Hi all,
I'm not sure whether there is an upper age limit Beam, he didn't mention it.
I still seem to be bleeding lightly, apparently this is normal? Did anyone else experience bleeding when starting the pill?
There is a cheaper option available than straight IVF Fifi, embryo donation. It's a bit like adopting, but you actually give birth to the child, so none of the baggage.
One of the Eastern European clinics is offering embryo donation for 1000 euros, following blood tests, which is a lot cheaper than IVF. I think they do it in this country as well, but it's more of a private arrangement done at the clinic level. Just a thought!
I'm still trying to sort out a photo for DS's passport, because the last one was rejected, and that was done in a Kodak shop. It's such a faff!
I hope you are all looking for to an easter egg frenzy!

mylovelymonster · 09/04/2009 15:53

Hello. Popped in to add bit of support. Am 40 and recently found out am expecting LOno.2. 9weeks today, so early days.
First baby took two years, one MC at 3months, two mammoth ovarian cysts/surgery on poor little ovaries/six months recovery/13 months of fruitless bonking followed by easy pregnancy and 'reasonable' labour producing gorgeous two-and-a-bit year-old, born when I was 37.

This second pregnancy took us 3 months of hardly trying. Mother Nature working in mysterious ways, I imagine.

Good luck everyone! Age is nothing. Looking after yourself and keeping healthy is all.

fifitot · 09/04/2009 16:51

Hello mylovelymonster. Thanks for your story.

You are a spring chicken compared to me though!

Rowing - hmmm not sure I would go down that route but thanks for posting.

I feel OK most of the time, just sometimes feel I have a bit of unfinished business iyswkim. Ah well.....still thinking over whether to give it a go this time again.

I may give acupuncture a go actually. I had it when ttc DD not fertility related at that point but I think it helped actually.

Happy Easter all - lets hope all those easter eggs we eat will stimulate our own little eggs!!!

Isthisoneforreal · 09/04/2009 20:53

Just wanted to wish you all a lovely Easter and lots of baby dust.

Fifi - have heard good things about acupuncture. Would have given it a bash had Brighton not worked (would have been cheaper than Brighton too ).

Rowing I'm visiting DH's parents and DH isn't coming as he's off-shore. I seriously deserve a sainthood if I survive. Hoping they devote all time and attention to DS

"See" you all in 10 days.

BTW, hope you don't mind me sticking around. Can't bring myself to go on antenatal until I'm past 12wks.

rowingboat · 09/04/2009 23:10

ITOFR of course you can 'hang out' here. I would be the same.
Hopefully, in in-laws will take your DS to the beach and let you chill out a bit.
Still trying to sort out flights, aaargh!
Check in later!

beamel · 10/04/2009 07:44

Morning All !

ITOFR - would love you to hang out with us for a bit longer !

KiwEasterCat - sorry about the witch turing up !

rowing - best of luck with the arrangements, how long do you have to stay this time ?

Have a Happy Easter everyone !!

KiwEasterKat · 10/04/2009 13:38

Have eaten too much chocolate already - AF is NO excuse! oh the shame ... (Waves to everyone and waddles out the door)

KiwEasterKat · 10/04/2009 13:42

(Waddles back in to say ...)

Rowing, first time I've heard of embryo donation - good to know that there's at least one other route to go down.

Have been toying with the idea of acuncture, so would love to hear if it's worked or not for anyone else.

ITOFR, you are my hope! please stick around.

(Waves to Beam and all the other lovely laydees and waddles out again)

fruitbowl · 11/04/2009 23:32

(also waving to all the ladies but with a silly pair of flashing bunny ears)

Lots of warm fuzzy wishes to you all.

Fifi - love the idea of easter eggs spawning some lovely juicy ovarian ones! This means the more choc the better!

Had bloody awful fortnight. DD developed a nut allergy and then chickenpox when we were half way to scotland for easter hols, she's been screaming in pain, so we're all sleep deprived...

I'm on CD28 on 1st clomid cycle (loads of migraines and I've been a bitch to everyone) and of course imagining that it's worked the 1st month. Boy am I setting myself up for disappointment. Clinic told me only 10% succes rate "and then lower for you because you're older" (sigh)

I tried acupuncture a few weeks back. Will keep you posted.

