funny that we both had really odd cycles this month, must be something in the air!!!

The chances of TTC earlier are about..... um zero! He's not going to change his mind no matter what I say. Bit irritating as it seems a little unfair that we have to do what he decides but as he is the one who is going to have to support me and the baby then i guess I don't really have much choice!! Unless we have an "accident".... but I don't think my conscience could cope with engineering that just yet.......

great stat nannyl - also not sure how long I thought they took to 'make' but am a little amazed that it's over 3 months!!!!

squirrel007 · 02/08/2010 10:17

Thanks for the info! Guess I should start on the vits now if we're planning for the end of sept. Makes it feel a bit real and scary! Also will look into zinc, but hb is sceptical about vitamins so I'm not sure he'll take them. Interesting fact nannyl

js sorry to hear you're feeling down.

bebejones · 03/08/2010 07:30

Where are our ladies MIA?

AmandaCooper, Mermummy, Minipie, Alien06, Quodlibet, Pipoca... hope you are all ok?

Feeling so tired at the moment, so much going on! Feel like I could sleep for a week! So excited that we are now in August though, TTC is getting closer & closer!

OP posts:
JustShaggingForNow · 03/08/2010 08:46

I was wondering where everybody had gone too....... do you think they're on holiday or have dissappeared off to TTC???

bebejones · 03/08/2010 16:39

Probably a bit of both! Certainly gone quiet again in here!

Had a really busy morning & DD still didn't nap today! Feel cream crackered now, maybe I should put me to bed for a nap! At least when I have another baby she'll be at playgroup some of the time & I can do the 'sleep when they sleep' thing again! Sod the housework!

Hi everyone, i was wondering if anyone else on here was waitinbg until they lost a bit of weight?? I was going to start TTC this month but BMI is well into overweight so decided to wait in light of scary article posted on the front on mumsnet this week. Anyone else in the same boat? I'm tired of waiting cos i'm 34 and feel time is not on my side

bebejones · 03/08/2010 20:22

Welcome Dynababy!

I had a BMI of 32 when I conceived my DD and although I had no problems due to my weight in pregnancy. However I was very aware that being so overweight had all sorts of implications during pregnancy. Also had a couple of really horrid MWs who made me feel crap about being overweight and PG. So for that reason I decided I needed to lese weight before TTC #2. Could you talk to your GP about it if you are concerned about putting things off due to your age? They may be able to put some of your worries at ease or at least help with any weight loss. I started my diet in Jan this year & have lost just over 4 stone & my BMI is now just over 25, so have a few more lbs before I'm a 'healthy' weight! I want to lose enough to have a bit of a 'buffer zone' when we start TTC IYSWIM? How long are you wanting to give yourself to lose the weight you want to lose? Do you know what sort of maternity services are available near you as MLU have a upper BMI limit of 35 I think. So if you want to use one of those you should be fine if your BMI is lower than that. Think the article was horrid scaremongering (sp?) some of the healthiest people I know have had some of the worst pregnancies/births! If the low risk MLU will accept people up to a BMI of 35 (which is well into Obese catagory) then that speaks volumes IMO!

Rant over!

OP posts:
Dynababy · 03/08/2010 20:38

Thanks for replying bebejones, my BMI is 31 and i was just going to go for it as otherwise i'm healthy and eat loads of fruit and veg etc but was put off by that article! I'm doing ww and know i can shift the weight just don't have another year to do it so was thinking maybe just lose 10% and start trying then and continue to eat healthily during pg to make sure i didn't make things worse. I am annoyed at self for not takinbg losing weight seriously enough as i've already been waiting to ttc due to changing jobs!! Not sure if 10% will be enough .. hmmmm.

You have done really well shifting the lbs - how did you do it!? Any tips?

bebejones · 03/08/2010 20:50

I joined a fab thread on MN, here, they have all been very supportive and we give each other kicks up the bum! Come and join us if you like!

Stepped up how much exercise I was doing, not loads coz I don't have time with a toddler in tow!

Really watch what I eat & use foodfocus webiste to help log my calories/exercise.

Cut out all the crap & only had take-away as treats when I reached big milestones (1st, 2st, BMI dropping to overweight instead of obese etc) and also occasions. Although have relaxed a bit about this now I've lost the majority of the weight. Ideally I'd like to lose about another 12lbs, but 3lbs would mean that I am officially a healthy weight.

From what I have heard you can do WW whilst PG as it's more of a healthy eating lifestyle than a diet. Know plenty of people who weighed less after the birth than when they conceived. Also I lost 1.5 stone in the first 20weeks when PG as I was so sick....piled it all on when I worked out that the only way to me stop feeling ill was to eat constantly! If I had been sensible I probably wouldn't have put so much weight on in the last 20 weeks!

