Just popped in to say Congrats to Fifi, splendid news! Especially like the one off BD thing - I could fit in with that regime! Anyone see the Zhai Clinic article in today's Guardian - pretty amazing success rates especially with 'older mothers' but its not cheap and the full TCM treatment is not such an easy ride. I'd be very tempted if I thought for one second DP would actually stick the programme. Big hugs to you Kiwi my DP is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard when it comes to making ttc related lifestyle changes.

Hi everyone. I'm on day 20 today. Started using the progesterone gel on day 18 to try to extend the old Luteal Phase. Am now at the point where I have to keep going for a wee just so i can check for spotting - arrgghh - it's driving me mad but I can't stop doing it. In fact, excuse me a sec.................................................... OK Still no spotting - hooray .

Hi to all the new ladies and the lady returning - well done for having your last baby at 42 - go for it girl!

Evening all - yes, DH and I are friends again, but we stay well away from any discussion of alcohol. Hippy, did you have to get a prescription for your progesterone gel? Is there a quicker way to get it? It takes ages to get an appointment to see my specialist. Can a GP prescribe it?

Hope you're all well. Come on number 3!

mabh · 28/10/2009 13:06

Hello heron nice to meet you. Tell me us about your youngest...looks like you had him at my age! Give me optimisim!

...ok, it's rude to snatch, I know, but...

ILoveGregoryHouse · 28/10/2009 19:01

Hi all, just popping in to see how everyone is doing. Can't cut and paste for some reason so can somebody more competent than me add me to the list

Age 40, CD17 (possibly), ttc #4

On the 2ww and need to be physically restrained from the clearblue.

Good luck with the knicker patrol hippychick.

cece · 28/10/2009 22:51

hello heron and rowingboat,
I see you are both on the TTC rollercoaster again. Hope you are both well. I now have a 5 month old DS (in addition to my older two)and have decided to stop at the ripe old age of 42! Good luck to you though. and all of you other ladies too.

heron22 · 29/10/2009 08:13

hi mabh i had acupuncture at zita west clinic when i was ttc DS2. so have you thought about acupuncture?

hi cece how are you? your LO is 5 months old? bless how is she/he? my LO is 9 months old already! not ttc now, but DH keeps asking me to go for another! dont know if i am ready though. it is a lot of work with the 2 we already have!

heron22 · 29/10/2009 08:19

cece what is it like having 3? how old are your other 2?

cece · 29/10/2009 11:30

At the moment 3 is great. But my other two are both school age, 6 and 8, so I have quieter week days!

thefatladyscreams · 29/10/2009 13:55

heron - do you think the acupuncture helped you? I'm curious as I'm using it at the moment.

AF arrived yesterday late. I was strangely relieved as I had been very lightly spotting for 3 days so IF I had been pregnant, I was worrying something was already wrong (if you can follow my strange logic). I used to always have a 28 day cycle but it shortened to 24 days post m/c. This was a 30 day cycle so not sure if my body is still trying to straighten itself out. Don't know if anyone has any experience of this?

kiwi - glad things are OK. Just a thought, I sometimes struggle that my DH doesn't understand my sense of urgency re TTC as I'm getting older. At one level, he understands fertility decreases with age but at another he seems to have a "it will all come out in the wash" attitude. I find sticking an article in front of him to read in black and white can help. Just wondered if your DH saw that recent article about the dramatic effect drinking had on IVF outcomes (appreciate it was IVF but it made me think about general TTC as well). Sorry if this is raking up old ground. Mind you [TFLS whispers], I did celebrate/commiserate AF's arrival with some wine last night

rowingboat · 29/10/2009 15:06

Hi everyone,
Heron and Cece it's good to hear from you and to hear your LOs are doing so well.
Cece, that sounds like hard work 6,8 and a baby.
My DS just turned 5 and still no sign of number two. I think we can pretty much conclude that both tubes are blocked or damaged too much. We have been trying IVF, but no luck so far. We have to go back for another cycle in December if things go to plan.
It's a pain really, although I am very busy and do lots of stuff with the other mums and the nursery, plus still work part-time, so it all keeps me very busy and generally very happy.
Hi to the new people: ILGH, Bluebell and Modern
Kiwi I'm glad to hear the dust has settled on winebottle-gate. What's the latest news?
TFLS how is the cold, has the acupuncture helped?
Oh and weird AF story of the week (Harry Hill music) having started AF on the 7th of October I then started AF again on day 18 and it is still going today. Also having occasional stabbing pains in region of ovaries. Do you think cysts? Anyone. Should I get this checked do you think?
Wah?
I bet it was that stupid red clover I took, supposed to help my cold a bit and as a general pick-me-up.

rowingboat · 29/10/2009 23:48

Hellooooo, where is everybody?