Happy easter

beamel · 12/04/2009 11:02

Morning All !

Happy Easter Ladies. Anyone for a chocolate bunny ?

KiwEasterKat - After much deliberation I have decided to give the acupuncture thing a go after the hols. There is an 'alternative' health clinic in the next street (no, not the cocktail bar, thats the other way !), and the acupuncturist there specialises in fertility issues. Have been browsing the website for a couple weeks and now thinking nothing to loose, apart from the cash of course ! Will report back.

Hi rainbow - best of luck with the clomid. I get migraines too and they are a complete bitch. Sending lots of positive vibes your way and let us know how you get on !

(Pauses to demolish a king sized, dark chocolate bunny in three seconds flat before shuffling off for another cup of decaf !)

rowingboat · 12/04/2009 13:09

Hi everyone, happy Easter!!
Are you sick of chocolate yet?
Fingers crossed for you Fruit. I have read that taking Clomid at night, before bed helps to alleviate some of the symptoms. I suppose you are being a hulk when you are sleeping, so may boot your DH out of bed.
Fruit, at the very least you should be nice and relaxed after acupuncture, which can't be bad.
Kiwi are you still waddling around, I keep thinking of an Easter duckie when I read about you waddling. Quack!

fruitbowl · 13/04/2009 00:10

Thanks girls! Rowing you DO make me chuckle. I'm liking the image of me being a big green hulk and squishing DH out the bed. Mind you, the amount of choc that I've had, I'm probably squashing him in a minute without turning into the hulk! That'll teach him for buggering off fishing all day and leaving me with DD on easter Sunday

Where are you up to with your Hungary trips?

fruitbowl · 13/04/2009 20:45

eh? no-one been around today? V quiet. Someone bloody showed up at my place though didn't they? Effing Aunt F - I'm so angry I'm not even giving the icon the cute bloody bunny ears. (sticks lip out and stamps feet).

beamel · 13/04/2009 21:54

Oh no fruit - sorry about the old bag showing up ! No wonder you are She just has no idea !

for you !

JemimaPuddleduck07 · 13/04/2009 22:48

Hello, Can I join in please?! Have been lurking for a while.. Am incredibly lucky to have two gorgeous DDs but would love a third. I'm nearly 42 and have had 3 MC's so am wondering if maybe it's not to be. On a more positive note a friend of mine recently got pregnant at 44 after 3 years of TTC and gave birth at 45. She had a far easier and healthier pregnancy than I did at 30!

rowingboat · 13/04/2009 22:50

Fruuuuiiiit! That's rubbish! Boot her out!
Yay, I have booked an apartment in a house, with a garden, near the clinic, yay! Flippin' eck, it doesn't half take a long time to get somewhere half decent to stay when you're on a budget!
Now the stooopid flights. It's the weight bit I don't really 'get'. How are you supposed to know how much your luggage will weigh when you haven't even packed it yet??? Just an excuse to charge us extra at the airport.

vonsudenfed · 14/04/2009 05:59

Morning all (a somewhat early morning!) I've been woken up by period pain which can only mean one thing. Grrrrrr.

I think I'm going to the doctor this week - it's now been over a year and one m/c - so can anyone with more experience tell me what I ought to ask? At very least I want to rule out an infection - I've had a lot of pelvic pain over the last couple of months, and I ought to get it checked out. But other than that, don't know what else they might be looking for? (I'm not sure I want to know if my eggs are ropey tbh!)

And hello Jemima and welcome. And thankyou for the positive story, it's made me feel a bit better today.

The apartment sounds good, Rowing, how long are you staying for this time?

Fruitbowl, sorry to hear about AF. You sound like you've had a rough week all round.

And Fifi, too. Don't know what to say except . Hope you've treated yourself over Easter.

Beamel, do let us know about the acupuncture. I'm wondering about it too, despite extreme fear of having needles stuck in me!

Right, onwards and upwards. What can I usefully do with being up at 6am?

fifitot · 14/04/2009 08:27

Hello everyone - hope you all had a good Easter. I am still mulling things over but not in a desperate way, just deciding if whether in 10 or so days time I need to gird my loins for 5 days of BDing. Am 46 in June so maybe will call it a day then if nothing has happened. Still thinking about acupuncture and Beamel would love to hear from you on how it goes.

