Hi just wondered if people ttc on Clomid wanted to join this thread unless i have been stupid and missed one.

We are due to fertility clinic on 22nd and expect to go on clomid again.

We have 2 dc. Ds1 is nearly 9 and was concieved without fertility help. THis was a big surprise as have PCOS and was told would never conceive naturally.

Ds2 was conceived after 1 course of clomid 50mg. My day 21 test was awful and still no period after 45ish day. Was put on progesterone to induce bleed. Didnt happen as was pregnant.

Was also on metformin but not currently, waiting for all clear next week. I have dodgy lft generally on medication and also bfing.

Ds2 is 1 now and still breastfeeding. Hoping this will not hinder any treatment as really want to continue this too. I am now 33 so fertility decreasing too.

I dont have a cd currently as all up the shoot so waiting to see what happens really.

Hi Awen You're cons was quite thorough giving you that advice sheet, it's useful to know all that, i have never even been told about ov kits so wouldn't have know how to use one if i hadn't read about it myself!!

Hi Clure Your gynae appt sounded like it left you a bit confused, they don't half make this harder for us! Well, at least you're on clomid now...BUT I have now learnt that not being monitored while on clomid is a NO NO! Same has happened to me as you know and I'm giving my gynae a kick up the you-know-what on wed!!

STILL haven't done my list, have been soooooooooooo busy today, on my feet all day after going to gym in mornin, playing badminton for hour and slaving in the kitchen all (DBrother has HUNGRY!!!)!

Anyway, I;m one of those peeps who hates taking medicine and would rather not if I don't have to - i would be very nervous about takin anything that i wasn't sure about eg agnus castus etc...

I was debating having a reiki healing session - anyone had one of those/thought about having it to help ttc??

MamaMaiasaura · 16/02/2009 22:12

Hi all - just been looking back at last time i was on clomid (only 50mg) my day 21's were awful at 1.1 but i then i conceived ds2 around cd49, so never know.

Re the OPK's iirc i was told they can give false positives if tested too early on a clomid cycle. Dont know if that is even more complicated by PCOS.. (hopes attila knows)

Did you giys want me to type in the information sheet i was given?

CD10 here and so wishing i had scan done Have had sore boob but might be mastitis starting up again. Had cramps and CM seems increasing (but might be all the bding sorry if tmi). Also spotty(unlike me).

Dp out tonight and just found out he is going abroad CD18, 19 and 20. We are going to try to fit some bding in on CD18 and 20, just before he goes and when he gets back. Thankfully on in europe and not japan this time so a short trip.

Been busy here as half term so entertaining my 9 year old (he had his birthday last week ) and 1 year old. Did swimming today and then long walk and bike ride. Tomorrow its the bear repairers and perhaps park depending on weather.

Hiya

I have a quick question for Awen do you feel crampy when taking provera? I have a feell quite sore and a bit sick but presuming its the progesterone. Do you have any side effects?

I'm also wondering if the doc will keep giving me progesterone to induce af if it doesnt arrive or after negative test, does anyone know how this works?

Sounds like a few of you are on the same days here hoping we have some positive tests soon

Tish meant to say that I have read reflexology is good to help you conceive something to do with helping your hormones balance, I may be wrong but worth a look.
Have you wrote a list for the consultant yet? X

loulabell07 · 17/02/2009 07:10

Hi Ladies

I started a message and I had to go back and check something so everything I just said has disappeared! Took ages too!

Awen Would you mind letting me know what your info says what to do if you miss a period whilst on Clomid? I worried that it means it's not right for me. Or do you think it suggests I need a higher dose? (I'm on 50mg)

Clure I'm sorry I don't know what OPK means? I'm still getting used to some abbreviations! Glad your about to start Clomid!

Stace Thanks for following up - I called the hospital yesterday and spoke to a nurse in my Gynae's Medical Team - My consultant wants to see me but the next available appt is not until 16th March! That seems such a long time! If AF comes before then (which I expect it will - I have started with the cramps - Ouch!) I have to call back up and seek their advice again.

Tish If it helps I also hear Acupuncture can aid conception. I'm thinking of giving it a go. I sometimes go to a very good lady for back pain. She is based in Yorkshire.

Hi Awen,

Re your comment:-

Re the OPK's iirc i was told they can give false positives if tested too early on a clomid cycle. Dont know if that is even more complicated by PCOS.. (hopes attila knows)

OPK's, clomid and PCOS are very uneasy bedfellows. Would not suggest using OPK's on a clomid cycle - clomid can encourage LH production and the kit could very well be reading that thus giving a false result. Also many PCOSers produce an excess of LH to FSH: the opk could be reading that as well.

Clure · 17/02/2009 08:12

Hello to everyone

mind has been going mad during the night, didn't sleep terribly well. I'm excited and nervous about clomid.

I'm going to make an appointment with GP. My consultant said if I took the hospital prescription to GP they could give me more cycles of clomid on a prescription. I'm not actually sure this is good in hindsight as this implies "here's your meds now go and get on with it" Having now been on this thread for a while I've learned that many of you are monitored. And so I will also speak to GP about this.

I also have complication of being on meds for high blood pressure and so need to have this monitored. If I do have the good fortune to ever conceive I will have to stop taking blood pressure meds immediately. Last time I conceived it had an amazing effect on my bp and twas the one time I had a good reading without taking my meds.

Loullabelle OPK= ovulation predictor kit, I'm still picking up these abbreviations too and get a bit confused.

stac I was offered provera (think I'm similar cycle day to you) foolishly I turned it down. You know when there's so much info going round in your head. I think I thought if I could achieve a positive outcome by not putting too many "extra" meds into my body, does that sound daft?

