Thank you for that image Rhet! Are you going on holiday or something other? You're not a teacher are you? Actually no, you would already be in France by now if you were.
Well, thank you for your kind thoughts, but you can all uncross your fingers, AF is here. So that's another peculiar 30 day cycle.
Was supposed to start temping today, but left the thermometer on a bookshelf, so had to get up and then it was all ruined, so I broke the thermometer and stomped around the house.
Must remember 'Puuut thermoometer unnder piiillow!'
Now crossing fingers for Herb

herbaceous · 14/08/2008 09:52

BUMMER boaty. And rhetoritician - eat the pate, already. If anything's implanted it won't be accessing any pate blood supply yet. And if it hasn't, live it up instead. That's my policy.

Don't cross fingers too hard ladies. I'd hate for you to be disappointed too. I have sore boobs, but then often do pre-AF. A few days ago had cramps, and pains in 'area', but then sometimes get those, too. Tea tasted funny this morning, but then I had just used mouthwash! Why did she tell me about pulses!! She's just made the 2WW madness even worse!

rhetorician · 14/08/2008 11:15

drat and double drat to AF rowing; not on hols yet (I'm a university teacher, so some would say I'm always on holiday!!); a million and one things to do before term begins, including my week in the sun. Definitely going for the pate. On CD15 now, and in my less than optimistic way (it's just my nature) going to pack the tampons and thermometer (haven't charted a couple of cycles, and realise that not knowing what's going on is at least as stressful as temping) on the grounds that if AF hasn't turned up by the time I come back then I can take a test when I get home. If I prepare for the worst then everything else is better - does that make sense? Clearly I'm not big on positive thinking

Read somewhere (browsing reading the fertility books in Waterstones) that one study found that 52% of women aged 41-44 conceived within 4 cycles . I assume this must mean women who are ovulating regularly and time intercourse properly. I'm clearly in the other 48%...although of course I leapt upon the statistic with joy and a glint in my eye.

herb I hate the way that all the signs are ambiguous; even the absence of signs can be a sign. It's exhausting - particularly when you half suspect that you are hallucinating dratted 'signs'.

gem2mum · 14/08/2008 19:47

Herb, your symptoms sound hopeful? Lets all send some pulses your way! Sorry about the AF Rowing. No better news for me either. Consultants secretary rang today to say my day 21 blood test showed that I hadn't ovulated (even with taking clomid)so my promising looking egg on the scan has probably shriveled up by now. Looks like I'm in for another 67 day cycle. Although they said they would scan me next month and give me an injection to release the egg....thought that was what clomid was supposed to do Oh well, at least DS got good enough A levels to get into Liverpool uni

cece · 14/08/2008 20:39

rowing boat - oh what a shame, I was so hopeful for you this month.

rhetorician - I am clearly one of the 48% as well although I had no trouble last year

herb - I am crossing my fingers for you

gem - sorry to hear about your blood test results, although they do seem to be looking after you. Well done to your DS.. Ah university, the bast days of your life.... [wistful emotion]

gem2mum · 15/08/2008 19:58

mmm, I'm with you on that Cece. I didnt have any trouble until my mc last year and since then, nothing!

cece · 15/08/2008 21:50

gem - have your periods changed since your last mc? - mine are being very odd...

BroodyBroodyBroody · 16/08/2008 09:37

Hi everyone....this morning I got a BFP!!

Although you never know for sure, I've had a range of symptoms starting 13 days ago (3dpo!!??) when I suddenly felt bone-tired. I then started with cramping (but thought it was AF), then I had some queasiness and my taste buds started going funny. I was asleep last night at 9.30pm, unheard of really.

Hope everyone else is doing well. Us over-40s can still pull it off after all!!

rhetorician · 16/08/2008 10:34

broody wow! congratulations. That's fantastic - I hope everything continues to go well. Let's hope some of us will be joining you soon

What symptoms did you have 3dpo then? I'm about there now, and feel oddly weepy. Probably nothing - just means that I am getting fed up with the strangely tedious rollercoaster that is TTC.

We'll see - but it's a great boost to have a graduate. Yay!

BroodyBroodyBroody · 16/08/2008 12:47

Thanks for your best wishes! It's very early days so one day at a time for awhile I guess..

It was odd because I was just about to log onto MN, got settled when I just felt really tired. It just came from nowhere really and it felt like a real, core tiredness. I kept thinking, 'but it's only 3dpo maximum, how could a barely fertilised egg cause any pg symptoms?', etc, etc. I've had cramps every day since 3dpo too (which I did think was a bit odd because I don't usually get AF cramps until the flow has started). I kept putting off testing until today but the second line showed up within about 15-20seconds, I was more shocked at that I think!

Fingers crossed for everyone else - any 40+ yr old who gets a BFP improves the statistics for those 40+yr olds still ttc!

cece · 16/08/2008 12:56

Congratulations broody

heron22 · 16/08/2008 16:08

hi broody, just saw ur post, CONGRATS !!!!

put ur feet up, take it easy

BroodyBroodyBroody · 16/08/2008 16:38

Many thanks for your congratulations! I guess I wasn't on this thread for very long but I wish you all the very best of luck ttc in the weeks and months to come.

rowingboat · 16/08/2008 17:12

Broody, thank goodness! Finally another BFP! Yay to you and sticky, sticky vibes!
So who's next? [curious face]
I am trying to temp this month, but so far have forgotten. Hmm! Must try harder! It's just not what I think about in the morning - where's me thermometer? More like - where's my breakfast?

