WhiteRoses, accept the promotion and (if possible) take a short break from TTC. I advocate the short break only a a sop to your conscience and to ensure that you do manage more than two weeks in the new job, not because I think its in any way neccessary . If you have a higher salary, then you'll probably have a bit more income during your maternity leave and have a higher proportion of earnings if you decided to go back p/t after mat leave.

The companay will have to replace you when you leave your current job - the administrative overhead fr them is practically the same whichever job you are in. You would go through the same pregnancy risk assessment whichever job you are doing, its just that the outcome would be different in the new job.

When you do get you BFs, you'll be thankful for every bit of spare cash you have in order lavish your PFB with everything s/he needs and will not be at all concerned about the fact that you might have caused a mild administrative headache for the company you work for.

Are you feeling convinced yet? I think your scruples are honest and good, but you don't need to have them. You are preparing to start a family - family needs have to come before the company's.

Re my interesting aches - they are still there, although a bit milder than yesterday. I tested this morning and got the expected BFN. I'll try and hold off till Wednesday, which is when AF is due. I am starting to think its probably just slow-burning PMT . I have a busy week at work coming up, so going to try and focus on work and not think about it too much.

Calyx my understanding is that nowt can get dislodged by having a few extra swimmers floating past, so get on with it! Not all D-ing needs to be BD-ing IYSWIM? In fact the fertility book that I am reading at the moment reccommends that you make sure you do it at off-peak times as well, just so that sex doesn't become solely about making babies.

We do it less often during the TWW, but when we do it tends to be more fun, cos there's less pressure .

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the welcomes! WhiteRoses - it's a difficult one but I would be tempted to go for both the promotion and the TTC and see what happens. I don't think that there's ever a really convenient time, workwise, to TTC. You don't need to tell your colleagues though! I made the mistake of mentioning to my boss at the start of the year that we might be planning a family next year (can't remember why I thought this was a good idea). He looked embarrassed and said something about me being too young (I'm 30!) and said how he was over 40 when his daughter was born. It has not been brought up again (thank goodness)...

Muser sorry AF got you...it's pants I know. Just make sure you enjoy your christmas becuase it wont be long ok!

Whiteroses and Claire and Yorkshire am now in the same nervy state as you 3 imagine, having probably ov'd middle of last week... I went through about 4 packs of clear blue last month so determined not to make that mistake again. I was so disappointed though as I had spotting 8 days after EWCM and so thought bingo in month 1!! Alas, was not to be. Slightly more circumspect this month I guess.

Very sympathetic on the employment front - my personal view is that you can't put your personal life on hold for work purposes. It feels wrong but ultimately if you really plan to come back then it doesn't matter. The brutal reality is that business will always come first so you need to look after you own interests...

Muser · 29/11/2009 20:32

Thanks everyone. I'm kind of ok really. I was very disappointed but it'll happen. And I'd feel stupid being really upset in cycle 2 when I know some people have been waiting far longer. So I'm just going to pick up and start again. There's going to be a lot more sex next month though. Oh yes.

pixiestix · 30/11/2009 09:06

Muser - sorry AF got you. I am the same as you - absolutely gutted every single month even though I know that there are people out there who have been trying for years. I am on cycle 6 now and naively never thought that it would take this long. If this is only the beginning of the TTC journey I can't bear it!

WhiteRoses - that is a bit of a tricky situation. I too would feel guilty as hell in that position but I do think that you would be better off trying to have your cake and eat it! I waited for about a year to "settle in" to my new job, thinking that April 2010 would be a good time to go off on maternity leave - no such luck! I will be lucky if I manage a 2010 baby at all at this rate! So say yes to the promotion, and its sods law you will get pregnant immediately

Well, in my news, I have started with the Clearblue Monitor this month. Its quite exciting to be actively doing something every day to get pg - but a bit demoralising when it flashes up "fertility levels low" every morning! I know thats pretty standard in the first half of the month but I still want to see it screaming PEAK FERTILITY at me!!

Kaloki I hope things settle down for you. It might be worth going to GP anyway and see what they say?

Welcome HypotheticalMummy! Congratulations on starting TTC! If you give us your details we can put you on the list, you can see if you have any 'cycle buddies' or folk who are on the same cycle length and cycle day as you

If you like, it's:

TTC#1 Cycle (how many months have you been TTC to date) UCL (usual cycle length) and CD (cycle day - how many days since the first day of your period, or AF as it's usually known here)

Lots of luck!

Ok - I am swimming in neurosis having never done this before so help...

It feels like my period is about to start (a crampy tummy, constipation, frequent urination, a sore back - all of which I get when my time of the month rolls around) but its way to early for my period to start! Is it possible these are the early symptoms of pregnancy or am I just about to get a nasty suprise 2 weeks to soon?

I may be joining you all again. I had a bleeding scare over the weekend. I had been spotting brown last week and wasn't too concerned about it since it was very light and I had no cramps. Saturday night when I went pee, the bleeding came out a bit heavier and more red in color. I also had some cramps. Sunday morning when I woke up I had a little bit more bleeding and a clot. No cramps or bleeding for the rest of the day, just some brown when I wiped. No bleeding again today. I went to the doctor this morning to do blood work to test my HCG levels and I am going tomorrow morning for my scheduled first appointment however it doesn't look like it is going to be a joyous visit anymore. I should hear back with the blood test results today in the next few hours.

Thanks aly. I really have no clue what is going on. I talked to the nurse this morning and she said really it can go either way and couldn't give me a definite answer.

I am still temping and my temps are still up. I don't know if that means anything but it makes me just a little hopeful.

Oh sevans, I'm so sorry if it turns out to be what it sounds like . But, bleeding in the first few weeks pf PG is quite common, so I really hope it is nothing too serious (will be thinking of you).

Welcome to Eleanora and HypotheticalMummy

Lovely to hear from you Yorkshire, can't believe you're almost 20 weeks gone, time really has flown by. Take care of yourself and I (we) look forward to hearing your next update.

Kkas - hope you enjoyed your day skiving off

Kaloki - hope things start to settle down for you soon.

Calyx - I would say sex other than TTC sex would be a gooood thing

Pixie - keep us up to date with the monitor, I haven't gone down that route yet and it's always interesting to hear how other people get on with things first.

Hello to everyone else AF coming to an end for me, so now the real fun begins...

Sevans, really sorry to hear about the bleed, am keeping everything crossed that its just a 'normal' bleed and everything remains ok.

Hello HypotheticalMummy and Eleanora, welcome aboard. HypotheticalMummy your symptoms sounds almost exactly the same as mine. I've had funny cramps for almost a week now and AF is still a couple of days away. I believe they can be symptoms of pregnancy, but I tested yesterday and got a BFN, so I'm assuming its long range PMT. Hope yours is an indication of better things.
