crunchy there are pros and cons to not finding out the sex. we are really pleased we made the decision not to find out even though we were all set to find out until the day before the scan! it has added to the excitement and we havent created any kind of personality for the babba. it is also fun having friends and family taking bets on what we are having and imagining what he/she will look like.

however on the other hand dawn does know that she is having a little girl and i can see the benefits to that too, she can buy clothes and pick toys etc and whenever she talks about her little girl i get all gooey for her!!

we are going to a wedding in august and i am stressing more about what the babba is going to wear rather than me for a change!! if it is a boy there is hardly anything smart in the shops whereas the girls things are beautiful!!

i say go with your gut instinct and dont be swayed by other people pressuring you to want to find out (as we did have which made me go the other way). you will know by your 20 week scan whether you want to know or not.

blimey i have rattled on a bit about that! i want to hear some TTC news now - MAF i am sorry i missed you on instant messaging the other day, what happened after your crazy weekend racing round London with huge follies???

and how is everyone else? all loving the sunshine i see

Hey ladies

Hope everyone's enjoying this lovely weather. We put our mini greenhouse up

Well, had a bit of a shit day yesterday. Spoke to the hospital in the morning and they agreed to scan me a few hours before IUI. The scan showed up "multiple" follicles but none of any significant size so thay said it would be a waste of a vial of sperm as they couldn't even confirm if i had had a viable egg. They're gone be putting me straight onto medicated cycles next month so bring on AF

heverhoney1 · 21/04/2009 21:30

Oh Summer I forgot to say about that article about the cheese - It also said as long as you cook it pretty much any cheese is ok (Has to be hot throughout)

heverhoney1 · 21/04/2009 21:31

MAF sorry to hear about your follies! but yeah for the medicated cycle next month and for saving your euro swimmers - fingers crossed for you

summerbird · 21/04/2009 21:50

MAF grr for the follies but come on the AF!! am sending you positive vibes

Is everyone enjoying the weather?

PistachioLemon · 22/04/2009 22:21

Hey MAF, I'm loving the weather long may it last!

How are your veggies getting on?

DawnAS · 23/04/2009 08:49

Hello all,

Hasn't it been quiet on here?!!

MAF, sorry about your follicles honey, roll on next month hey?!!

Hever, didn't know that about cooking the cheese. I'm thinking though, like Summer that by our stage, pretty much everything is Ok isn't it? I wanted to make a Chirizo and Red Pepper risotto on Saturday night for dinner, do you think that would be alright? Goodness knows how much insulin I'd need to take though with all that starch in it... Oh well - trial and error!! So, I think it's about time we started talking about your due date Hever AND we haven't had your shower yet, aren't you due in just over a week?!!

Crunchy, the only reason we found out the sex is, if I'm honest, I really wanted a girl. I know you shouldn't have a preference, but I think some people just naturally do. So I wanted time to get my head around it, if Jelly was going to be a boy. So if you have a preference, I would suggest finding out, if you haven't, I wouldn't. DH would have been happy not knowing as he didn't mind, but knew how much I wanted to know so went along with it. My two sisters brought around a load of their daughters baby clothes the other day, so yesterday I stood there ironing loads of little pink tops, trousers and dresses - it was so lovely!! I'm sure I won't be saying that though in 6 months time!!

Summer, how are you hun? Over 34 weeks now - scary but exciting all at the same time!! We really need to organise Hever's shower - she's due in just over a week!! I think we said we'd do a combined one with us, so how about this weekend some time?

Pistachio, how are you doing hun, it's quiet on here isn't it?!

So, I went through Jelly's nursery yesterday getting things sorted out and realised that we'd bought about 600 nappies altogether in sizes 1 through to 3. That should certainly keep us going for a while!! We've also got 10 9oz bottles and only 2 4oz ones (how did that happen?!) so I think we're ok for bottles too!! We've also got at least 10 packets of baby wipes, 5 packets of nappy bags and about 15 muslin squares. It's all go in our house!! Oooh, loads of bathing stuff aswell, bubble bath, top to toe wash, shampoo, talcum powder, baby oil and the best nappy rash cream EVER, two tubes of metanium cream (Hever and Summer - you might want to stock up in Asda - only £2.41 I think...). Even bought some Gripe Water (recommended by Mum - they really do know best after all!!).

Anyway, what a load of waffle!!

