Hi Dawn

My goodness you really have been put through the mill ... it will make your attachment bond with this wee one so much stronger when she is born! All these tests can be really quite scary, sometimes I wonder if its better to just wait till delivery - although I know ppl opt to have them done! Thats great everything is ok tho and u where given the all clear. The things is, you will love your wee child no matter what - it's just thankful that wee kiddies with Additional Needs have good parents to support them through it! As I say tho, great your wee one is good and healthy!

I am gd thanx - I have no patience at all, so this is like complete torture 2 me! LOL

At Christmas time I was not feeling great, quite sicky etc so I carried out a Clearblue and it showed up positive! I had never been so excited in all my life, my partner and I where just truly overjoyed! I then organised GP visit etc to get the ball rolling ... but then it all went wrong and the GP said I had a 'chemical pregnancy' - a very very early miscarriage! I was gutted about it and it took me a gd bit to pick myself up again!

So thats why i bought the monitor, I really wanted to ensure I was ov ok and my cycle was on track! So far, so good! Just really hoping and praying it will all work out for me soon!

My goodness, look at how much I have typed! You should have popped the kettle on before reading my posting!

xx

PistachioLemon · 17/04/2009 15:43

MAF I'm so sorry to hear that, you must be so disappointed. I'm sorry I don't know much about what you're going through, but can they do the IUI if the follicles are large enough next week? (Sorry if that's a really ignorant question).

Dawn, you are amazing. I hope if I ever get pg that I can deal with it half as well as you have. Not long to go now! Apart from the birth are you excited about meeting little jelly?

Vix are you feeling any better yet? My cold/throat infection seem to be getting better finally thank God but it's so boring being ill and I can't wait to be back to normal!

TLC and NewMember welcome nad good luck! You have joined a lovely thread here.

Crunchy hope your revision class went well and the MS wasn't too bad. Have you managed to see your doctor and arrange an early scan? Hope you're feeling better soon.

DawnAS · 17/04/2009 16:50

Hello all,

Ooooh Hever, I hadn't heard about being given the epidural early, but I'm darn well going to ask about that when I see my MW!! The quicker I join "Epidural girls unite" the better as far as I'm concerned!! Strange you say about putting things into perspective though, because I feel the same about TTC. When I hear about all the problems that people have and the heartache that they feel month on month, I feel so grateful that it happened quickly for us. I'm just hoping that those that have to wait, have trouble-free PGs because then they'll know that the wait was definitely worth it!! I have to admit that I had a bit of a moment in the early hours of this morning when I was hopping around the room with bloody cramp in my leg and feeling sorry for myself. I crept into Jelly's room and looked at all her furniture and clothes and then went back to bed feeling warm and fuzzy again. This PG thing has its ups and downs doesn't it?!!

MAF, I'm so sorry honey, it looked like things were going so well earlier in the week... I'm a bit clueless about IUI TBH and like Pistachio, could do with a bit of a science lesson when you feel up to it (not suggesting Pistachio that you're clueless at all - I am!!). I hope that things look better next week...

Pistachio, thanks for your kind words. I am very excited about meeting Jelly and trying not to concentrate on the birth situation too much, since it is going to be pretty much out of my control if I have to be induced. So I'm just thinking of the outcome. But the lovely thing for me, is that DH's family never expected him to get married or have DC, he was never the type. But since meeting me he has changed so much and is actually getting very impatient to meet her, he wants her NOW!! Actually, I'll never forget a bit of the Best Man's speech at our wedding, DH's BF said "Love is like wind (stick with me on this girls, there is a point!!), you can't see love, but you can see the effects of love. From the minute (DH) met (Dawnas), we could all see love's effects. The way he looked at her, the way he spoke about her and the way he behaved around her". And the bit I remember most, is all his family nodding and smiling like they totally understood what the BF was saying. I'm the same with DH now when he talks about Jelly, not necessarily to me, but to his family and friends. He is all smiles and is so excited he just wants her here so that he can hold her. It's so lovely to see.

Anyway, I really must stop gushing - you lot will be bringing back your lunch/dinner!!

Big waves to everyone else popping on for their Friday night fill of MN!!

What plans has everyone got for the weekend?

summerbird · 17/04/2009 17:11

Hey guys i have been a bit quiet for a few days and have caught up on loads so apologies if i miss anyone out!

dawn i just read about your scan, that jelly isnt breech anymore and you dont get the c-section, and will be keeping my fingers crossed that your labour will go as amoothly as it can. i agree with hever that you should fight for the epidural (as a club member myself!!) as you need all the assistance you can get. your DH sounds like a sweetheart and so will be there for you.

