I just wanted to start a thread for those who’ve been trying for a little while (or a long while) and it doesn’t seem to be happening. It’s great seeing all the positives on the TTC threads but I’m starting to find it a little disheartening as it seems to be happening quickly for almost everyone but me! Statistics seem to vary but suggest between 60-70% of couples get pregnant within three months. We’ll be heading into cycle 5 shortly TTC our first, both in our early 30s.

Is anyone else in a similar situation?

@RRAEE thanks!

@YouveGotAFastCar oh fab, hope it sticks for you 😁🙏

Hi ladies.

After TTC for so long, I should probably know the answer to this.

I’ve been pretty rubbish at tracking this month (OPK’s), I strangely got a peak reading on one opk CD18, did another with a different brand (same pee sample) and was negative. Kind of just wrote it off thinking I’ve got a busy month this month so will try again next cycle and put it to the back of my mind.

Yesterday I started having cramps and usual ovulation symptoms, so I did an opk and it was a strong peak (CD24 so back to the irregular cycles 🙄).

Anyway my question is - do you actually still ovulate in the longer cycle? Dr google has conflicting information. Is it just that it’s harder to detect ovulation with it being a longer cycle, or that you don’t ovulate at all?

I’ve still semi wrote this month off so I’m not getting too worked up about it, but for future reference 🙂.

TIA x

Daniki · 04/08/2024 11:42

@Marie1990x I'm not too sure tbh but I'd just go off that anyway and treat it as ovulation. Remind me do you have PCOS or similar?

My best friend told me last night she is pregnant, and I'm very happy for her and was expecting it but still feel so sad as we were pregnant with our second child together, due a few days apart but I miscarried. It's making me spiral as to why I'm seemingly infertile now 🙈

Marie1990x · 04/08/2024 14:04

@Daniki yeah I will definitely start counting from today as ovulation. I won’t hold my breath as it’s been so hectic I haven’t even given it much thought this cycle. It’s quite intense cramps this time weirdly and still continuing today. If I was nearing AF I would definitely think it was imminent.

I have suspected PCOS but I haven’t had it confirmed. I still get strong peaks that coincide with other ovulation symptoms, so it’s all very confusing.

Me and my husband have decided now though not to put pressure on it and just resigning to the fact we’ll probably just have one child and count our blessings we have her. I never thought I’d get to the point of just taking a step back, but there’s only so much time you can go on for isn’t there.

Ahh gosh that must be hard 🙁. You’re on the right path now though and really really hoping you get your BFP soon. When you did your fertility tests did anything come back as to what was causing you not to catch on?

Daniki · 04/08/2024 14:18

@Marie1990x nothing! My husbands sperm anayslis was fine too although his motility was 3 when they like it 4+ so not sure if that's the only thing. I do have one ovary that's small and has few follicles but the other one is quite big with loads of follicles so cancels it out unless I keep ovulating from the bad side 😂
It's just so frustrating to going from getting pregnant easily a few times to absolutely nothing since May last year 🙈 I'm at the same point too will see how we get on with this round of IVF, if we get many embryos or anything and go from there!

That is so frustrating for you, it try and get it confirmed or maybe start on myo inositol to see if that helps?

Marie1990x · 04/08/2024 16:19

@Daniki aghhh I bet that’s so infuriating that there’s nothing noticeably stopping you from conceiving 😣. Hopefully you get lots of healthy embryos and it’s successful 🤞🏻 won’t be long now!!!

I started a supplement and it brought my cycles down to 30 days the last 2 cycles but I ran out and forgot to order more this time, so I might look into ordering more soon. To be honest I think I’ll just wait and see the next few months, give my mind a rest as it’s so easy to obsess over isn’t it.

I used my last opk yesterday and going to try not buy any more either. I have a few cheapie hcg’s that will probably still get used up at the end of this cycle then try avoid those too. I think I’m like 90% given up now 😂

Daniki · 04/08/2024 16:37

@Marie1990x yea it's nice for the mind to just stop doing these things isn't it! I haven't used an opk in a few cycles and it's great! I haven't been obsessing about what day in the cycle I am either which is refreshing 😂
Hopefully the more relaxed approach works 👌 I'm just reading the "it starts with an egg" book and it's quite interesting read!

Marie1990x · 04/08/2024 19:06

@Daniki thats great that you’ve managed to be chill. I bet it’s a relief that it’s now in the hands of the fertility experts to do their thing! You don’t realise how much it takes over your life do you! I was similar when I started with the cramps yesterday and checked my calendar couldn’t believe it was CD24. Usually I’m aware of every single thing/day.

Ah I’ve heard good things about that book. Is it worth a read?

Daniki · 04/08/2024 21:28

@Marie1990x oh absolutely, and it takes the joy out of life. I'm actually delighted that it's not down to us this month, don't have to worry about sex or anything 😂😂
I think so but it can also have the negative affect of making you over think everything too! I was more interested in what she has to say about supplements etc!

