Come on in ladies, the bar is fully stocked with Advocaat, Bailey's and novelty Xmas drinkies and the slaves are wearing Ann Summer 'Santa's Hat' posing pouches. Have also festooned the place with plenty of festive tat and lots of v un-eco and tacky Xmas lights and shit because I know we all love getting Xmassy dead early. There's a fireplace so you can send your wish list to Santa up the chimbley, platters of wooden spoons and coconuts on the mantlepiece and 'Mulled Wine' scented candles lighting up The Pit of Despair. Make yourselves at home!

Hi all, must catch up properly bur for now sorry to dora and cho. Stiff drink?

medee I keep thinking that about school - then rememeber I'm a Scot living in England, and don't actually know/understand how things work down here, just that it's less straighforward, with funny numbers for the school years and a winter primary 1 intake

Being a January baby, I was one of the young uns at school. Started in August at 4 1/2 and it never did me any harm. I never struggled to keep up with the older ones. Indeed, it meant I went to uni at 17 and graduated at 21 (lovely 4 year degrees in Scotland). It was only really a pain when loads of others had driving licences while still at school.

why do people think English summer babies suffer at school?

CurlyCasper · 26/11/2009 17:27

sorry welcome loony and good to have you back scorpaline mmmmwaaahhh!

Medee · 26/11/2009 17:31

CC - the youngest you will start school in Scotland is 4.5, like you. Ie born at the end of Feb, start in August. But because the cut off is August in England, children can start at 4 years and 1 month, which seems really little to me, and "they" reckon that year can be significant, esp for boys.

CurlyCasper · 26/11/2009 17:37

wow I didn't realise they started them that young. thanks medee.

VeryAngryGusset · 26/11/2009 17:42

think that should be, am not Winnie The Pooh.

VeryAngryGusset · 26/11/2009 17:43

Scorps, can you flamenco to Fernando's Hideaway (ole)?

Scorpette · 26/11/2009 17:45

Curlers, it's cos the intake for each school year goes 1st September - 31st August. Thus, with my Oct b-day, I was one of the oldest in my year, whereas my bro, with his July b-day, was one of the youngest. I have an MA, he doesn't, thus thick summer baybee theory proved!

PS I want people to stop pluralising with apostrophes almost as much as I want a baybee. Is this wrong?

OP posts:
Scorpette · 26/11/2009 17:47

VAG, just crank up the 'Y Viva Espana'; I'm not proud

PS 'Fernando's Hideaway' - is that what they call Mr Hankey's Hole in Spain?

OP posts:
CurlyCasper · 26/11/2009 17:49

no, scorps it is not wrong. It is very much right, correct and sane. Apostrophes for possession and missing letters only please... but not required for demonic possession.

However I am fearful that MN has drawn me into multiple exclamation and question mark use, which is very wrong. My journalism teachers would be ashamed

VeryAngryGusset · 26/11/2009 17:50

Sorry Scorps, I'm busy right now

CurlyCasper · 26/11/2009 17:52

At risk of causing a flounce, are you saying my child is going to be a ficko?

Scorpette · 26/11/2009 17:56

No! Just saying my brother is a drongo, that's all (4 weeks on and no birthday pressie from him, grrr)

OP posts:
CurlyCasper · 26/11/2009 17:58

Bad and wrong. Can we unleash some BESH violence on him for ya?

ClaireDeLoon · 26/11/2009 18:02

The spoon under the bed thing, what type of spoon do I need?

Scorpette · 26/11/2009 18:05

Please do. But don't be put off by his face - he is a very pretty boy (double grrr). He's on FB all the time talking about the new guitar and jacket he bought and his friends are thanking him for various presents, but apparently he has neither the time or the funds to send his own fucking sister a measly £15 Amazon voucher (which is what he always gets me). And I want to use it towards Xmas pressies too (not my Secret Santa one, mind). Arseface.

Scorpette I did NOT say I was starting to conceive young or old. All I said was I was 30. I was actually trying to get a bit of perspective and get over myself.

I shall just go somewhere else and say nothing if I can't say anything right.

Scorpette · 26/11/2009 20:18

It's a flouncerama! Come on Muser, let's start stamping in unison I prolly did go overboard a bit, so am sorry. If you think TTC is hellish at 30, you should try it at 37 TTC years are like dog years once you're over 30 and even more so over 35; it feels about as hopeless as being 60-odd and the trying seems to take 7 years each month . I know babyfail is a bastard at every age - here, have some random violence I saved you a special one there

OP posts:
ClaireDeLoon · 26/11/2009 20:27

Muser I don't want to speak for Scorpette but really don't take things to heart. It really is fucking horrible to be long term ttc and to see everyone around you getting pregnant, no matter how much you like them it hurts like hell because it's not a case of thinking 'oh well that will be us soon' it's a case of thinking it will just never happen and that's a heartbreaking thing to think. Particularly when you're the wrong side of 35 and the odds are against you. Honestly don't get upset or hurt by things people say when they're going through a difficult time.

Sorry if anyone thinks my post is out of order, I feel a bit like I'm wading into territory that I shouldn't be in as a thread newbie.

ClaireDeLoon · 26/11/2009 20:28

oops massive cross post error sorry

ClaireDeLoon · 26/11/2009 20:29

Cosmosis · 26/11/2009 20:40