MAF crapola about your follies, like dawn i dont know much about this - but hope that it works out for you. Do they chnge size at all?? Can it vary from week to week???

bubba ditto with the scan experience - my first scan appointment was 8.45 and i drank the obligatory litre of water and they kept me peeing my pants for over an hour!! then i had to wait about the same in the midwife room afterwards so we were in there for 3 hours too. Bliddy NHS!!

welcome newmember and TLC we always get over excited when we get new TTCers as us PG ladies just cant leave this thread as it is so friendly, but we want to hear more TTC stories of knicker checking and BD on OV dates!!

yoo hoo pistachio and vix kay and all the other lovely ladies - big waves and baby dust for all

makingafamily · 17/04/2009 18:09

Hey again ladies

Hello to the newbies. Welcome, this really is the most amazing thread

Crunchy doing revision with your yr11's in the Easter Hols is fab, i hope all went well

Vix Sorry about your BFN. But thats really good that they've ruled out PCOS. I hope you stick around after you get your BFP through IVF coz then you can hold my online hand through it, if i get there? Although saying that u can squeeze another few IUI's in first and get your BFP before IVF. I've got everything crossed for you

Bubba I hope you've had a lovely time sharing your news with friends and family

Dawn Jelly sounds like she's thriving and i'm so excited for hun

PL So sorry about your BFN. Lets be positive frolickers together eh?

Here goes a science lesson in iui fertility! (Funny enough i think this will be easier explaining this to you ladies then it was to my dad earlier lol!)

I'm doing a natural cycle of IUI, so not having any fertility drugs. They time when to do the IUI by you monitoring your cycle by peeing on sticks and when you get a positive OPK you go in 24 hours later for the IUI. My clinic also scan you (with the dildocam!) to measure your follicle size and your womb lining and if they scan you and you have a follicle of 17mm+ and a womb lining of 7mm + they give you an injection that triggers ovulation and then give you IUI the following day

Follicles grow at about 2mm per day. When you do natural cycles you should only have a few follicles with one much larger than the others

So basically i went in today and i have "multiple" folicles (they wouldnt even tell me how many!)and none of them have gone over 10mm (on monday although i had 3 follies it looked like i had a lead one that was already 10mm and was going to keep growing, but it hasn't ) and my womb lining hasn't thickened

The consultant was talking about starting next month with medication but i explained sometime i ov late. I'm not abandoning this month unless i really have too (Don't want to waste a £280 vial of spunk! but am still holding out hope that i will ovulate)

I've looked at my diary from last year when we were trying with the boys and found that on 3 occasions i didn't ov til day 26 so fingers crossed thats whats happening this month

Am hoping that hasn't made things more confusing!

makingafamily · 17/04/2009 18:11

And too make things worse i was so upset and pissed off when i left i went the clinic i got a double shot latte and i had a ciggarette! And tonight i have a lovely bottle of Rose bubbles i'm going to drink. So am now officially a bad TTC'er

Kay4MattTTC · 17/04/2009 19:06

evening all.

summerbird: thankQ for the baby dust

Vix67 · 17/04/2009 19:54

Hi Ladies

Hope you're all enjoying your Friday night!!

MAF sorry about your follicles hun, so do they charge for the extra scans?? I think you could be right about ov late, so Ill keep my fingers tightly crossed for you. I used clomid with my IUI cycle so not sure what would have happened with a natural cycle. And of course I'll stick around WHEN i get my BFP!! I don't think I could ever leave this thread now!!

Bubbap great news about ur scan going well, even if the hospital were naff!!

Hope all you pregnant ladies are relaxing and looking forward to meeting your babbas, not long now!!

And welcome to all newbies , have a great weekend everyone xxxx

DawnAS · 17/04/2009 20:00

Hey all,

MAF, you explained that very well and WOW I didn't know ANY of that!! I really hope that you're right and that you are just OVing late - fingers crossed for you hun for one nice long follicle around that time!!

Kay, hi honey!!

Summer, hiya sweet, how are you? How is the little Summerbean. I don't know about you but I'm starting to suffer a little with the kicking now. Jelly is particularly active tonight and almost made me feel sick while I was trying to eat my dinner... Poor DH had to keep his hand over her feet to calm her down to make sure I could keep my food in my stomach - little monkey!! Still loving the feelings but it is getting a bit much... Oh well, I'd better get used to it, she's obviously running out of space now! (Running being the operative word - )!!

Big waves to everyone else!!

crunchynutter · 17/04/2009 20:39

Hi all! My revision class went okay thank you everyone for asking i had two days of feeling okay and i'm back to feeling sick now!

