TTC - Clomid Thread

MamaMaiasaura · 16/01/2009 23:09

Hi just wondered if people ttc on Clomid wanted to join this thread unless i have been stupid and missed one.

We are due to fertility clinic on 22nd and expect to go on clomid again.

We have 2 dc. Ds1 is nearly 9 and was concieved without fertility help. THis was a big surprise as have PCOS and was told would never conceive naturally.

Ds2 was conceived after 1 course of clomid 50mg. My day 21 test was awful and still no period after 45ish day. Was put on progesterone to induce bleed. Didnt happen as was pregnant.

Was also on metformin but not currently, waiting for all clear next week. I have dodgy lft generally on medication and also bfing.

Ds2 is 1 now and still breastfeeding. Hoping this will not hinder any treatment as really want to continue this too. I am now 33 so fertility decreasing too.

I dont have a cd currently as all up the shoot so waiting to see what happens really.

Thanks again Attila.

I'm not wholey satisfied with the way I have been dealt with so far if I'm honest. The cyst was a ruptures luteal cyst. According to the consultant, I shouldn't read too much into what they found during the emergency lap because it would have been done by a general surgeon and not a gynae one. I think most of the time they say aything to pacify you.

Excellent advice about not going alone to appt's. I find that when I'm with DH, I have far more courage to ask questions rather than sitting there nodding in agreement to everything they say.

Are you TTC at the moment Attila? If so has it been another uphill struggle?

Stac14 I think I'm due 12th/13th Feb but am unsure as I dont know what length my cycle will be or how many DPO I will get to. If this had been a normal cycle where I ov early then I would have been due on on the 9th, but it should be a bit longer than that. How about you hun? Normally I'd start testing from 8DPO but I think I'll hold out if I can, well, maybe till 9DPO LOL.

Thanks Atilla, DP is coming with me for moral support and also because he tends to prompt me into asking question about stuff. The GP just said that I definately had pco but never really gave me advice, just told me it is something I have to live with as there is no cure. Maybe as I dont have any of the other syptoms of pcos except being overweigh for which I am dieting with a dietician (who I was with before diagnosis)Any advice as to what I should ask the gyne? I just want help to have a baby Are you ttc? Your DS is the same age as mine.

Alfiemax thats weird I am due on about 14th feb if I am having a normal cycle, who knows this thread may be very lucky .

HI Stacm Alfie, Attila & clure. Managed to squeeze on here. It has been maddness here. Ds2 on the mend though . Dp now has 'man flu'.

Attila - yep time has flown I get completely bogged down with all the tests and what they are for. THey have upped my does this time from 50 to 100 clomid as my day 21's were naff last time and i didnt ov till very late in cycle. They've taken the normal bloods already to see LH etc levels, though she expects them to be a bit awry due to bfing. Once i start period to call consultant as will need to book day 10 scan (think this is to see what ovaries are doing) hopefully will ov around day 14, blood test day 21 to see if i did. If i get a bfp again will scan me to see how it all looks like last time. Keeping my fingers crossed it all works quickly again here. Does the provera have side effects as feeling very teary at the moment (could be tiredness tho). Your ds is 10, a big boy then. My ds1 is 9 very soon, growing up fast.

Alfie - I hope you did ov, with the preg tests i would wait at least till till after you would expect a period. It is hard not to test and the symptom spotting is tricky as symptoms of pregnancy and symptoms of period are so similar! I need to bulk buy some too. I used superdrugs own last time. Also sorry for all the trouble you been hgaving. Sounds like they arent giving you clear answers. A friend just had her ds2 (last week ) and she was having problems with endo and clotting. Once she got her bfp they gave her prgesterone and aspirin.

Stac - PCOS is a real pain. I hate the hoorid side effects. Putting on wieght easily and prone to more hair. Also the pain of ovulating. When they scanned me early on with ds2 i had a cyst at the time. Not a huge one and it didnt cause me a problem. THey said that it can form after oving.

