Hi just wondered if people ttc on Clomid wanted to join this thread unless i have been stupid and missed one.

We are due to fertility clinic on 22nd and expect to go on clomid again.

We have 2 dc. Ds1 is nearly 9 and was concieved without fertility help. THis was a big surprise as have PCOS and was told would never conceive naturally.

Ds2 was conceived after 1 course of clomid 50mg. My day 21 test was awful and still no period after 45ish day. Was put on progesterone to induce bleed. Didnt happen as was pregnant.

Was also on metformin but not currently, waiting for all clear next week. I have dodgy lft generally on medication and also bfing.

Ds2 is 1 now and still breastfeeding. Hoping this will not hinder any treatment as really want to continue this too. I am now 33 so fertility decreasing too.

I dont have a cd currently as all up the shoot so waiting to see what happens really.

Hi All
Seems busy on here tonight

Atilla
It's the gynaecologist that decided the blood test have to be done at such regular intervals and I am pretty much under my gp's guidance until 10/08/09 as thats the next time I have to go to the hospital. I thought this was common practice so didn't question it when I saw her. I also just realised I didn't ask if having my bloods done on CD17 was too early so although I say I haven't ov I still dont know for sure. I start the progesterone again tomorrow. Clomid on CD2 - 6
Alfie Sounds like you are having a crap time at the mo chick, but if you were prescribed the clomid at 100mg maybe its best to take it at that this month, also I agree with Atilla you should get your bloods done again, I feel as if mine has been done so much I am a pin cushion lol.

mummcat it was only the 50mg I had and had the same side effects as you, but I have to try and DP will just have to put up lol. I dont have direct contact with the gynae so I cant ask her, trust me to be so bloody dizzy

Clure I have to take the progesterone to induce my period before I take the clomid, its a pain but looks like it will be another 2 weeks before I take the clomid again, which is a pain lol

Dawni Hiya and welcome, think atilla is right you should go back to the doc it is better to be monitored on clomid, and the side effects can be dodgy without medical help

Awen, brandybaby, Lauren anyone I may have missed how are you? xx

TishB · 10/02/2009 22:31

mummycat1 and Stac14 I've had 7 cycles of 50mg and I've been lucky in terms of side-effects, had sore tummy and sore boobs after about CD21 but otherwise nothing I've noticed. I'm due my appointment at the gynae next week, I have no idea what they are going to suggest next, I don't know if I want to just come back with another 6 months on 100mg or something.

As I've previously said I haven't been monitored at all these past 6 months and don't think 50mg clomid has done anything for me at all - do you think it's worth me having the 100mg for a few more months?

Just not happy at wasting more time as I feel I have already wasted a good few months on 50mg!!
Help please, advise me somebody!!!

stac14 · 10/02/2009 23:01

Hi tish
They should have been monitoring you, it seems like different rules for different parts of the country, my gynaecologist says its not unusual to have to go up to 100mg but if they offer that insist they monitor you properly, when I went I didnt know to ask about scans on CD10 but I am getting blood tests CD21, 28 and 35. Atilla advised me to write a list of things you want to know, which i did do but forgot half the stuff I wanted to know, but it may be worthwhile for you to do that
hope this helps xxx

loulabell07 · 10/02/2009 23:55

Hello everyone! I'm new at this, and have only recently found this website after searching for info relating to clomid on the internet.

I would like to know your thoughts as I am anxiously awaiting a blood pregnancy test! I have only taken one cycle of clomid 50mg which I started 30/12/08 its now day 43 and no sign of AF and I have tried helplessly not to get too excited as I find myself counting my pregnancy symptoms, knowing these are very similer to the side effects of clomid....But how can I possibly keep calm??

Having read alot of your posts I'm assured I'm not alone in my quest to concieve. And nor am I alone in this frustration that it has taken years to have been prescribed the clomid after trying naturally for sooo long!

Here's hoping we all get the success stories we are waiting for, and soon!

BrandyBaby · 11/02/2009 07:46

Hello Ladies!!!!!!

I?m sorry that I haven?t been able to post... kinda crazy busy!