SO I thought I would get your ladies opinions. What do you think about reusable nappies? I heard my SIL was using them and thought they were great so have looked them up and a lot of them are like the disposable eg. no dodgy folding tricks! but they look so soft and cute! the ones on mothercare world had some really good reviews too!

the thing is, they are expensive to start out but I think they will save money (and the planet ) in the long term- however, my DH thinks they will cost us more because of the washing machine

So ladies, cast your votes! xx

DawnAS · 17/04/2009 21:23

Hey Crunchy,

Glad the revision class went well!!

My BF also uses the reusable nappies and swears by them. Purely a cosmetic thing for me though, but one of the things I don't like about them is that they look HUGE on the babies and their bums look MASSIVE!! I told you it was cosmetic ... Although, I do think that they sometimes look quite uncomfortable for them too, they seem to crawl slightly uncomfortably with them on - but then maybe that's how her LOs crawled anyway, could be nothing to do with the nappies!!

We did look into it but decided that the disposable ones were a better option for us. Because I'm having to go back to work full-time when Jelly is 4 months old, I didn't want to spend my evenings and weekends just washing when I could be spending the time with her giving her loads of cuddles and kisses! Also, I was slightly worried about the cost of electricity for the washing machine being on so much... I think over a year, they only save you about £20 something like that...

As I said, my BF swears by them, but each to their own. If you fancy giving it a go, I've heard very few negative comments about them so go for it honey!! We've actually bought hundreds of disposable nappies already so we're covered for the first week at least - !!

Will be really interested to hear how you get on with them if you go down that route.

xxx

summerbird · 18/04/2009 10:44

crunchy i too would be interested to know how you get on if you do go for the reusable nappies. my friend used them and said they were fine. however i have memories of when my sisters were babies and i helped my mum with the terry nappies. you have to soak them in a bucket until you have enough to put a wash on and as dawn said it can be a non stop run of washing nappies (although they do look cute on the washing line!!).

i weighed up the ecological impact and felt that the amount of electricity we would use on the washing machine coupled with the amount of detergent we would use would be of almost the same impact to the environment.

However the plus point is that they will be much cheaper than disposables in the long run. As dawn has said - some people swear by them and like everything there are pros and cons.

MAF wow thanks for the science lesson, that is what i love about this website in that you learn so much about these things. I shall be sending you good vibes for HUGE follies!!! Oh and well done on the double latte, fags and vino - not that i am jealous!

dawn my little one is definitely a bit more active now, i thought it was due to my aqua natal class yesterday, it really is kicking me in the gut now - but i love it as i know it is happy and healthy

vox and pistachio really about your BFN's - do what i used to do and treat myself to a bottle of vino and some smoked salmon and any of the other forbiddens to cheer you up before the next month. I am sending you good baby vibes ///////

F**K! Now i'm freaking out!

Me and DP got very drunk last night, i had a cry and we decided to just try and chill and see how things go and go with the theory that i'm a late bloomer in the follicle department.

got up this morning with a horrible hangover, pee'd on the pee stick for the fertility monitor plugged it in and left it. A couple of hours later i pulled the pee stick out to put the monitor away and its gone to PEAK. So pee's on a digital OPK and got a smiley face!!! Pee's on two more OPK's and both positive!!! Spent an hour trying to get through to the fertility clinic but they are only open for scheduled treatment on saturday mornings so no receptionist. DP is at her mums.

Luckily our clinic is pretty much at the end of the road so i ran up there, fertility monitor in one hand and smiley face pee stick in the other and tried to get scanned. They couldnt scan me as no one available to do it but booked me in for an IUI on monday!!!!!

Yesterday i was told there were no decent size follies so am worried that i'm getting false positives on the OPK's! Is that possible???

Rant over

D x

heverhoney1 · 18/04/2009 13:30

Hey MAF sorry I cant be much help as I dont have a clue about this stuff but maybe its possible they missed one?

(P.S love the dildocam name - I was scanned once to see if I had PCOS and I know just what you are talking about lol xxx)
Good luck hope all goes brilliantly on monday xxxx

makingafamily · 18/04/2009 13:35

hever I started laughing on monday when i saw it

NewMember · 18/04/2009 15:14

Hi makingafamily

I am no expert on this, although I am using the Clearblue fertility monitor - I have carried out a little bit of research on it!

To get a positive, it means they have detected the hormone which means you MUST be ovultating. As far as i know, you cant get a negative positive with the ovulation tests!

Hope this helps

crunchynutter · 18/04/2009 20:15

I wrote a really long reply earlier and my computer crashed

MAF stay positive, it does sound very good with the fertility monitor but remember now you have your euro swimmers there is time- you don't want to wast all that money if perhaos the doctors feel next month might be luckier?? I'm not very clued up but I'd say go with your instinct! we all have everything crossed for you- you'll be a great mommy!!