Clure - I also conceived my first child without intervention, but were werent 'trying' either as been told i couldnt ever concieve without help so didnt use contraception. He really is a gift.

Well if all my dates work i am hoping for a due date of around the 15 Nov

Hoping that we are all lucky on this thread and get our bfps. I forgot to put my age before. I am 33 now, ds1 is 8 (near 9), ds2 13 months.

Hope all goes well for you Awen. I know what you mean about little miracles. I actually did have clomid for first DD she a miracle as I had chemo as a child and so didn't know if I'd ever conceive. I am so lucky and thankful for her. Would like a brother or sister for her too!

stac14 · 02/02/2009 18:22

Hey Alfiemax, clure, Atilla and Awen (hope thats everyone)
How are you all on this lovely snowy day?? My ds got sent home from school because of it, needless to say he is loving it

Awen the effects of pcos is a nightmare, I am lucky I don't have many, but the ones I do have aren't great, not ovulating and being overweight, but I am working on them lol do you have pco?
Glad to hear ds2 is getting better, we all came down with the winter vomitting bug last week and DP was il for his birthday but is much better

Hope your all well

MamaMaiasaura · 02/02/2009 21:23

I wqas very naughty today.. Was told by other kids and parents that ds1's school was shut. So we headed home and saw another mum who said it was open I carried on home thou Naughty me, but he had so much fin in the snow and it hardly ever snows like this.
Ds2 loved it too.

Clure - i know what you mean about wanting borther or sister. When i had my blood taken the nurse (who was lovely) said, well if it doesnt work you still have your other 2. Well yes i do but it doesnt mean i dont want a 3rd any less. Also does that make me selfish for wanting more than 2? If it really really didnt happen, well we would deal with it but just because i already have kids doesnt mean my heart is less in it. Poor you with the chemo so glad that you been abled to conceive, means you could again too

Stac - yes i was diagnosed with pcod when i was late teens early 20's after a laporoscopy. Was told wouldnt conceive without treatment and if i wanted children must do so before age of 30. I wasnt at all overweight at the time. I am a little now, actually never slimmed back to pre preg state after ds1. My boobs also have just kept getting bigger (34/36 J) when they used to be 32/34 dd. So much for bfing making them smaller. My hips are small as well so i look out of proportion. I have very irregular periods, sometimes only 2 a year sometimes more or less. I have the odd hair from chin or top lip, but not many (thankfully) so i pluck em quick . I do get pain when ov'ing tho. And my periods when i have them, are horrendously painful and very very heavy. Sorry if tmi, but it literally pours out at times.

Finished provera now so waiting for an almighty period.. been a while. Bear with me moaning about it.

OP posts:
stac14 · 02/02/2009 23:21

Hi Awen
Never tmi as you have probably read, I have been diagnosed with pcos but never received much information just basicaly theres no cure so get on with it. I never had it when I conceived ds butnow 10 years later it here. I will be 30 this year and thought it was the best time to complete our family never imagined that there would be any problems. If theres any advice about pco anyone can give me I would be very grateful. GP gave me norethersterone to induce period that was my first one in 9 months so agony and very heavy, so totally sympathise.
Your quite right about giving the kids a play day, think my ds will be called off school tomorrow or at least thats what he is hoping lol.

I agree with both clure and awen just because we have other children doesnt make it a bad thing to want more, its not our fault our bodies need a wee helping hand to make it happen.

Alfiemax · 03/02/2009 16:50

Hi Ladies,

I definately agree that just because we already have kids it doesn't make the maternal need any les. I think that's a very ignorant assumption for people to make in all honesty.

Awen I'm glad your DS is feeling better, sorry your DH has 'manflu'. So you're waiting for the big red day now? Are you aprehensive about it hun? Hopefully you'll be joining us with the clomid soon.