SummerSky · 30/10/2009 07:57

Hi Rowing that sounds so plantive. I think it's because it's half term. I haven't been on because I've no news and DD has been occupying me. Kiwi Hope it's sorted now with your DH I do feel for you, getting them on board is truly a task in itself. I think we can all empathise with that.
TFS spotting before AF is a progesterone problem I think I remember - B6.
Ghengis sorry not been in touch will be back to normal soon. We've booked one of those last minute deals so we're off to find the sun for a few days (not that it's been bad here)
Not sure I Ov'd this month chart is a bit erratic and no CM still Chinese Doc says stop thinking about it, easy to say.
Just a quick blast from me as have to go and pack - I'm always resistant to it.
Hello to all the newcomers and returners
Happy Halloween

cece · 30/10/2009 08:16

Hi rowingboat,
sorry to hear you've had no luck so far. But you do sound pretty positive.

mabh · 30/10/2009 09:42

Hello rowing and others - sorry, don't post much in the evenings as DH hogs the pc! I'm on day 26 of a 30/31 day cycle and am finding this is where I go quiet... potential excitement being replaced by pessimism.

Some people on the Bus have CBFMs and I am thinking that if/when AF lands this time I will go and get one. Not that I've been trying that long (and believe me I do feel for those of you that have) but rather I have no proof I'm fertile (no other DCs) and can't afford to hang about time-wise, like the rest of us.

Still, I'm looking forward to the weekend and hoping that AF doesn't start to show!

heron22 · 30/10/2009 10:52

hello all!

hi tfls yes i think the acupuncture really helped me. i went to a reputable clinic.
how long have you been having acupuncture?

cece 3 kids sounds like a lot of work! but rewarding

modernart · 30/10/2009 12:36

Have you seen this in today's the Guardian? Stay still girls!

beaufies · 30/10/2009 12:48

Hi Folks

I posted on a 40's thread a while ago when I was 39 and 3/4 but am now officially 40 and nearly two months so thought I would pop back and share some of my story so far...

Aged 38 I conceived my DS through IUI using tamoxifen. DH and I had been trying for two years previously and had extensive tests confirming that we were both 'normal' with no issues identified. We went to a private clinic as I didn't want IVF and on our third attempt we were successful :-) DS was born happy and healthy and has just celebrated his first birthday.

Due to my advancing years as soon as I stopped breast feeding at six months we started trying again and after 4 months decided to go back to the clinic. Again, more tests confirmed that I still bhad time to give IUI a go and we had our first cycle of treatment, again using tamoxifen this month.

Well, I'm feeling very confused now and please bear with me as this is going to sound rather complicated. We were told to test last Saturday (2 weeks after the IUI)which I did using an access diagnostics 25miu 'dip into a sample' test. It was negative. As I still hadn't had my period I tested again on Tuesday using an Access Diagnostics 10miu 'dip into a sample' test. This was positive but as the line was fainter than the control line I decided that I would leave it a while and try again as I thought is was inconclusive. Last night I decided to test again, this time using a Tesco 'pee on the stick' it was slow to develop but it was postive. I did another - it was the same. I then tested again using the orginal 25mui 'dip' test and it was negative. On the packet of these it specifically says that the result is only positive if the line is as dark or darker than the control line but it was fainter. I tested again this morning - same thing. I should say that the 25mui tests all came in a batch of ten. Could I have a duff batch ?

So am I pregnant or not, or am I pregnant but there is something wrong ?

All the other signs say I am - needing to pee more frequently, bloated abdomen slightly fuller boobs and am now on day 38 of my cycle which has only been longer than this on one occasion in four years of trying - my first cycle post breast feeding.

I guess the other thing making me doubt is that what are the chances of conceiving on the first IUI attempt aged 40 ?!

I just don't know what to think but can't think of anything else right now and it's driving me nuts, wondering if I am, worrying that there is a problem - what do you think ?

Thanks everso

PS I will post some of this on an assisted conception thread too

mabh · 30/10/2009 13:57

beauflies I am no expert but didn't want your post to remain unanswered. Do you think that the 25ones might be a duff batch? I always thought that a positive is a positive, no matter how faint.

Is it worth getting a gp appointment, given your history? Not knowing must be very frustrating.

Good Luck and let us know how you get on

ILoveGregoryHouse · 30/10/2009 16:22

Hi beaufies, seems like it could be a dodgy batch. I would go to my GP and get bloods done - they can do the HCG levels from that, right?

Okay, having a weird fluttering sensation just above my pubic bone/just below my appendix scar. Had it yesterday evening and today. It like when you get eyelid twitches but "bigger" iyswim. Any ideas? Implantation (it's day 7 post ov)?

beaufies · 30/10/2009 16:35

Update

I got a clearblue digital test with conception indicator and got a Positive with conception 2-3 weeks ago. It will be three weeks ago tomorrow so it's bang on

I can't quite believe it...fingers crossed that it stays put....

cece · 30/10/2009 16:35

with my last baby all the tests i did came back so faint that you could barely see the line. however, i was indeed pg! he is now 5 months old and sitting on my lap. never did get a 'proper' positive line...

mabh · 30/10/2009 17:17

beauflies excellent! Now blow some luck in our direction, please!
