Anyone feel like joining this bus??

I'm 36, TCC 1, never wanted children and now have done a complete u-turn!

this is what you need to cart the kids around.

wildfig don't forget though, there's a long way before ivf, there's clomid and stuff as well first. But yeah, I do know what you mean, finding out what's going on does have a bit of an "apportioning blame" aura to it doesn't it.

donttrythisathome · 10/06/2009 14:32

PMSL laughing at the abandoned empty bike buggy next to the duck pond. "Mommy I'm drowning!!".

God I'm sick.

Also, did you see the size of one of the kids - she looked about 14! Are they still in a buggy then these days?!

I'd also really like to see them demonstrate getting one of those mothas on a tube in central London.

On balance though, me likey!

I didn't properly consider that DP may be afraid of being blamed for the babyfail. Feeling insensitive

wildfig · 10/06/2009 14:44

I like the way the mother has cycled herself and her tot straight to the toyshop - the fool! And then gone straight inside it!

I note that those are available in Northcote Road. Waitrose will no longer be safe for the pedestrian.

Cosmosis · 10/06/2009 14:51

they are about £1600 apparently!! I'll just fasten my baby on to my existing bikes with a bungee. That'll do.

wildfig · 10/06/2009 14:59

£1600! £1600! [faints clean away. But manages to grab Aston Martin brochure while falling]

skihorse · 10/06/2009 16:55

They're pretty normal here in clogland - land of bicycles. I've seen dog-cages, trailers and a friend has 3 boys under 5 (and frequently their friends) - so he has something which looks NOT dissimilar to a tuk-tuk!

VeryAnnieMary · 10/06/2009 17:48

Wildfig I was int hat very Waitrose just last night!

VeryAnnieMary · 10/06/2009 17:54

I want one of those bikes! I do! Fabbo! Bottle of gin in front and a long straw and it would be a perfect day out.

Was in Scandinavia over the weekend but IDNS one of these - though their general acceptance of cycling in cities as a non-dangerous sport is . No hats, long, elegant, caught-in-spokes coats/scarves - sigh. They also go in for prams in a big way - proper Silver-Cross sized ones, and keep their kids in them until way past 6 months (by which time Brits have switched to flimsy buggies due to being glared at for daring to take up more than half-an-inch of public space. Though they are very strange when you hold open doors for them - very much not the done thing.

Geekylass · 10/06/2009 18:27

Hi everyone. Don't know if any of you remember me - I joined the thread near the beginning (I'm the one with the elderly cat and manky walls!) but haven't posted since as I was sitting Finals (got a 2:1, yay!) and we weren't ttc until we'd bought somewhere to live. Well... I did a test yesterday and got a BFP. I'm in utter shock and denial at the moment. I think I got the dates mixed up while I was in the fog of sleeplessness that accompanies exams.

Haven't even told OH yet as I'm not sure what he's going to say (and am scared that the test was a mistake or that I'm going to miscarry). We spent the weekend there in Durham, celebrating my result and I'm afraid I have downed umpteen margaritas, smoked dope and taken Nurofen to deal with period pains that didn't become a period! To top it all off, I'm supposed to be going out for dinner with all my family tomorrow night (without my OH) and will have to look as if I a) don't have pain everywhere, dizziness, and enormous boobs, and b) am drinking my usual amount of red wine; or else they will all know the truth.

BTW, I have read the whole thread and I know some of you are having some difficulties. If you'd prefer that I f'd off to a pregnancy thread, I will totally understand. And I'm sorry if I sound at all patronising or smug, I certainly don't mean to be. I'd just prefer to be here because I think you lot are kind of different from the whole babydust types that can be found even on Mumsnet and I'd rather hang out with you!

donttrythisathome · 10/06/2009 18:45

Congratulation geeky on the BFP AND the 2:1.

Of course i remember you. How could I forget the manky walls?!

Someone said on here that the baby doesn't take anything from the bloodstream for 6 weeks so you'll be grand!

Please stay here.