Stac14 hope your ok hun. It's good that you don't suffer too badly with PCO, I have heard some right nightmare stories.

brandybaby and clure hope your both ok too.

Are we doing a list for CD's and DPO's? I keep forgetting where everyone is at. I'm CD18 and 4DPO today, due about 12th 13th but maybe 14th lol. Or if I'm extremely lucky, not at all! Been feeling like a pile of crap again today. Not clomid related though (I hope). Got a right muzzy/dizzy head and keep feeling sick as well as a pain in my temple and I'm so bloody tired. The thing is I can get to sleep of a night but I can't seem to stay asleep and wake up for all sorts of silly reasons. This broken sleep is worse than none at all sometimes.

Hope to chat to you all soon ladies.

Clure · 03/02/2009 20:05

Hello all. Thanks for all your words of understanding.
PCO sounds awful, don't really know much about it to be honest. Sorry to be a bit thick but could you tell me what CD's and DPO's are?

I have my gynae apt in less than two weeks, dreading it and looking forward to it - sounds weird I know.
Have also been enjoying day off in the snow. DD so excited!

Clure · 03/02/2009 20:11

Ooh just a quick question, does anyone know if lots of exercise can affect your periods? x

MamaMaiasaura · 03/02/2009 21:13

Dont think excercise affects period but weight can (being very under weight).

CD - cycle day - so CD1 is first day of period, CD14 is usually ov time.

DPO - is days past ovulation.

Alfie - am nervous about the mother of all periods. Not had one for nearly 2 years.

With the roll call thing - we should put all our names together and list our cd or whatever. I just find it confusing to organise though I'll try.

Alfiemax - CD18 (4dpo)
Awen - awaiting C
Stac14 - CD18?
Clure - CD?
Brandy -

Hey Awen Alfiemax clure brandybaby

Awen Just counted I am CD21 think I miss counted last time I am due on on 9th, 10th or 11th I think I am soo rubbish at this but I am at the gynecologist on Monday, should have ovulated between 25th & 30th Jan, I'm further on in the cycle than I thought. Dont know if I have ovulated though cos the blood test on 23rd was too early and havent got the results of blod test took on 30th.
hows DH 'manflu'? My DP goes back to work on Thursday as he was off with muscle spasms in his back.

Clure The symptoms of PCOS is crap depending on what ones you have but obviously the worse for me is the not ovulating but I am hoping the clomid will sort that out.

Hope Everyones well XXX

stac14 · 04/02/2009 15:53

Hi all
Got my blood results back and it looks like I haven't ovulated the doc says my progesterone levels are still below 1, has anyone else had this experience and what did you do?
Cheers xxx

mummycat1 · 04/02/2009 16:22

Hello Ladies! Can I join you please? I'm so tired of going it alone!

My Story: had two boys with my abusive ex when I was 19 and 23. Am now 33, have a wonderful dh and a dd who is 2 and 5 months. She was born after 18 months of trying and being diagnosed with PCOS. We used Clomid and I was lucky and got pgn first time.

Got pgn by ourselves in August 2007, but had a horrific mc in Nov 2007. Have not managed to conceive since then apart from a possible cp in September.

Now we have started using Clomid again and I am on my third cycle. Started to believe it might not happen at all.

Get low each month when my period comes and still feel grief over mc. I don't feel that I can talk to anyone as my best friend is single and going through a painful rollercoaster of trying to adopt and my sister, who I'm usually close to, is 4 months pgn.

It would be nice to share this journey with others in the same boat.

stac14 · 04/02/2009 17:11

Welcome Mummycat
Good to meet you.
This is a very friendly thread and I'm sure you will find lots of support here, I know I have. I also have PCOS and have been ttc since April08 and was only diagnosed with PCOS in July, so we're in the same boat.