Marie1990x · 05/08/2024 13:01

@Daniki hahaha I bet! It’s great not having to time dtd 😂.

We did dtd the day of my peak and last night. It was surprisingly my husband who said we should. Just as I’m getting more laid back about it he’s getting more concerned about timing it right, typical!

Ahh yeah I can imagine. I don’t think I can do with any more second guessing and over thinking at the moment 😂.

ImAFluffyBunny · 07/08/2024 23:01

How is everyone going this cycle?
After my long cycle last month (37 days) this month it’s only been 22 days and AF started yesterday 🤦🏼‍♀️ no idea what’s going on at the moment as I’m normally like clockwork. Was talking to my other half earlier saying I’m concerned something is wrong as we are going into cycle 8 of TTC and still nothing (which I know can be normal), just feeling a bit worried.

Confusedddddddd · 08/08/2024 22:41

@ImAFluffyBunny depending on your age it might be worth getting in touch with go to get blood tests?

We're onto cycle 16 I think. Sadly I had some results back from my last scan and I've grown yet another cyst. We wanted to start IVF in the next couple of months but now I have 2 large cysts on one of my ovaries I'm worried they are going to say I have to have surgery to remove them first (waiting for a call back next week). Previously they said they could go ahead but wouldn't touch the ovary with the large cyst (but there weren't many follicles on it anyway). I have private health insurance so hopefully I can get the cyst removal covered by that if needed.

It's frustrating, these cysts are giving me quite a bit of pain but I just want our last baby so that I can tell them to just remove the whole ovary. And when I had an op last year the cyst grew straight back so not much point in removing the them.

Sorry to hear you've got another cyst and are in pain. Hopefully you’ll get the go ahead to still get to start ivf soon 🤞🏻
I’m 30 (31 next month) so wasn’t sure if I’d have to wait until the year for TTC or if I could go ahead and see someone now if my cycles are a bit out at the moment. Also wasn’t sure whether to wait to see what happens this next cycle.

Confusedddddddd · 09/08/2024 09:41

@ImAFluffyBunny Your GP might be willing to do the blood tests before the 12m if your cycles are irregular. You could also do the test through Randox health it's only £30.

Ahh thank you for that, I honestly thought the GP would turn me away as it’s been under 12 months of TTC. Just a bit odd my cycles are usually the same length but it’s changed the last 2 cycles.

Marie1990x · 12/08/2024 20:57

Evening ladies. How is everyone getting on?

Before I fully close the door on ttc, I have booked a doctors appointment for Friday. I was just wondering if anyone has had fertility tests/bloods via their GP?

I already have a DD so know that treatment wouldn’t be considered via the NHS, but would they possibly run bloods or anything? I’d just like to know if there is something stopping it from happening and then I’d have some form of closure x

Daniki · 12/08/2024 21:13

@Marie1990x I'm in Ireland so diff to NHS but I get all my bloods etc done through my GP and take my results to the consultant. I can't see why your GP wouldn't refer though if you're having issues! X

RRAEE · 12/08/2024 21:19

I had all my tests and have confirmed PCOS so looks like it's gunna be even more difficult for me. I knew already that i probably had this as was mentioned when i was early teens but was never confirmed. My progesterone isn't right either but i think this is because i ovulated later in my cycle so they may do that test again but currently waiting to be referred for next steps but doesn't look like that will happen that soon. 😕

I already feeling like just giving up.

Daniki · 12/08/2024 21:33

@RRAEE it's good tho to have a diagnosis as then there is something to work with.
Myo inistol seems to be very beneficial for PCOS and the medicated trigger cycles might do the trick for you? 🙂

BirdIsland · 12/08/2024 21:36

@Marie1990x my GP did fertility tests on the NHS despite me already having DC. NHS covered tests and a consultation with a fertility clinic, anything after that had to be privately funded.

RRAEE · 12/08/2024 21:37

@Daniki I've just brought some of that today as managed to get 3 for 2 deal at superdrug. Im hoping it does something as theres mixed reviews but willing to try anything at this point.

How are you getting on?

Daniki · 12/08/2024 21:39

@RRAEE should hopefully do some good, lots of positive things iv read especially on these forums! Getting on ok, will hopefully have my egg collection this week 🙏

RRAEE · 12/08/2024 21:45

@Daniki 🤞🏻🤞🏻 hopefully it does something for me and then ill see what happens when they refer me.

And ohh Good Luck ! 🤞🏻 ☘️✨ hope all goes well 🙂

Daniki · 12/08/2024 21:48

@RRAEE thank you! And best of luck with the supplements etc I hope it works and you're not waiting to long to get seen!

Marie1990x · 12/08/2024 22:08

thanks so much for the info. Hopefully mine will do similar, I think at this stage I’d just like to know if there’s a valid reason it’s not happening.

@Daniki fingers crossed you get your egg collection this week 😊🤞🏻 sending you luck

@RRAEE sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Did they give you any guidance on it?
I’m pretty sure I have PCOS also, given my hertility results and having quite a lot of the symptoms 😣