Alfiemax-Thank you for always thinking of me since I?ve been gone!

I?m on a 29 day cycle. I thought that I could have been pregnant with the 100mg (days 3-7) THIS MONTH...I WAS WRONG! I got my period Saturday. I was so upset... I cried!

So ladies I did something a little different this time, instead of taking clomid on days 3-7... This month I took clomid on days 1-5.
Day #1 February 7th
Day 1 -100mg, Day 2-100mg, Day 3-150mg, Day 4-100mg, Day 5-50mg. I have been looking and researching women taking clomid on days 1-5, and the outcome seems to always be more successful than any other days.

WHAT DO YOU LADIES THINK???
I know some of you might think... will that increase my chances of multiples??... Perhaps, but the likelihood is slim. I would be grateful for whatever I?m blessed with.

This month I will be taking:
Prenatal vitamin
1 baby aspirin
Green tea extract
Omega-6
Robitussin (only active ingredient: guaifenesin) on days 8-15 of my cycle.
Raw baby carrots on days 8-15 of my cycle.
Lots of water on days 8-15 of my cycle.

This month my husband will be taking:
Men?s multivitamin
L-carnitine
Grape Seed Complex
Zinc
Lots of water on my days 8-15 of my cycle.
A cool washcloth on his balls from 8-10 minutes on days 8-15 of my cycle.

~Also using Preseed when bding
~ 72 hours after ovulation I will be using Progesterone cream (on ankles, arms, elbows)

I would like to know what everyone else is doing as well. Thank you!

BrandyBaby · 11/02/2009 07:56

Oh, I forgot...I will also be taking Vitamin B6.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 11/02/2009 07:58

Hi Stac14

What you've been told is a big pile of poo. As for not being seen at hospital until 10th August, well that's totally unacceptable. Don't put up with shoddy treatment. You should be seen monthly at the very least by the gynae; these problems as well are also outside a GPs remit.

Methinks you may need a referral to another gynae unit. It is fair to say that some NHS fertility units are far better than others.

stac14 · 11/02/2009 09:14

Hi Attila
I will speak to my GP, my problem is that I am attending my local hospital, is it different for me as I am from Scotland? I also don't have direct contact with the gynaecologist.

I'm also wondering if I should do a HPT before I start my progesterone again as technically my period would have been due on Monday and as I said I think getting bloods done on cd17 may have been too early, anyone any suggestions???

Brandybaby
Good to see you back! I'm sorry you came on chick, hope your feeling better now. I don't know if they way your taking the clomid will change the result or cause multiples.

Welcome loulabelle
Hope you get the result you want, make sure you let us know how you get on

Well I'm off to do some studying, let me know if you have any ideas about the HPT
Cheers xxx

loulabell07 · 11/02/2009 10:05

Hi Stace,
Re: HPT - If you havnt had your AF and its late by all means do a HPT, but if it is negative ask GP to do a blood test.
This is what has happened with me! I was due for AF on 26th Jan and still no sign. I did an ovulation test on day 13 and it was pos so I expected my AF to arrive on time. over 2 weeks, and 3 neg HPT's later, and Still no sign on AF. I was tempted to start taking my next round of Clomid but sought Gyne advice first and was told NO DONT DO IT as HPT might not be accurate and they advised blood test.
....Still waiting for result though and it's killing me!!!

Good Luck x

AttilaTheMeerkat · 11/02/2009 10:11

Hi Stac,

Re your comments:-

"I will speak to my GP, my problem is that I am attending my local hospital, is it different for me as I am from Scotland? I also don't have direct contact with the gynaecologist"

Shouldn't be any different in Scotland. Its not ideal that you do not have direct contact with the gynae. I think a second opinion with a gynae at a unit in a city would be an option worth considering.

"I'm also wondering if I should do a HPT before I start my progesterone again as technically my period would have been due on Monday and as I said I think getting bloods done on cd17 may have been too early, anyone any suggestions???"