Geekylass · 10/06/2009 19:27

Thank you donttry, I just don't want to upset anyone because it sounds like some of you are having a tough time at the moment. I really hope you all get what you're hoping for soon (again, sorry if that sounds patronising, it is well meant).

As for me, well I thought I'd be over the moon but I'm just scared to death right now. I suppose I should get it over with and tell himself before it becomes too obvious. I've not had many symptoms yet, and I've almost convinced myself that its not going to continue. I wish I could tell my mum! I feel like a silly young 'un at the moment, not a 37 year old. I don't even have a job just now, I graduate in a few weeks (another alcohol-avoiding dilemma), I put on weight while I was revising and I feel hugely fat, AND I start jury duty on Monday. I guess it's true, there is no 'right time' - just hope I don't puke all over the clerk of the court next week

Nocoffeenoworkee · 10/06/2009 20:25

OMFG geekylass, you are entering true notoriety with your BFP on this thread - that took 736 posts y'know! Congratulations! Hats off to your 2:1 also. Of course you can stay, you can be our wet run mum-to-be (that's not meant to be mucky).

Has anyone else seen today's WAY TMI post? DH is going to back right off if I'm lying there with legs in the air having a post-coital lady garden fumble every night for a week...

Wildfig how are your puppies? IYKWIM.

skihorse · 10/06/2009 20:38

Oh thank fuck we have one BIG FAT PREGGO! Well done geekylass. Don't worry about the dope, we have cheese eaters, gin drinkers, exercise freaks and don't forget all you cat-owners. Doesn't cat shit give your unborn babies 3 heads or something?

Slummy mummy numero uno! Don't you dare leave us! Your naughty ways have led to a result. I myself am now off in to town to find a coffeeshop not full of american exchange students.

Btw, isn't it brilliant that ancient oldies like us are still "naughty"?

triggerhappybaby · 10/06/2009 21:20

Oh marvellous a BFP - I have a feeling there will be competitive mucus sniffing, or whatever it is to check that you are fertile.

Congrats to you - I'd be bricking it too. After all, I have at least a half bottle of gin to swill and a fridge full of soft cheese and pate to trough. I would hate to see it go to waste!!

I live in Wandsworth too. I was fortunate enough to have the most uncommunicative midwife going who,as per posts passim, left me high and dry to my own devices before sending me a letter inviting me for a booking in appointment the day I had my mc confirmed. Not come across a teenage GP yet though... can't wait!!

triggerhappybaby · 10/06/2009 21:21

Oh and I have just today bought a Wii-Fit Personal Trainer package in yet ANOTHER triumph of hope over experience in the world of exercise. Will I never learn.

donttrythisathome · 10/06/2009 21:40

I did that fiddling with self thing tonight after the jiggy. Also stuck a pillow under arse despite former pooh poohing of same in sniffy manner.

I swear I didn't post that though. I would post under my own name loud and proud mama. OH yeah!

Catching up on work from today now as spent too much time on here!

OP posts:
SkaterGrrrrl · 10/06/2009 22:04

Hello chaps. Welcome chocolate & lizkin.

I take it everyone in London had a fun journey to work this morning?

Sorry to hear it Sarah - 5 of my friends have lost their jobs in the recession, and all 5 of them have finally found new ones. Fingers crossed for you.

I am feeling cranky today. Work is manic, a couple of my mates are pregnant and my cats are having creative differences.

I need an early night with a book club book and some Earl Grey.

SkaterGrrrrl · 10/06/2009 22:06

Oooh, congrats geeky!! I certainly dont think people should leave our lovely thread if they get a positive.... we can still hang out!

Geekylass · 11/06/2009 01:09

Wow I guess I really am pregnant - felt v emotional reading all your replies! Have been dozing off all evening but a cup of tea has perked me up (no way am I giving that up!).

Didn't even realise I was the 1st BFP! Duh! I hope that's a good sign, still don't feel that it's really sunk in yet. However, I am honoured to be your wet run (ancient) mum-to-be, as well as claiming the title of 'slummy mummy numero uno'! Hooray for gen-x slackers!

