What other costs are involved apart from their advertised prices? I assume flights and hotels are additional? How long were you out there for? Sorry for all the q's! It looks about £1000 cheaper than UK but how much does it cost to get/stay out there? Or alternatively if you don't mind me speaking bluntly how much did it cost all in excluding drugs (cause I know they vary from person to person)? (please feel free to ignore my last question if you think I'm being too cheeky!)

nomoremagnolia · 06/01/2009 16:05

lap not booked yet - I'm on the waiting list We were planning on doing an IVF cycle in Feb but now the EP and lap are putting it further back

hmm not as cheap as I thought then - our clinic said a cycle would cost £3500 including drugs as I'm on lowest drugs and there won't be any charge for consultation as we've done a cycle with them already. Thanks for answering my q's anyway. Think we'll hold tight and stay local.

nomoremagnolia · 06/01/2009 16:31

£2800 without drugs if you wanted to compare it

lottie - just curious why you spent 10 days in Norway? I did 3 IVFs in Denmark and only had to stay 3 nights each time. No car rental as we stayed centrally and took buses or taxis - however they have an amazing transport system.

By doing all the scans and monitoring here in the UK with the NHS (free) you can minimise your time overseas greatly and save £1000. The clinics here are very used to it. I know Hammersmith has 'loads' of overseas patients that they just monitor here in the UK. Most are either older patients or those who require donor sperm.

In Denmark treatment is £2100 + £220 if you want to freeze any amount of embryos. No fee for consultation there but it's not even necessary if you have a consultant here.

I assume the overseas clinics don't imagine you could have joint care but if your consulting and scans are done here you can just call over results. The clinics here that do this jointly call it 'overseas monitoring'. I was offered it here as an option. It's also a great way to get a second opinion constantly throughout your cycle. I could never afford to take that many days off work (paid or unpaid) unless I gave up my annual leave.

Happy 2009 all - sorry that I have been MIA. We went to France on 27th to see the outlaws and family and had NO INTERNET!!!! aaaagh, it was like my bloody hands had been cut off.

We are now back after a horrific journey home in snow and then some spectacular buracracy regarding my dog and her pet passport.

Hope you all had fab xmas's and new years?

welcome to all the newbies.

I am still here and as far as I know still pregnant. We have our scan tomorrow morning at 0930. I have had absolutely dreadful sickness and tiredness during the past week. Much, much, much worse than last time with my LO. Not sure if it is the sheer amount of drugs or related to the PG.

I have also got incredibly itchy hands and really dry skin. so need to get all that checked out as it could be hormone related.

How are you all. Just trying to catchup with a weeks worth of posts, but brain is tired..
RB - how are you?
Soosy, LL, Spook?? In fact all ladies??
and Mowmi?? - good luck for you too tomorrow. I have moved my scan forward as couldn't possibly exist for another three days without knowing something. So I am now as nervous as hell!

Right off to check other boards and stuff and ensure the world hasn't come to an end whilst I have been MIA.... take care all hugs xxxxxx

nomoremagnolia · 06/01/2009 21:22

LL How about heading out of London? Oxford's not too far to go and seemingly much cheaper www.fert.org.uk

Hi Flibberty - no internet! What! You poor dear, have a cup of tea! Good to hear you are feeling sicky, if you know what I mean.
Kanuck, thanks for that information about overseas monitoring, will look into that pronto. The time spent away is the biggest pain, as you say it eats up annual leave and adds to the costs of an expensive procedure.
The variables of the whole thing never cease to amaze me, I think you are dead right about the website Lottie. I used Eblogger for my review/information site, it can be quite flexible and you can make a lot of changes to the format.
Apparently, in the US there is a garage sale site for left over drugs from IVF, which would be amazing for people here. Do you think we would be allowed to do that in the UK. I know when I finish with IVF, I would be happy to donate any of the left over drugs (whatever could be stored at room temp). I wonder where the law stands on this, if it were a gift?
Funny thing, finished AF on Friday, it much lighter than normal, then started to have AF type cramps, particularly on the left side, ended up in bed with pain killers. Today the pain has subsided and I am bleeding dark blood. I didn't have any pg tests so used an ovulation kit, to see what my HCG levels were, but it was very faint.
Off to the doctors this afternoon to check it out though. I am thinking ovarian cyst possible, but we'll see later.

spook · 07/01/2009 12:27

Hi girls,
RB-how are you feeling? Let us know what the doctor says? Hope you're ok.
Mowmi and Flibberty (welcome back ) How were the scans????? Can't wait to hear! And I'm glad you're feeling so horribly bloody pregnant Flibberty! That can only be a good thing. I'll put up with all the morning sickness, sciatica, carpal tunnel, spd and constipation if it meant this IVF had worked!!! (all of which I have suffered in previous pregnancies )
I had my scan yesterday and I've downregged very nicely thankyou so start my stims tonight. We had a trial run at the clinic yesterday with DH injecting me....it really bloody hurt! Infact it made me cry! I could see the nurse looking at me thinking "what a wuss". That was my thigh so we're going to try my tummy tonight...far more blubber. Either way, I'm really not looking forward to the next 12 days.
BTW-on the drugs front...DH has his own pharmacies and has said he will fill scripts at a hugely reduced rate if you need him. Most pharmacies have a 50% mark up on private scripts...he will do 20%. Sorry-didn't mean that to be an advert, but I know how crippling the drugs costs are. Mine should have been £1,300 because I'm on such a long cycle and high dose of Menopaur. Cat me if you need to!

flibbertywidget · 07/01/2009 15:09

Hi ladies
We had our scan this morning and saw a little beanie and a heartbeat beating away at 120bpm. I was convinced I saw another sac. But the sonographer said no. So DH is feeling a little relieved at just the one. It was such a relief to see it. A beautiful moment.

spook sweetie thinking of you.. hope the stimms starts working well for you. Wishing you the best of luck for the next few weeks.

Right off to get a hot chocolate...xxxxxx

Hi Ladies,

Bad news from me I'm afraid. They could only see a small sack with nothing inside it. We've been given odds of 80% not viable - 10% ectopic - 10% viable. The doctor who scanned us didn't seem at all hopeful, Geeta made time for us and said it could just be a late implant and to stay hopeful. I've got another scan on Tuesday but I fear the worst and am just waiting for the bleeding to start.
I'm so sad - had to come home and go to bed (where i am now!) DH was in pieces but had to go back to work.

Flibberty - so happy for you - glad you got your confirmation!! big hug to you.

Catch up properly at the weekend.

Love to all x
