Beffy · 10/06/2009 21:23

Thankyou everyone for being so welcoming and supportive. So this is cd3 for me then? Does anyone know if clomid can kick start things and even without the clomid this month could i get a bfp? We can only wish....
Good luck everyone!!!! xxx

clairebear88 · 11/06/2009 10:49

Hi all

Lucy grif - sounds promising any little things that happen so good luck

Beffy - I had the same scenario last week when I thought I was pregnant and BF had just got BFP. So we would have been due within 2 weeks of eachother. BUT I got a BFN and sadly she mc so it just wasnt meant to be. Chin up and hope AF arrives soon. Clomid does kick start things and it is definately possible to fall straight after coming off it or having a break from it.

Isle - You will have to give me the info about IUI as I think thats the next step after clomid for us. Good luck with it and hope you have a lovely anniversary.

Hope everyone is having a good week
x

lucygrif · 11/06/2009 11:44

not really breaking news but I had to get up in the night to go to the toilet which I NEVER do - not sure I can wait another week!!!

islegrin · 11/06/2009 16:41

Clairebear aww, thanks! IUI is pretty easy and nearly painless - we've been on different protocols Clomid alone, clomid with Menopur, letrozole and menopur, letrozole and gonal-f, then they scan you at CD 10 to see how many follies are developing, check their size and check the uterine lining thickness. Then depending on what they find, they let you grow them a couple more days and tell you when to take a trigger shot of Ovidrel (HCG) then 36 hours later you go in for IUI. DH goes in 30 mins before to give them his "sample" they spin it and "wash" it to get down to the best sperm and fill a long catheter. Then they insert that catheter into your uterus to give the best chance of conception. In two minutes the whole procedure is done with only cramping to show for it. Then the dreaded two week wait commences and viola!

lucygrif (oh I just misstyped that as lucky!!!) And that's exactly what I hope you are!!!

lucygrif · 12/06/2009 09:37

Thanks islegrin - how are you getting all these tests/drugs etc? Have you gone private? My NHS simply gave me Clomid for 3 months at 50mg then told me to come back and they doubled the dose but not had any scans etc and now I have finished the 6 months they are telling us we have to pay for IVF/IUI!!
Does anyone know what the success rates are for IUI? I have been told they are not as good but I read on the net that it's equally as effective as IVF but cheaper and less invasive!! Confused now.

Hiya

Lucy- hold on till nearer the time I know its hard but try x
I think it depends on your problems as to whether they try IUI first. I have heard it cheaper and less hassel so they may try that 1st. I have been checked out and have no PCOS or other problems so its just me not getting pregnant so IUI may do the trick. I read that certain areas of the UK are doing 6 trys at IVF free of charge ( inc my area ) so its probably a postcode lottery which is terrible. Ill try and dig that artcle out and try and do a link

Isle - Thats sounds ok, thanks for putting my mind at rest. I have been having internal scans around day 9-13 anyway so used to being prodded and poked . I still have 2 months left on clomid and reacon they will try the hcg shot with it as long as the follicles are big enough. Im also hoping if we do have IUI that DH swimmers are ok as had 2 tests done 6 months apart and 1st one was low 18mill and 2nd one (nov 08 ) was 35mill.
Good luck with yours and keep us updated

Gonna be lovely at the weekend so have a good one girls

IUI success rates range up to 20-25% for each round. We've decided to go 6 months of IUI in part due to success rates, less invasive, and cost. But we took a month off due to my travelling (without DH). My doc usually goes 3-4 months of IUI before progressing to IVF. I have one blocked tube, so my chances are cut way down because of that, and of course the blocked tube has the most prolific ovary.

I've heard that IVF success rates are closer to 40% each round.

Health care system is different here in Hawaii, IUI cost us about 600-800 USD each round. The first round of IVF is covered, but any additional attempts cost a lot. I've heard 25,000 USD or so. I do have to say that I have excellent care though - there is no waiting period, my nurse has returned every call I've made within just a few hours whenever I have questions and they've even opened on Saturday just for us to complete one IUI. The money part is a kick in the pants, but if I actually get pg - I wouldn't care at all. If not, I'll be a bit sour about the money spent for no result.

I just found out that one of my bosses spent $8000 on fertility to get their second child, so it does effect quite a few people who are in your everday life.

Clure · 12/06/2009 18:19

Hi all,

Had such a busy and stressful week last week that haven't managed to get on for a few days. Nice to see you back islegrin, tetley (cycle buddy) and lucygrif.
lucygrif my friend started the IUI process and managed to get pregnant immediately, I guess as islegrin said it depends on your personal situation.

Just a quick question to you all, when would be the EARLIEST you could do a pregnancy test?

Hoping you're all well xx

Beffy · 12/06/2009 20:02

Hi all!

clairebear Thanks for the info, the bleeding from the mc stopped yesterday which i was quite surprised about, it only lasted about 3 days! So i'm back on a mission now! That is a coincidence about you and your bf, am sorry to hear of her mc and your bfn when you had got your hopes up. My bf, the one who is pregnant now had a mc the mth before so it just shows this time next mth we could all have a BFP!!!!

I don't know how to add mtself to the list but this would be CD5 for me.

clure i think the earliest you can do a hpt is 6 days before you are due af if you get a first response one!! Good luck!!

Good luck everyone!! Positive thoughts!!! xx

stac14 · 12/06/2009 21:49

Hey ladies
How are you all?

clure think your better off waiting till your late cos the ones you can use early are only 40% acurate.

I'm at the consultant on Monday afternoon so all the info about IUI has been great although don't think he will go straight to that, but who knows lol

What you all up to this weekend? They are predicting rain in Scotland so hope they are wrong as there is a fun day thing on for the kids and dp's son is in a play at it.
Hope your all well xxx

lissie we look as though we might be cycle buddies, how long is your cycle normally? mine is 30 days but the clomid has been making it slightly longer for some reason, which might mean i have to wait even longer to test!! ARGH!

lucygrif · 13/06/2009 11:38

islegrin - HAWAII??? lucky thing

Clure · 14/06/2009 10:43

stac14 · 14/06/2009 13:30

hey ladies
how are you all today? lucygrif I haven't taken a hpt as I am at the consultant tomorrow and my cd 21 bloods said no ovulation but I have a letter from my gp to go see the practice nurse tomorrow to have my bloods done again so not sure what that means, trying not to test as I cant stand the disappointment. Any news from anyone else? xxxx

frida5 · 14/06/2009 13:33

frida5 · 14/06/2009 13:34

*sex sory typd sez by mistake

stac14 · 14/06/2009 18:29

hi frida you may be having an implant bleed, a pregnancy test would be negative at the moment as its too soon to test, you would have to wait till your period is late before you test, hope that helps

frida5 · 14/06/2009 18:47

thnx...

islegrin · 14/06/2009 19:25

Congrats Aunty Clure!!!

Funny - what so many of us want and have to struggle for, there are so many others that end up pg accidentally and/or aren't happy about it. That's why I support adoption as much as possible, even though it's hard, it does give wonderful opportunities to those involved. If the cost was more reasonable to adopt, DH and I might not even be going through fertility treatment.
