yeah i guess i'm lucky in the fact that me and blokey both look at this all the same way. we both got checked after 6 months of "targetted" trying. neither us minding the various prodding, needles or pot "deposits".

we'd already let loads of stuff get in the way. weddings, home moves, new jobs, probation periods etc, etc so no real indecision left.

we had a bit of a bad time when we first got the results. completely gobsmacked and sad.

now it's all research and appointments and calendars. we're not too fussed. just crackin on with it.

anyway good luck to you. i believe as soon as you make a fertilty appointment, chances of conception that month are thricefold. so i'm told

wildfig · 11/06/2009 08:21

need an emoticon for Paul McCartney style 'thumbs aloft'

VeryAnnieMary · 11/06/2009 08:23

Morning all!

Geeky Welcome back and huge congratulations! What wonderful news! Please stay around.

Wildfig I remember you in Waitrose! I actually do mumble to myself in style of mad old woman - I keep finding that my inner monologue occasionally starts pouring out when I'm strolling along - must be my advanced age.... I feel like that about IVF too - I don't think I feel passionate enough to want to take that route and risk the heartache. But I won't really know till I get there.

Ah Geeky your news has made my morning.

laurielou · 11/06/2009 08:34

Morning ladies,

Big congratulations to geeky BFP & 2:1, you have been busy!! Don't go anywhere, I want someone who seems normal (this threads' version of) to prepare us as far as possible in the PG shenanigans.

triggerhappybaby · 11/06/2009 08:39

Reading back through these posts this morning, I had a sudden horrific thought that maybe we should all give up drinking in order that we are supportive Birth Partners to Geeky

It passed though.

I like Waitrose a lot, but I find it is definitely spearated out into two types of clientele - the first is the impossibly smug women with home-counties bobs and organic lentils, and the other is mad people who spend minutes fulminating (word of the week) at the price of Asparagus whilst filling their trolleys with v expensive wine and spirits. I have a vague suspicion I know which camp we may all tumble into here...

laurielou · 11/06/2009 08:50

trigger, woah, you sent me into a mild panic then at the thought of giving up drinking to support geeky.

And b..r...e..a.t..h.....e...........

I think its our duty to INCREASE our drinking to take on geekys portion. Seems like the only fair thing to do.

VeryAnnieMary · 11/06/2009 08:56

I'm with Laurilou

Cosmosis · 11/06/2009 10:02

yay Geeky! I think shit scared is normal isn't it?

I'm with laurielou on the drinking, I'll nip out now for a quick early morning snifter

skihorse · 11/06/2009 10:46

trigger I think what geeky needs is someone to hold her cocktail/bong when a big contraction hits - not be a tee-total bore!

I'm loving the references to teenage shennanigans such as dope & gcses!

Aussieng · 11/06/2009 11:13

Congrats Geeky please stay around - it feels good to have a BFP on here, I was starting to think this was an unlucky group and that we needed to invest in a pregnancy chair.

BTW - I think this is our second BFP - Liskey anyone?

I'm off to research the post-coital fumble - I have no idea what this is all about but am intrigued...

triggerhappybaby · 11/06/2009 11:18

I see I may have been a little hasty in my assumption that all things mind-altering would have to jettisoned.

Personnally I think a cannabis-assisted birth has a great deal to recommend it. As long as a powerful antidote could be administered on completion of the birthing thing, so one can look at least vaguely human on the inevitable post-partum snapshots and video. Not sure the whole pointing-at-the-ceiling-grinning-inanely-and-demanding-ginger-nuts is going to come across well to the extended family.

I could be wrong though, if you can pass it off as the wonder of the miracle of life or summat.

wildfig · 11/06/2009 11:43

You don't really need a pregnancy chair: I am a pregnancy totem, but for other people. I only have to turn up at a meeting for several key participants to announce they're off on maternity leave.

Am not a stoner, but fully intend to have loud birthing CD of Led Zeppelin (and Guns n Roses) nonetheless.

triggerhappybaby · 11/06/2009 12:03

I am not a stoner either. Haven't touched the stuff for at least 8 years...