WEll, you have all said pretty much what my mom and husband were thinking about the reusables with regards to the washing machine and stuff- we constantly do washing as it is and there's only two of us!

another sily question for you then... can you eat mozzerella when pregnant?? I didn't think the diet would bother me too much but my taste buds have gone all over the place lol however, i thought mozzerella was a soft cheese but DH is not sure- it's kiling me not having pizza!!

heverhoney1 · 19/04/2009 09:56

Crunchy I get confused too esp over Goats cheese as I LOVE IT!!!! so here is something I dug up from the "babycentre" Website -

Cheeses which are SAFE to eat in pregnancy

Hard cheeses:
Austrian smoked, Babybel, Caerphilly, Cheddar, Cheshire, Derby, Double Gloucester, Edam, Emmental, English goat's cheddar, feta, Gouda, Gruyere, Halloumi, Havarti, Jarlsberg, Lancashire, Manchego, Orkney, paneer, Parmesan, Pecorino (hard), Provolone, Red Leicester.

Soft and processed cheeses:
Boursin, cottage cheese, cream cheese, feta, goat's cheese without a white rind, mascarpone, mozzarella, Philadelphia, processed cheese (such as cheese spread), Quark, ricotta.

Yoghurts (all varieties), probiotic drinks, fromage frais, soured cream and crème fraîche - any variety, including natural, flavoured and biologically active - are all safe to eat.

Cheeses to AVOID in pregnancy

Mould-ripened soft cheeses:
Brie, Blue Brie, Cambozola, Camembert, Chaumes, chèvre (goats cheese with a white rind), Pont L'Eveque, Taleggio, Vacherin-Fribourgeois

Blue-veined cheeses:
Bergader, Bleu d'Auvergne, Blue Wensleydale, Shropshire Blue, Danish Blue, Dolcelatte, Gorgonzola, Roncal, Roquefort, Stilton, tomme, Wensleydale (blue).

Soft, unpasteurised cheese, including goat and sheep's cheeses:
Chabichou, Pyramide, Torta del Cesar.

(Its the Goats chese WITHOUT the rind I love- off to farmers market to source some within the hour!!!)

summerbird · 19/04/2009 11:30

good research hever me and DH went to a friends for dinner last night and the starter was warm camembert, i ended up giving in after 7 months of abstaining - it was bliss. i figured that at 33 weeks it cant do that much damage. HOWEVER crunchy at your early stage i would recommend going by the book as your bean is even more delicate.

MAF woo hoo on the positive OPK - again i am a bit clueless but you must be ovulating healthily so that is fantastic news, whether t be this month or next. you could be in line for a January babba just like i was

off to do more sanding - on a lovely sunny day too which is pants as i want to be sat in the garden

OP posts:
crunchynutter · 19/04/2009 17:13

Thanks Hever! i have just stuck to cheddar- so am i right in thinking mozzarella is a soft cheese but a safe soft cheese and it's really just mouldy cheese to avoid?? lol i'm getting scared over the tiniest of things! i've lost my appetite but then i'm ppanicking that i'm not eating enough, then i eat too much and feel sick! Any twinge i get in my stomach i'm convinced is something bad (although i have read that it's quite normal as things are 'stretching') i'm just drinking loads of mineral water at the moment and struggling to stay awake!! Summer I can't believe how far gone you are!! have you decided on names? it's all very exciting! xx

summerbird · 19/04/2009 20:36

crunchy everything you have just described is what i went through, it does get to a point when you do just think that everything is ok and to just go with it - but i have only just recently got to that stage! it is all perfectly natural. and yes Mozerella is fine, it is unpasteurised cheese you have to watch out for,

i know, i cant believe it myself, i only have just over 6 weeks to go and will be packing my hospital bag this week we have decided on either Ella May or William Henry - our surname is Summerfield so we thought they went really well. William is a popular family name on both sides but would be shortened to Will.

crunchynutter · 19/04/2009 21:40

Aww summer yopu have just made my night!! I will be ordering pizza soon i think!

thanks for not making me sound crazy- i'm driving myself mad nevermind my poor husband, he doesn't know whether to stay out of my way or give me loads of attention lol bloody mood swings!

I like your name choices- my best friends ddaughter is Ellie may and she's lovely! Are you still happy you didn't find out the sex? I keep changing my mind about whether id like to know or not! I can't believe how quickly your pregnancy seems to have gone though- I hope you are planning to put ppictures up when the little one is here bbecause I can't wait to see!!

heverhoney1 · 21/04/2009 12:42

PistachioLemon · 21/04/2009 14:54

Hello Hever, and hello everyone! Sun is indeed out, but I'm working away on something very very boring wish I was outside instead.

So what's up with everyone today? Distract me please.