Big waves to everyone and loads of babydust to all our TTCers!!

heverhoney1 · 23/04/2009 12:45

Due next sat but no signs as yet. I have had 2 good things happen this week in relation to baby. The Health visitor came to visit yesterday - apparently its now policy they make 1 visit before your due date. She bought a load of leaflets and a book about baby's first 5 years. It looks like the pregnancy 1 thay gave at the beginning but it has all sorts in it from developmental stuff to childhood ilnesses, weaning and ideas for meals and play. The HV was also very nice and a lot less judgemental than I have found the midwives to be.

I also went to an anaesthetic class with the hospital anaesthetist - If you have a chance to go I would highly recommend it! There were 3 of us and we went through all the pain handling stuff- including water and tens. But the most useful bit was discussing what happened at c-sections. Both planned and emergency so I feel a lot more prepared should it come up. (She was also very supportive of the epidural! yeah!!)

heverhoney1 · 23/04/2009 13:42

Can I have opinions on the name Chloe? I dont know any Chloe's but apparently its been in the top 10 names for years (Maybe just not in this area) I really like it DP likes it and it is such a rare thing but I dont want to label her with a name that other people will see as overly common. I am already giving her my surname as a middle name (instead of double barrelled as its quite long! and I dont think it would be fair on her) so it would be -

Chloe Anne (my last name) (DPs Last name)

PistachioLemon · 23/04/2009 14:00

I love Chloe but it is really popular.

Having said that it doesn't seem to be chavvy popular (if you know what I mean)(in my area anyway), so as long as you don't mind there being other Chloe's around I don't think it matters.

Oh and I think Chloe Anne (your surname) (your DH's surname) is lovely. I'm planning to give any children my surname as a middle name too, it's easier than double-barrelled but keeps the connection with your family.

heverhoney1 · 23/04/2009 14:28

Thanks pistachio!! Yeah I know exactly what you mean, the chavvy bit is what I was worried about.

DawnAS · 23/04/2009 15:14

Hever, Absolutely LOVE the name Chloe!! I think it's lovely for a little girl. If you both like it, can see no reason for not having it and as Pistachio said, it's not chavvy at all - like Britney or Tiffany (no disrespect to anyone who chooses those names though - that's what watching too much Eastenders does to you... )!! Those classes sound brilliant aswell. We've got our hospital tour on the 11th May and hopefully we get to meet an anaesthatist there.

So, my news. Went to see MW today. Was really stressed out when I got there because I had a problem with my car. For some reason, every few seconds, even though I was driving, the car alarm was going off!! My GP surgery is in a quiet little village so it was really embarassing - would have expected my blood pressure to be sky high when I finally got to the surgery as I was so upset and stressed about it - I'm normally so level-headed!!

Anyway, I had my list of questions and decided to start with the one about the sickness phobia. Well as soon as I started to talk about it, I burst into tears!! My MW was brilliant though and realised by my instant reaction, just how serious it was for me. She told me to make sure that I mentioned it at the Induction so they could make preparations for it straight away and give me anti-sickness drugs. Although she did also say that in her opinion, it is quite rare for mothers to be sick during labour and it's normally drugs related. But she said that they will give me the anti-sickness drug with an epidural if I want it, but unfortunately it won't necessarily stop me feeling sick, but it will stop me BEING sick which is what I wanted. Most Emetophobes usually have a fear of being sick as opposed to feeling sick and will anything to stop themselves. So that will be fine for me.

So anyway, we then went on to discuss the induction. She said that as they are inducing me early, it could take three or four attempts to soften my cervix, so it could be a long boring hospital stay (I won't be allowed home because of the GD), so I could be in for a few days before labour gets going! But she said as soon as my cervix is open enough to (BEWARE TMI) get two fingers and a crochet type hook up there to break my waters, they will do it. She said as soon as that happens, they can give me the epidural straight away if I want it - before anything has really started!! So you were right Hever!! And she then said, don't listen to what anyone else says, if you want an epidural, you have one!!

She then measured my bump and listened to Jelly's heartbeat and had a feel around. She said that she was immensely pleased with Jelly's progress and was also impressed with how well I was controlling the GD as there was still no sugar in my urine. I almost thought she was going to put a big "Well Done" with a gold star on my notes!!