I would hold off doing a HPT for the time being till at least a week or two after AF was supposed to start. If PCOS is at work here that can play tricks. Bloods for progesterone are usually done on day 21 (the day 21 is a standard test); think day 17 may be a tad too early. Infact I would not do any HPT till the result of the day 21 is known.

stac14 · 11/02/2009 11:24

Hi Attila
The only problem is that I didn't get bloods done on CD21 so I have no idea if I have ovulated. I agree with you about pcos thats why I haven't done HPT yet, don't want to get my hopes up either lol, thanks so much for your advice, think I need to research my options more thouroughly

loulabelle
I am supposed to be starting progesterone today to induce my period but I am afriad to do so due to my bloods. When do you get the results of your blood test?

stac14 · 11/02/2009 11:34

Hey ladies
Just phoned the hospital, and have been told to do a pregnancy test, I am so nervous but kind of doubt it will make a difference so going to go to the nurse this afternoon and see whats what, will let you know later.
Talk soon xxx

mummycat1 · 11/02/2009 13:50

Hello BrandyBaby don't think I've met you yet. You sound very positive and proactive. I like it! Some good ideas too - my DH is going to get a cold wash cloth around his knackers as soon as he walks through the door now! lol.

I took 50mg of Clomid on days 2-6. Am taking multivits and iron plus extra vits A,C and E. Am also drinking loads of grapefruit juice and green tea.

My DH is taking vit E and Vit C and zinc.

Sorry to be thick, but what do these things do:baby aspirin,Omega-6, Robitussin, Raw baby carrots, L-carnitine, Grape Seed Complex, Preseed, Progesterone cream?

Stac14 good luck!

some things my nurse told me that people might find useful: only BD every other day so that sperm isn't watered down too much. Don't do a pg test until you are a week late. She also said that they are against using the pg tests that are supposed to tell you 6 days before af is due - they don't work properly with Clomid.

Dawni · 11/02/2009 14:10

Hello ladies

Thanks again for the advice, ive decided to wait and go and see my doctor, best to do these things safley !! I also want to ask her why i get my period so soon after ovulation, i get aches and pains by 3DPO and my period arrives around 7-10DPO, so there seems to be no chance of a BFP !!

stac14 · 11/02/2009 17:19

Hey Ladies
Went to the surgery were you can usually see the nurse between 2-4 to do a pregnancy test but today she was only seeing people until 3 and I didnt go till 3.30 as had to DS from footy training, anyway she agreed to do the test for me then phone me, but I am still waiting. Feeling a bit crampy could be AF coming on its own which would be good cause I could take the clomid, who knows wish she would phone soo, this is so frustrating!!!!

TishB · 11/02/2009 19:15

hi stac14 - how did you go on???? let us know....

Brandyaby - wow, you're good - so committed to the whole ttc thing! And your DH too!
My DH likes the more 'non'involved' approach to the whole thing so presenting him with a cool wash cloth for his ballies won't go down too well! LOL!!
Gonna give it a try though, let you know hoe I get on !!

Also, I noticed you've done different things with your clomid intake, changing the dosage you're taking and the days you take it on, I'd be so nervous about changing anything but if clomid works better from day1-5 it would be worth a try. I'm on 50mg Day2-6 - or WAS...had my 7 months of it already, waitin gto see what's next.

BTW, is everyone on here apart from me and stac14 in direct contact with your gynae? I have only seen my gynae cons. once, the next time I wen I thought I was seeing her again but instead was met with a rather young, inexperienced-looking Dr who I must say didn't really seem like she knew my medical history much - apparently she's under my gynea's TEAM so I can be seeing anyone from the team everytime I go! Seems a little soddy to me but didn't question it as I thought it was the done thing ecerywhere - just as not being monitored!!

stac14 thankd for that tip to make a list of everything I want to know from my appointment on the 18th - can anyone give me any tips on what else I sould be asking ofr eg. blood tests of different cycles days, HSG injections etc...

Clure · 11/02/2009 19:29

Stac any news yet?

Tish I will second your request for tips on what to jot down to ask gynae as have my appt soon

Hi to the rest of you hoping you're all good

stac14 · 11/02/2009 20:27

Hey Ladies
Bloody nurse didnt phone back, heads nipping with it all just want to know one way or another.