Thanks for the congratulations - you're the first to know (is that weird or what?). Will keep you posted. Still can't bloody believe it

cheggers · 11/06/2009 07:20

arr Geekylass that's brilliant. made up for ya

definitley stay here!! can't imagine that anyone in this top bunch of girls would be pissed off with anyone else's success

donttrythisathome re:ICSI yeah there is some chatter about it producing more defect babies, but i think that just depends of the sperm quality. blokeys only got a low sperm count coz he had the balls haven't dropped yet ball dropping operation too late in life. his problem was completely avoidable so as you can imagine he's pretty pissed off abut the whole thing. anyhow - if that is the only "defect" we pass on i can be a "ninja mom" and spot that one.

i do joke that we are defying darwin. probably shouldn't do that

wildfig oh my god - we didn't even think twice about going IVF route. now i think maybe we should have more a debate about it?!! mr IVF was really matter of fact about it and it didn't sound that bad. it's only slightly longer than your normal cycle, and i think even if we fail at least we have a real chance, rather than not much.

slightly dubious about the hormone overdose though. i can be a narky bastard at the best of times

wildfig · 11/06/2009 07:22

Congratulations geeky - a 2.1 and a baby! Maybe it was the 'irresponsible teenager' thing of doing it while you were in the vicinity of textbooks and dope that set off the right reactions? We should all sign up for some extra GCSEs and, er, switch the gin for cider.

I am (a) properly out for this month now, and (b) awake a good 2 hrs before my normal freelance rising time thanks to the snore symphony going on in bed. Grrr. Should I ever get pregnant i'll have no problem with sleepless nights - haven't had one for years. That's the real reason (OK, one of the reasons) I work away from home so much. On the plus side, I can now get my day 3 bloods done.

nocoffee puppies are fine, thanks! Long story, but they're not actually with us - our dog is rather posh so she's having her one and only litter back in her home kennel where they were eagerly anticipating the birth of a new girl, in manner of reverse royal family. She comes back to us at the end of next month, probably with one of the pups and a new roast-chicken-a-day habit.

trigger That was Wandsworth health authority?! [boaks] Nice. You poor thing. I would write someone a letter about that; early mc is not such a rarity, sadly, so upsetting mistakes like that could surely be avoided by one cross check? I wrote a furious letter about being told my fibroids were 'the size of a three-month foetus' (not great when the operation to remove them could have ended in hysterectomy) - patient care is not just about cutting you up and stitching you back together.

and VAM - am sure we've met in Waitrose already. I am the woman muttering about the scandalous price of Perfectly Ripe Avocados.

cheggers · 11/06/2009 07:23

oh and LOL at donttrythisathome succumbing to the pillow and post coital shufty

cheggers · 11/06/2009 07:35

morning wildfig

i'm another rubbish sleeper. been up since 6:30 this morning (on a day off) and am quite often wondering around the house in the middle of the night.

nocturnal life with babies will be a breeze

(feel free to quote that back to me in a few years when i am far more knowlegable and hagged )

wildfig · 11/06/2009 07:42

cheggers I don't have anything against IVF in general - at least two of my friends have gone down that route, and now one of them has three babies under 3! It's more to do with my own less-than-decisive attitude about children in general, and my not-great ability to deal with mood swings, plus having a job where I can't take much time off, and the possibility that it might not work out (such an optimist, me). But after a year, I suppose it's coming to the point where I can't avoid finding out where the problem lurks - and I'm more worried about my other half than me, since it's already hard to talk to him about this sort of thing. We have, after all, managed to avoid talking properly about it for the past, oooh, seven years or so when most other people were hitting the maternity wards.

But I think you're taking a brilliantly practical and realistic approach and am sure you'll be next on the knocked-up list!

re that TMI post - if that seriously helped you to get pregnant, wouldn't everyone have had at least seven kids by now? Most of them before the age of 23?

wildfig · 11/06/2009 07:47

whereas I'm NOT used to being up this early, as the many bizarre typos in my posts demonstrate!

Ah, London before 8am. I can hear the tranquil sound of a hundred weekend-only mopeds and au pairs' cars being thrashed angrily down Balham High Road towards the City. Tube strike, schmube strike...