I have my 36 week scan on the 15th May and she has arranged to come to our house on the 16th May (as on the 15th they should give me my induction date - depending on Jelly's size...) and go through a complete pre-birth plan. So she told me to have all my questions ready and she'll go through everything. I was really pleased and I'm really looking forward to that session. She said that she will go through various ways that we can try to start the labour ourselves and she said that even if they don't work, they may well soften the cervix up.

So all in all, I'm feeling a lot more relaxed and comfortable now with the situation. I just hope that I get a sympathetic MW at the actual hospital!!

I've really waffled on (again). I hope that everyone is having a lovely day and I'll be back on again later.

OMG dawn that post has made me realise how close we are panick aaaarrrrgggghhhh

and onto relative calm!!

hever i really like the name Chloe too, i agree it is popular but not in a chavvy way so you go for it!

You have got me thinking now, my maiden name is a boys name and i am tempted to use it as a second middle name, what are everyones views on having two middle names? obviously hever is up for that i just want to check it isnt too pompous? and dont hold back ladies - i want you to be completely honest!

Summer, we're having two middle names as DH has two middle names. Our two middle names are Ellen Rose. DH's Mum died when he was 15, her middle name was Ellen so we wanted that. My Nan who I was really close to, died when I was 17 and was called Rose, so we wanted that too. As DH has two middle names, we decided it would be nice and would make sense to keep both family names for our little one.

Narrowed our options down to three names now so votes please!!

Lily Ellen Rose
Elesha Ellen Rose
Sophia Ellen Rose

We think we might see what she looks like before we make the final decision...

summerbird · 23/04/2009 17:59

oo of course dawn i remember you telling me now, ok so we may go for William Henry Scott Summerfield then. Although i have to run this by DH first!!

OP posts:
PistachioLemon · 23/04/2009 18:06

Summer, there's nothing wrong with two middle names, I say go for it.

Dawn, for voting purposes, I like Lily Ellen Rose...

Oh, and Dawn, I'm so glad the MW was good and reassured you, you sounded like you were getting really quite stressed out about it all.

heverhoney1 · 23/04/2009 18:13

I like Lily Ellen Rose too!! I would prefer Lily Rose Ellen though because as you know they are my middle names and thats the way round I have it.

I think 2 middle names is quite common now - obv when I was young it wasn't I like being different.

DawnAS · 23/04/2009 19:37

Oooh Summer, that's lovely!! I love William Henry Scott!!! How gorgeous. Does that mean you have to think about a second middle name for the girl aswell now?

Thanks Pistachio, I do feel much better now and am finally starting to relax a little bit... I can't believe how close it's getting though - it's quite shocking how quickly time is flying.

Hever, I told my DH about your middle names and he was amazed. One matching middle name can be common but two is just fab!!

Just ironed another load of little pink clothes... Feet are really sore and massive and back is hurting so time to put the feet up I think!

Hi All, just thought i'd post a little update. I've not been posting much but i've been lurking and keeping up with everyone elses news!! Can't believe we will have our first babies on this thread over the next few weeks how exciting!!!

I'm doing ok so far (touch wood!)Im now almost weeks. Been to the docs and am waiting to hear from the midwife at the moment. I should then get an early can in the next couple of weeks to see if things are going ok. Very mixed feelings about that. Can't help replaying in my mind what happened last time and the words of the sonographer . But i do feel quite different this time. I have had a lot of nausea but no actual sickness so far. Frustratingly i feel very sick when i am actually eating which isn't great so im really not eating very well at the moment and a bit worried about what that could be doing to baby. I have also gone off a few things this time. Mostly tea and chocolate Less period pain type cramps that last time and more of the muscle type stretchy pains. I am also getting hugely bloated which has become a great source of amusement amongst the few people that know - my magical inflating stomach 0-6 months pregnant in 10 mins . Trousers are just starting to feel uncomfortable again too. So all in all im hoping these are all good signs but my brain is struggling to contemplate that things could actually go well this time. I have been trying to think positive and DH and i have even chatted about names again which is good and has helped us feel a bit more excited about it all.

So thats me really, hope everyeone else is ok. Does anyone know what happened with IAte? Haven't heard anything from her in quite a while.

OH and by the way Hever Chloe is one of my fave names. We are currently like either Martha Mai or Henry James. Im sure we wil change our minds a hundred times over the next few months though!!!

DawnAS · 24/04/2009 13:47

Hey Fairy,

It's lovely to hear from you!! I was actually thinking about you while I was in the shower today, wondering what you were up to and how you were getting on.