Hows everyone else today? xx

mummycat1 · 11/02/2009 21:12

stac14 you poor thing (((((hugs)))))

TishB Have only seen consultant twice and one of those times was when I was just about to go under for my lap! lol

I see two fertilty nurses when I go in for my scans. They are great and really knowledgable. Also very human and very positive. I can also ring them when I have any questions and they will call me back if I leave a message.

Alfiemax · 11/02/2009 21:16

Evening Ladies,

Hope everyone is good.

I feel better today now I've got over CD1 syndrome lol. I think it happens to all of us. I'm still pissed at the short 2nd bit but hey ho!

Attila in answer to your Q about DH, yeah he has had SA which we had to drive miles for because they don't do them in this area, but all was goos and everything is top notch in that department. And thank-you again. You do have some really good advice. I know I should have more up to date tests and some monitoring but I'm just thankful of getting clomid as it took me 3 years just to get a referral so I'm very very nervous of being told NO! I hope that makes sense.

Stac14 are you having to wait to have a HPT done? Good Luck hun. So how long do you have to wait for a possible BFP before inducing your period?

BrandyBaby You are going to be busy this cycle lol, but it's great that you're taking good healthy positive steps to a BFP. My only concern is whether you're taking too many things alongside the clomid? Whether it may have an edverse effect, especially Vit B6 as this is supposed to help 'balance' your hormones. I know you're not meant to use anything that can mess with hormones whilst taking clomid.

TishB have you got much clomid left? Or do they give you a repeat? Was wondering how you could go about upping the dose. I mean if they aren't monitoring you how do they know it's even doing it's job. Stupid people.

Mummycat1 How are you? Good I hope. How much longer have you got on clomid then?

Clure well done on the weight loss hun. Keep it up.

Awen how are you? Haven't heard from you in a couple of days, hows the clomid going? Many side effects?

Welcome to Dawni and Loulabell07 you'll fit in just great here. All lovely ladies and I don't know where I would have been without them these last few weeks.

That's about it from me. I'll speak to you all soon.

Forgot to say "Case Notes" on radio 4 today was all about ovaries and discussed PCOS at length. If anyone's interested then you can go on the radio 4 website and use the listen again facility.

mummycat1 · 11/02/2009 21:20

Alfie good to hear that you are feeling better. In answer to your question - I've been told that they usually give you six months and then if it's not working try something else.

mummycat1 · 11/02/2009 21:21

I'm on month three

Alfiemax · 11/02/2009 21:50

Hi,

They have given me 6 months @ 100mg, but I started at 50 so have potentially given my self an extra cycle (sarcastic woohoo from me). I'm in a quandry as today is CD2 and I'm supposed to take it tonight.... but.... 1) I don't know 50 or 100? 2) I dont know whether to start from a later CD and hope to stretch cycle a bit more. 3) I really don't want to feel as bad as last cycle at ov time... does it double in pain if I take 100? and lastly 4) I actually feel quite ill tonight, like my glands are swollen, so do I really want to be on C with a groggy head? OMG I'm a freak LOL why can't things and decisions just be simple?

You can all ignore my wiiterings if you like, I think half the time I'm just twittering away to myself, you know when you write it down or say it out loud and you can figure the answer out? Like that.

stac14 · 11/02/2009 22:30

Hey Alfie
I have left a sampel with the practice nurse and she was supposed to be phoning me tonight with the results but surprise surprise she hasn't phoned, DP says its prob cause i'm not. When she confirms the negative test then I will start progesterone which I have to take for 10 days then bout 4 days later I should menstrate the cd2 i will take clomid. I have to start the 100mg too, hoping side effects dont worsen but attila says its not to do with dose so they should be the same.

Just want to say thanks to everyone for being so great over the past couple of weeks, this ttc lark doesn't half mess with your head, but it helps being able to vent on here.

clure how much weight did you lose if you dont mind me asking? I was chuffed cos I went to diet class this month and had lost 5lbs, trying to loose as much as poss before bpf