Jemima - welcome and nice to hear about your friend. I was 42 when I had DD so you are not in the doldrums like me at least!

Vonsud - I went to the docs before I had DD and tbh they just referred me to the gynae clinic. Once there they weren't that bothered about my age. Took bloods for day 21 test and sent DH for sperm count. Did an internal and then were going to send me for a lap and dye - just to check all working well. Worth going if you are getting pelvic pain.

gonepearshaped · 14/04/2009 11:45

Hello all, just wanted to check in, AF arrived day 30, bit sad to see the old bag but then after a 32 day cycle and and 24 day cycle I was kind of pleased to see her turn up vaguely on schedule.

Bit cross with FF, my ov day shifted around 3 times and I'm still not sure it even happened, ho hum. Welcome to Jemima, very good to hear about yr friend, stories like that keep me positive.

Am also thinking about acupuncture, but will have to try to fit it in next time I'm in UK - don't suppose they'll do an 'I'm only here for a week' express version

Also gearing my self up to try to talk to a local doctor about general lack of bfp. Its a bit scary thinking of navigating foreign health service and language barrier at same time. Fifitot I do know what you mean, my cycle seems so messy I'm gearing up for a good two weeks of BD, I'm knackered just thinking about it

Rowing, good luck with all yr planning for Hungary, Fruit, I hope the Clomid thing goes well and you manage to avoid the migraines.

beamel · 14/04/2009 13:12

Hi All,

Just popped in to say first acupuncture appointment made for Friday. Will let you know how it goes !

Welcome Jemima and hi to GPS, good to hear from you.

fruitbowl · 14/04/2009 22:32

Hi ladies

Yes, welcome indeed Jemima (pats sofa).

Rowing - apartment sounds nice, well done. luggage? You say you want to take luggage? Damn cheek! (seriously good luck with the packing). When you off?

vonSF - sorry about AF and she woke you up so early - we always knew she was an inconsiderate trollop. Good luck at the docs. They should offer you all the routine tests. Def sounds sensible to ask about the pelvic pain.

Hi Fifi - I do sympathise. It's so hard deciding if and when to stop TTC isn't it? We're planning to stop after these next few
months of clomid. I'm starting to think that if it's not happening for me that my body knows best and I should respect it if yswim?

GonePS sorry about AF pitching up at yours too. Whereabouts are you if you don't mind saying? Good luck with docs.

Good luck with the acu beamel I survived my "pricking" the other week and am back for more next week. I think it's really interesting finding out how it all works. It wasn't painful, just with some of the needles a strong sensation, similar to a tens machine pulse, I found. Let us know how you get on

meant to be applying for a job (hence mammoth distracting post)...

Byee x

gonepearshaped · 14/04/2009 23:08

Hi Fruit,

I'm in Italy, I love it here but have to admit finding it hard to get to a decent level with the language - English is pretty simplistic by comparison (that or my brain's as knackered as my ovaries )

Anyway I'm convincing myself that at 41 I'm still in with a chance and judging by my FF confusions maybe our timing is still not good enough

Good luck with the job app!

fruitbowl · 15/04/2009 00:17

Ooh Italy sounds lovely. Good luck with timing it right - at 41 you're just a spring chick!

KiwiKat · 15/04/2009 14:46

Sorry to hear that the witch has been visiting, Fruit and Vonsudenfed. Beamel, I want to hear all the details of the acupuncture, and Fruit, what are your thoughts? What sort of cost are we looking at, and how long does it take? Fifi, you reckon it helped you with your dd?

Am back on the non-drinking thing after a rather boozy couple of days over Easter. So much easier to have none than stop after one, don't you think?

Have been slightly less piggy with the chocolate so am no longer waddling, but DEFINITELY wore the wrong clothes to work today - I'm roasting! Rowingboat, you can now picture me as a kiwi with cat's whiskers on a rotisserie.

Hope some of you are able to enjoy a little of this lovely sunshine.

fifitot · 15/04/2009 16:18

KiwiKat - I think it just helped 'balance' my chi or whatever! Made me feel relaxed that's for sure and who knows......but feel it did help me conceive. Expensive though - £25 a time and I went twice a week at first!