Sounds like things are definitely moving in the right direction and that your symptoms are stronger. That's all good news!!

I remember after my MC, DH and I didn't really talk about the baby at all until my early scan at 8 weeks and then we tried to hide our excitement until after the 12 week scan, and kept our feet on the ground. Unfortunately having a MC does take away from that innocent excitement of your first pregnancy. But you will get there hon.

Sooooo am with you on the bloating aswell. I definitely had that for quite some time, but it seemed to disappear when I actually starting growing a baby bump! Strange but true - so hopefully you won't have it for much longer! At my 7 week GP check, I had already gone up to 10st 5lbs from 9st 12 lbs - so half a stone and it would mostly have been bloating! Hence why I'm just over 12 stone now. So I think by the end of this PG, I will have put on about 3 stone. Not too worried though as it all appears to be bump. I bought myself some size 14 normal jogging bottoms when I was about 7 weeks and am still wearing them now as they sit under the bump - so I'm assuming I don't yet have an arse the size of an elephant - well, no more than I did before I was PG anyway - !! Plus, they do say that you generally put on a little more PG weight if you're underweight to start with and being just 9st 10 at 5ft 8, I was classed as slightly underweight. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!

So glad things are looking better. I'll never forget the feeling when I went for the 8 week scan, fully expecting to hear that the Sonographer couldn't see anything to be casually told "there's your baby and it's got a very strong heartbeat" - the relief. It was wonderful and it will be for you too.

Good luck honey!!

crunchynutter · 24/04/2009 18:37

Hi all! I have had a terrible day

After all the confusion with the new doctors I finally got a call today to say they had had my test result (pregnancy) back (they would not make me an appointment until they had confirmed) and it was negative I was at work in a training day with my department and had to stay another 3 hours trying not to cry but they could all tell something was wrong (you know the- 'are you sure you're okay??' type questions!) So anyway, he said been as i was saying there had been no bleeding or cramps he wanted to do another test monday morning but could not see me before and then it would take another three days before my results came back- so Wednesday or Thursday.

Anyway... i got home to my husband in floods of tears and said I couldn't wait nearly a week to know whether my baby is there or not so we went up to my old family planning clinic. and I got a 'strong' (yes she said it!) positive it was a bit like finding out all over again but I was soo upset and angry i've gone through all this stress.

I have an appointment with the midwife booked for Monday now so just have to clear it with work in the morning but it should be fine- So now i am going to celebrate with pizza as thanks to you lovely ladies I now know it is not forbidden

So when's the baby shower anyway?? and Hever I do like Chloe (it is my husband's favourite at the moment!) but I must admit I get put off by the popularity but I think that's a teacher thing. I teach 4 different Chloe's in ONE yr 7 class!! (And there are many more!) I must admit the girls are all set one, intelligent, polite, lovely ( and attractive not that it matters!) young ladies-not at all chaavvy!! but I still think it would make me think of one of them! I'm having trouble finding names we both like that I don't know a child called though- it's hard when I work with 1500 kids LOL.

summerbird · 24/04/2009 21:20

crunchy that is absolute sh!£e (sorry for the language ladies - but it is). I am appalled that you have gone through this today. It is just messing with your head. I am sending bucketloads of babydust your way for a slightly smoother ride next week. Hopefully the midwife can put your mind at rest as it does sound good that you are PG but FFS [summerbird goes on another rant about doctors incompetence]

fairy helloooo lady! good to hear from you and completely understand your hesitation but if anyone understands then dawn does and she speaks lots of wisdom! Your symptoms sound entirely classic (from my point of view anyway) I too worried about the nausea effects on the babba and i too wasnt sick either, it is a scary few months as i think i said in an earlier post, you do get to a point where you start to relax but that took me about 30 weeks!! Good luck hun, you are doing great

OK so we need to set a date for Hevers baby shower i can be quite flexible as am not working now so over to you ladies!

Can we have virtual champagne???

Hello again, Just looking for a bit of advice from the pregnant ladies. For a couple of days now i've had a one sided pain in my lower abdomen. Its like a kind of pinchy almost stitch like pain. Very mild and intermittent. Doesn't sound too sinister does it?? I'll mention it to the midwife once she gets in touch. I've no other symptoms with it, no bleeding or anything.