Take care XXX

Alfiemax · 04/02/2009 17:16

Hiya Ladies,

Clure try not to be nervous, easier said than done I know. But the more confident and forward you are then the more they'll be honest and upfront with you. Good Luck hunni when you do go though X

Awen 2 YEARS!!! Blimey, I know what youmean by expecting a big one then, any signs of it arriving yet? How's your DH now?

Stac14 I'm so sorry to hear what the doc said. This going to sound patronising but I dont mean it that way, but maybe it was at the wriong time. I only say this because I have read of women being told they weren't ov with blood test but they were. Have they given you any advice or proper feedback? Maybe about upping the dose? ((((HUGS))) For you. I hope they have been helpful to you today.

Mummycat1 (waves) welcome to you. Sounds like you've had a bit of a rough time. I also have no one in real life to talk to. Well not anyone sympathetic anyway. I have sought comfort, advice and refuge in TTC forums for 3 years now and I wouldn't have it any other way to be honest. What cycle day are you on hun? How are they working your clomid? Starting you off on a lower does and increasing it? Good Luck. Like I've already said I think this will be a lucky thread.

As for me, I'm boredof the 2WW now. Boobs have started to get sore and I have alump on one of them, It was there last cycle and went when period cam but it's back again now. Oh well. Have bloated tummy which I normally get 2 or 3 days before period so hopes are dashed already. Positive mental attitude is the key, but I lost that key down the drain somewhere about 5 years ago lol. Actually, no I dont feel too disheartended just yet and I am trying to stay positive. I just have so many ups and downs on the 2WW. I even get stressed about wanting to test when I know it's far too early.

Brandybaby hope you're ok mate, haven't seen you for a couple of days.

Pinkmook hope things are good your end chick.

stac14 · 04/02/2009 17:40

Hey ALfiemax

The GP just said my progesterone levels were below 1 and I would be seeing the gynecologist on Monday. I got my bloods done on CD17 so dont know if I have went too early or maybe I have ovulated later because of the clomid. Think I will have to write a list of things to ask the gynacologist on Monday and wait to see what he says. Could
do with a stiff drink though lol

I had a wee bubble earlier but as my DP says I like things to happen quickly and this is one thing I can't rush, so have to be positive as I'm sure we will all get bfps, so sorry for my moaning

lots of baby dust to us all XXX

Clure · 04/02/2009 19:25

Hello all.
Awen Thanks for answering my query. I'm CD30 (not sure if I've even ovulated and it could be another month before period) Mind you I can't believe you not having period for 2 years

Stac14 I had low progesterone levels first time round and the clomid sorted that out enough for me to fall pregnant with DD. Have you taken clomid yet?

Welcome mummycat1 - heart goes out to you

Hope you're all well Alfiemax, Brandybaby, Atilla and anyone I've missed.

ScorpiowithabigS · 04/02/2009 19:26

Good Luck Awen

mummycat1 · 04/02/2009 19:55

Thank you for the lovely welcome as i set foot in this new and strange land of online chat!

I'm on CD4. Should be easy to count this month as it's the same as the date. So took my third tablet today. Had some vile tummy pains yesterday and I always find it makes me rather flatulent (sorry tmi) but just wondered if anyone else has this unfortunate side effect?

I have responded well for my first two cycles - three big eggs both times - injection given to release them all!!!! But no joy so far. Also had strong blood test results showing that I ov'd.

Have read a few messages where people are saying that they are drinking grapefruit juice. I've never heard of that before. What does that do?

I'll try anything

stac14 · 04/02/2009 20:03

Hi Clure
Have taken my first round of clomid I am on CD22 but got bloods done on CD17 was wondering if I have been tested too early, may be clutching at straws but just curious.

Hey mummycat this place is great for support as everyone knows what your going through, also people are great for giving advice.

XXX

Clure · 04/02/2009 20:16

Stac, its poss about bloods done a bit early isn't it usually day 21 for progesterone?

Clure · 04/02/2009 20:18

mummycat that's encouraging about your eggs. Good luck x