JustShaggingForNow · 04/08/2010 10:05

bebe that's seriously impressive - well done you!!!

What are the NHS guidelines for BMI range when TTC? I know that there is a bottom end as well as a top end but I'm not sure that the bottom end of the range is. Mine is not super low but it is a bit lower than the norm (probably down to fat weighing a lot less than muscle!!!!!)

bebejones · 04/08/2010 12:07

Think 18.5 is the bottom end of 'healthy', use this to work your BMI out!

OP posts:
JustShaggingForNow · 04/08/2010 12:23

Perfect. Mine has been below 20 for a while but it's been a very long time since I was under 18.5!!!

bebejones · 04/08/2010 13:19

JS - being under 18.5 is unhealthy too, sounds like you are in the right bracket at the moment for TTC so wouldn't worry! Very of you being under 20, have had to work my arse off (literally ) to get to 25.2!! Think genes play a part, I don't think I will ever be 'small'! Although was a proper skinny beast when I was a teenager then the pill happened & I piled the weight on!

OP posts:
JustShaggingForNow · 04/08/2010 13:39

Yeah - I was a bit poorly for a while when I was younger and still have to make an effort to eat when I'm stressed. However I have also been at 25.2 (after a ski season!!!)

I'm incredibly lucky as all my family are slim but I do still have to watch what I eat as I am prone to putting it on (and loosing it) quite fast.

I really admire you making such an effort to get your BMI down and loosing 4 stone in less than 8 months is a bloody amazing achievement. Your DH ust be pretty damn proud of you! It sounds liek you are getting yourself in tip top condition for SWI at the end fo the year ;)

I had big issues with anxiety when I was at school. Between the ages of about 14-17 I used to be sick quite regularly & couldn't eat or even be near food at all. I lost alot of weight then, and then had glandular fever & lost even more! It all stayed off until I went on the pill

Comments from a couple of MWs stuck with me & that's why I really have made the effort to lose weight. Didn't even put this much effort in for our wedding! Just wish DH would lose some weight too, worry about his health alot & he has alot to lose

Hello, been busy with work and away a bit at the seaside. Just checked my BMI on that site bebe and I'm a stone overweight! I knew I'd been porking it on recently but I thought I'd only put on a couple of pounds and it's a stone I need to shift. Quite a wake up call Going to have to stop eating so much crap.

bebejones · 04/08/2010 14:06

X posts Why wait! Welcome!

Afraid no advice from me. Sounds like a tricky situation! Would have thought that situation wise (with redundancy) it would make sense from your point of view to TTC now. But have no experience! I'm sure someone else will have some words of wisdom though!

OP posts:
bebejones · 04/08/2010 14:08

Xposts again!!

Hey Pip! of seaside, soooooooo need a holiday! It's amazing the difference just cutting out the junk can make & drinking loads of water! Good Luck!

OP posts:
JustShaggingForNow · 04/08/2010 15:21

lots of water is always good. As is eating an apple before your meal - it makes you feel more fully and so you eat less at meals.

I was determined not to put on the weight I'd lost for the wedding and so when DH and I get the chance to eat supper together (when his arse of a boss isn't keeping him chained to his deak!!) I try and use a smaller place and have about half of what he has. It does sometimes mean I go back for 2nds but most of the time it works. It's so easy to fall into eating what your OH eats and if they're active too then it's even easier to put on weight without noticing!

I just need to learn to cut out my daily toffee crisp........ oops!

JustShaggingForNow · 04/08/2010 15:24

Oh - and welcome WhyWait!!

Sorry to hear about your redundancy. I was made redundant last June and it's never a nice process but great that you have good savings and that they will give you a good payout (bit as I got nothing from my wanker of a boss!!!)

TTC in Sept - super exciting!! I am sure that when you explain it to DH he will understand why it needs to be now and not later, it would be hard to be made redundant and then get a job only to fall PG and not qualify for mat pay.

bebejones · 04/08/2010 16:13

WhyWait - JS makes a good point about qualifying for mat pay if you start a new job. How long do you think your DH wants to wait?

JS - I always try and have a glass of water before dinner to try & fill me up. My biggest downfall is DDs leftovers! Plus she is a really bad eater so often I have to have bits of hers to encourage her to try it...all adds up calorie wise!

Can't stop thinking about TTC and baby #2! Last night I drew out my fantasy nursery mural in my sketch book! Thankfully DH just thinks I was doodling! But I have practically re-decorated the nursery in my head already!!