This month I think I will look into IVF abroad, costs etc... starting to think that the supposedly, 'patent' tube is not fully functioning either. Oh well, probably pay-back for all those days of drunken debauchery.

ladymac · 16/08/2008 18:23

Well done Broody.

Thought I'd let you all know how I'm doing. Currently 5+5 so further on than last time, hurray! Still don't know when I'm supposed to relax and enjoy it though as there is so far to go. Have had minor period type pain now and again, not cramping just low pain. Remember having this in my pregnancy with dd3 but can't remember whether I had it at this sort of time. All of this is making me a jumpy 'knicker checker' - I'm looking for blood at the slightest twinge. Had a real weepy time mid week because I'm so all over the place. I'm happy but so worried at all the things that can possibly go wrong.

Gem and other 'irregulars' - don't know if this has been mentioned on here before but I was recommended an Ayurvedic herb called Shatavari Plus to regulate my cycle after my m/c. It's made by a company called Pukka. As I've said on here before, anything is worth a try!

roquefortlover · 17/08/2008 15:08

Hello all and welcome to all the new people! I have been lurking for a while after my mc, thinking about what to do next...anyway, we decided to carry on ttc after waiting for first AF to arrive, which it duly did a couple of weeks ago!

I've been back on the CB monitor and it thought i was ov'ing this cycle and we did the deed at the right times so am now on the 2WW again with fingers crossed!

I know it would be very lucky to conceive straight away but have heard of increased fertility after mc so you never know. Off on hols tomorrow to France so have been following discussions on pate and wine with interest! I think i will indulge in both in a restrained way, I always have before when ttc anyway.

Good to hear of BFPs and maybe this month will be lucky for the rest of us!

xxx

RL

ladymac · 17/08/2008 16:46

Good luck Roquefort. I conceived 2nd cycle after m/c so fingers crossed for you.

Enjoy your hols - I'm very jealous of the wine and pate. Don't forget to finish the meal off with some nice soft cheese!

rhetorician · 17/08/2008 17:58

roquefort - good to see you back. Good friend of mine also conceived 2nd cycle after miscarriage, so fingers crossed for you. My theory is that pate, wine etc in moderation are probably fine before you know for sure that you are pregnant - if your body can't tell you that you need to avoid certain things it makes sense that they can't harm you. Of course, no-one is suggesting all-night binge drinking (it's a very long time since I was able for that!!)...

I fully intend to have a couple of glasses of something fine as I tick down to the inevitable..

roquefortlover · 17/08/2008 18:18

Thanks for good wishes ladymac and rhetorician (fab name btw). You have both got me feeling hopeful!!

rhetorician, I feel exactly like you on the forbidden foods issue - also, nothing has even implanted this early has it so not sure how much effect what i eat has on it iyswim. I think I would feel more fed up if I abstained and then got a BFN than i would feel guilty if I indulge and get BFP, so on that basis off I go!

Forecast is for rain but then it always rains on our hols - ds2 (3) said 'we will need our wellies mummy". Sad but true. We always have a good time anyway though!

rowingboat · 18/08/2008 10:44

Hi Roque, I'm glad to hear you are sounding so positive and things could be happening. Enjoy your holiday, as long as you aren't crawling home on all fours every night, I'm sure you will be fine.

Juicylucytoo · 18/08/2008 12:36

Well done Broody [samil] Sending you lots of sticky vibes

I just wish we were all only here for a short time!

But your good news gives us all something to hope for.

RL - I conceived my DS 3mths after mc, after ttcing for nearly 2 years. Fingers crossed for you x

cece · 18/08/2008 13:47

Feeling fed up.

I have just phoned up the surgery to ask them to print off all my test results to take with me to the hospital on Weds.

I asked for the FSH test results to be included. Receptionist said you haven't had that one done but you did have a thyroid test done in July. says I! No I had a FSH test. No says the receptionist you had a TSH test. So looks like they did the wrong test. It definitely was FSH on the form as I discussed it with the GP. I am so cross

rhetorician · 18/08/2008 14:05

cece, I am not surprised you are cross! It really annoys me that doctors on the one hand wag fingers and make faces when you say that you are TTC in the prime of life, and on the other drag their feet, make mistakes and generally make everything go more slowly than it needs to.

How infuriating for you; v. sorry for you.

Like half this thread I am off to France soon to while away the TWW. Don't know what to think this time - not expecting anything to happen really (on the grounds that it hasn't so far...) and not sure whether to get hopeful or not. So some sunshine and wine will be a nice distraction I hope.

cece · 18/08/2008 18:38

There must have been a mistake in the lab or something as it definitely said FSH 5 day test on the form I gave to the blood test nurse. And I remember saying to the GP about FSH and she seemed quite surprised that I knew what it was.

Well we shall see what the consultant says on Weds!

Juicylucytoo · 19/08/2008 10:36

cece on your behalf. Sometimes you feel like you have to take the bloods to the flipping lab yourself! I had to have regular bloods done at Barts once - arrive one minute after they'd closed and had to badger the lab tech 3 times - finally he told me another ward I could go to to get it done . The NHS is sometimes really pants.

Good luck with the TWW rhetorician - enjoy the sun (?) and the wine...hopefully it'll be the last you're allowed in a while