Geekylass · 11/06/2009 12:34

Ewwww, not cider, went right off that when much younger when I drank too much diesel (assuming we all remember that snakebite and black drink-from-hell for goths?) and threw up all over George Square, never been able to even sniff it after that without heaving.

(Not giving you a great impression of myself here, am I? I promise I will try to be more responsible from now on)

I think the best thing for you all to do is start hanging around with 20 year olds and acting just like them (including the irresponsible drinking and dope smoking). I'm sure that's what did it for me! FGS don't give up the booze, I'm not sure I could handle the guilt I will live vicariously (sp?) through you. Am loving the thought of you all in the delivery room (now that's a scary thought) absolutely wasted holding cocktails and bongs and reminding me to breathe! For some bizarre reason you are all dressed up with little hats and long gloves on...

Here's hoping the fertility appts will speed things along naturally [fingerscrossedemoticon] I need someone else to share in my terror precious joy (bokes). Still not feeling all that excited or happy about it all - think I need to do something that will make it seem real. Maybe tell someone IRL? Too scared to make an appt with GP yet. Wonder if I should let them know on Monday when I go for jury service (or will they just think its tmi?).

Geekylass · 11/06/2009 12:37

Also, thanks for all the congratulations guys! You are all awesome - now go forth and shag like rabbits

triggerhappybaby · 11/06/2009 13:16

I've just eaten a Boost and a Wispa for lunch. Does that make me a fat bitch bad person?

SarahAbroad · 11/06/2009 13:22

nocoffee I am PMSL at the TMI post of the day. My first thought was: where is the OH?! (She seems to be taking care of herself....) The second though was, maybe this is the kind of post that causes people like skihorse's doctor to ask: "Are you sure you are having sex." I can imagine there will be at least one idiot out there who now thinks you can get preggo by masturbation!

skatergrrrl and others--thanks for the commiserations on the job. While the timing wasn't ideal, it has actually turned out to be a blessing. I am NOT going back to my old profession and (what with TTC and all) now doesn't quite seem the time to be embarking on a huge job hunt. (Hi, please give me a job. I'll be going on maternity leave in 6 months....) So it is really, really, really a GOOD THING. (I just miss having a handbag and shoe budget.

geeky (great name, by the way)-congratulations!!!!!!! Your feelings are totally natural and totally understandable. It's a big change and it will take some time to get used to. As for the alcohol, there are plenty of tips on this throughout the thread (from a couple of weeks ago), but you could always just say: "I really feel like I need a detox after the exams." and leave it at that....

cheggers · 11/06/2009 13:31

@ trigger - i'd be more worried if my boss knew i was posting on a "we're trying to make a baby" forum

triggerhappybaby · 11/06/2009 13:41

Oh he'll be fine. I shall just tell him that it helps me assimilate all my woman trouble and he will assuredly leave me alone.

Actually he's a top boss. If he thinks I find this all very therapeutic (which I do) I'm sure he will be firmly in favour. And besides it's lucnhtime and will be until at least 2pm

Cosmosis · 11/06/2009 14:23

trigger we went to Macdonalds. That makes me a much fatter bitch worse person.

triggerhappybaby · 11/06/2009 15:01

Is that your Guilty Pleasure Cosmo??

Mine's Supernoodles, the plastic strings of death. Would anyone else like to fess up?

Cosmosis · 11/06/2009 15:04

Hmmm I also love Supernoodles! And plastic cheese slices

SarahAbroad · 11/06/2009 15:12

American macaroni and cheese from the box (you know, the kind with the yellow cheese powder).... Gross, but so nostaligic. Hmmmm. If I ever get the BFG, it will be a perfect excuse--all that calcium....

SarahAbroad · 11/06/2009 15:14

Erm, that was supposed to be BFP not BFG. Not sure what Roald Dahl books are doing on here....
Come to think of it--also looking forward to guilt-free ice cream...Hey, it's dairy!!!!

triggerhappybaby · 11/06/2009 15:14

@ plastic cheese slices. They remind me of dusters - or they would if I knew what a duster looked like.

I like chicken and mushroom Pasta 'N' Sauce too - in fact anything that reminds me of being a student!