Awen and Attila, my hormone levels detected a high FSH and a high LH, in your opinion do you think OPK would still be difficult to use?

Tish I also considered having reflexology before falling pg first time round

phew long post!!

Clure · 17/02/2009 08:14

millymolly do you mean being prescribed clomid for a second pregnancy? In which case consultant had no hesitancy in prescribing clomid for me second time round.

loulabell07 · 17/02/2009 08:41

Ahh! Thanks for that Clure!

Attila Wow! You know so much helpful information! Wish I could swap my consultant for you! What are your thoughts on acupuncture alongside taking Clomid? xx

MamaMaiasaura · 17/02/2009 09:56

Attila - thanks you are very helpful.

Lou - What to do if my period is late after taking clomiphene?

Firstly carry out a pregnancy test. If you are pregnant, please contact the fertility clinic. We will arrrange a scan for you for when you are about 7 weeks pregnant to check al is well at that stage.

If your pregnancy test is negative, you should repeat it when your period is two weeks late. If that test is still negative, you will need to bring on a period with Provera (which we will prescribe for you) as described above, and then restart clomiphene - you will usually be advised to try a higher dose, and a scan may also be arranged to monistor if the ovaries are producing any eggs.

hth

Re the accupuncture - my best friend used this for her ds1 and says she felt it really helped.

Hey ladies
I am on day 6 of norethisterone, counting down the days to af, does anyone know if the doc keeps prescribing progesterone for subsequent cycles if you dont bleed? Also has anyone had stomach cramps while taking it or something like it?

Clure · 17/02/2009 13:23

Hi stac I asked consultant yesterday if I could get progesterone from GP if my first (or indeed subsequent) cycles of clomid didn't work as my periods are often 2-3 months apart. He said i could. Don't know if this helps you at all.

stac14 · 17/02/2009 16:56

cheers clure
seems to be making the whole process longer lol but I got to do it. Are you going to take the progesterone?

Clure · 17/02/2009 17:09

Consultant offered it but I didn't take it. I'm hoping period will make an appearance in next couple of weeks, if not I will ask GP for some. Don't know which they might prescribe, provera or norethisterone.

BrandyBaby · 17/02/2009 20:35

Mummycat1
I feel exactly the way you do. So women just don?t feel the same way as we do. I have never tried vitex, but my friend did and got pregnant after 4 months. So I guess everyone?s body if different.

MamaMaiasaura · 17/02/2009 20:58

stac - yes i had tummy cramps and felt pre menstraul on provera. I think they would prescribe provera again if bfn and no period. If you dont bleed much after progesterone it is apparantly because of thin womb lining as you haven't ov'd.

I actually went out and bought opks today ust to see what happens. Did test and lines were very simliar so not sure if postive or not. Read literature and it said that breastfeeding can affect result too but did not say in which way. I will have to do some research. I think i have likely wasted money as PCOS as well which has a bearing on it all. But.. I am cd11 so i could be getting ready.. been having pains there but trying not to get hopes up. Also been getting hot at night.

OP posts:
BrandyBaby · 17/02/2009 21:09

Awen

OPKs work best if you DONT use your first pee of the day. And done drink a lot of water before you test. If the line is the same dark color as the control line... then it means 24-36 you will be ovulating. Good luck to you!!! Let me know when you ovulate, because we are on the same cycle days. I hope that we both ovulate soon!!!

MamaMaiasaura · 17/02/2009 21:22

It was pretty much the same dark colour but.. just did a search and it says hormone levels are elevated when breastfeeding so can give bad results. Also said as attila said, that with pcos might not give accurate reading. Ah well. Bought them now so will keep using this pack

OP posts:
MamaMaiasaura · 17/02/2009 21:23

Pee was around 3pm , be so cool if we both ov ~

stac14 · 17/02/2009 22:03

Thanks Awen, It has been quite sore this month but last month I had nothing, oh well not long to af then.

How are you all ladies?

Tish is it your visit to the consultant tomorrow? Have you done a list?

millymolly83 · 18/02/2009 01:32

can any one one help i have my appointment throw for the fertility clinic. but if i have not had a period by then am scared they wont give me clomid. because my gp told me theres nothing i can get to bring my period on is that true can any one help me. does any one no if they will give me clomid anyway even if i have not had a period?

BrandyBaby · 18/02/2009 04:25

Awen

If it was pretty much the same color than you should be ovulating 24-36 hours after you took that test. I don?t know if breastfeeding would effect your LH hormone. But isn?t the clomid suppose to help with pcos? I took two OPKs today and it keeps getting darker!! So I know its coming just around the corner for me. I?m sorry if I already asked you this before... What days & dosage are you taking?

AttilaTheMeerkat · 18/02/2009 07:42

The problem with OPK's is that they are not always accurate and can mislead the person particularly if PCOS is an issue. These kits measure LH but not every rise in this hormone is immediately followed by ovulation. Also these kits assume only one rise in LH every month. This is not true either.

Clomid can indeed help some women with PCOS but it needs to be carefully managed and monitored. Some women with PCOS are not actually suitable to take it (me being one).

Clomid's main job is to make the ovaries work harder. No monitoring on clomid is a no-no; you have no way of knowing whether its doing what its supposed to or not if you are not monitored. It can cause an exaggerated rise in LH; many PCOSers have an excess of this hormone to start with and clomid resistance can happen as a result.

Clomid certainly has its place and it does help some women to conceive but its use should be carefully monitored during fertility treatment.

BrandyBaby · 18/02/2009 08:02

AttilaTheMeerkat

I agree that women should be careful and have their doctor involved in the process. But what I was saying... That OPKs can be helpful to some, they work great for me. I do not have PCOS, and I do not know how the body works with OPKs when you have it. Thank you for that information.
