People falling pregnant first month!?

NervyBee · 22/11/2023 14:20

I feel like this is more common than we're led to believe

Among my friends, all late 20s early 30s, about 9 of them conceived first month and 3 others month 2 after saying they think they hadn't time their ovulation dates right. So, accounting for the ovulation dating mistake, it's really still the first 'proper' try.

My best friend also just fell pregnant first month. She feels unprepared, said she was expecting it to take 6 months or so, as that's what lots of relatives told her, so she started trying earlier to account for that.

It can be deflating if you're the only one that's been trying for a while!

I am 42 and got pregnant first month and was stunned.

Cas112 · 22/11/2023 14:41

Took me 14 months to conceive.. I then had a miscarriage and conceived the first month after that leading to a successful pregnancy.

People who are less likely to talk about it taking longer than they like than people who are successful straight away

OhDoh · 22/11/2023 14:43

Everyone is different, we conceived the first month but one friend tried for 4 years. Nothing medically wrong either. I've had 5 friends do IVF also all in the last 2 years.

Whataretheodds · 22/11/2023 14:43

I think some women (def not all) make out they conceived more quickly - earlier months don't count because they weren't trying/tracking ovulation/got dates mixed up. They don't genuinely count from when they first had unprotected sex. Take it with a pinch of salt.

Bear in mind that getting pregnant quickly doesn't mean you'll have a baby sooner. I had no issues getting pregnant but had 2 MCs in a row. I'm pregnant now due 20 months after I first conceived.

Some men try and try and it just doesn't happen for them

VestPantsandSocks · 22/11/2023 14:44

I found that Day 16 of my cycle was very good for conceiving. At the time, all the information was to focus up to day 14.

Goldendoodlelover · 22/11/2023 14:45

Hi @NervyBee I definitely know what you mean. I seem to know a lot of people who are super fertile coming off the pill - one of my bridesmaids and my sister in law both conceived first month coming off the pill. Another very good friend of mine started ttc in February and fell pregnant in March, and another one of my bridesmaids fell pregnant on her honeymoon. And yet here I am 12 months later never having had a glimmer of a bfp!

violetcuriosity · 22/11/2023 14:46

I have fallen pregnant on the first month of trying with 2 different men. Both times I was expecting it to take around 6 months.

AnnieStar12 · 22/11/2023 14:48

I've believe it's around third of couples conceive first time and most others will conceive within a year. It's only then 10% of couples who struggle with fertility issues beyond that.
But it's all so random and unfair!
I know it is deflating when it feels everyone around you is falling pregnant and making it seem so easy.

Mystro202 · 22/11/2023 14:48

I was pregnant in the first month of trying with my first 3. Number 3 must have been conceived about a week after I came off the pill. Complete shock! Midwife said some couples are both super fertile.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 22/11/2023 14:51

I do think it’s more common than people think. I also think it depends on who you know how quickly you expect to get pregnant. I was expecting to conceive in the first month because women in my family tend to get pregnant very quickly (my mum conceived both me and my sister the first month of trying and her mum and sisters also got pregnant very quickly). I was disappointed and a bit surprised when I didn’t conceive the first month. I did conceive the second month though so I’m very lucky and I’m not complaining at all.

romdowa · 22/11/2023 14:56

I used think all these stories of people getting pregnant after a one night stand where nonsense and there was no way half of them where true. Until I got pregnant after having unprotected sex Once with my dp. I was extremely shocked , I had expected it to take a lot longer.

ReadtheReviews · 22/11/2023 14:58

At 39 with my second, yep.

Ygfrhj · 22/11/2023 14:58

I had heard and read a lot about how it can take a long time, fertility issues are common, not to expect it to happen immediately. So I thought we had months of trying but we conceived immediately, age 35 and it did mess up other plans a bit happening so fast. I don't mention it to anyone as it feels insensitive in case they struggled.

Bendysnap · 22/11/2023 14:59

I got pregnant first month of trying 8 times - had 6 mc though. Sometimes being too fertile is not a good thing as I was holding on to not so healthy embryos

TooOldForThisNonsense · 22/11/2023 15:00

I got pregnant first month first time and second month second time. Aged 32 and 34

iutiut · 22/11/2023 15:01

Had my wedding in April, started trying in May and baby was born early March next year. I was 32 at the time.

Had 3 more pregnancies after including 2 miscarriages, but each time fell pregnant within the first month of trying. Both Hubby and I was surprised how quick it was.

FunkyMonks · 22/11/2023 15:06

Happened to me twice both first month of trying and I also thought it would take months of trying to conceive.

I'm grateful and feel very fortunate that I was Lucky to have two babies so quickly when I have seen those I love and care for not be so fortunate.

Applesandpears23 · 22/11/2023 14:39

I am 42 and got pregnant first month and was stunned.

I also got pregnant at 42 the first night we tried.

blackfluffycat · 22/11/2023 15:18

First or second with both.

Decided to try when our dd was just over a year as had no idea how long it would take. 22 months between them.

ColleenDonaghy · 22/11/2023 15:21

I conceived the first month each of the three times I TTC, all in my mid 30s. So every month I've had unprotected sex, I've gotten pregnant.

I am very very very careful now Grin

I think it probably happens a lot, it's not something people mention in real life as it could be a bit insensitive. Likewise it takes a bit longer for plenty of couples.

NorthernAttitude · 22/11/2023 15:23

I fell pregnant first month with my first, it took a year with my second. You never know how it's going to go.

DeedlessIndeed · 22/11/2023 15:23

Yes, I fell into this trap.

Read everything online and was convinced conception would be long winded.

1st month just decided to have fun, not stress and settle in for the longhaul.

DTD lots all through the month.

Lo and behold, fell pregnant immediately.

I feel terrified and unprepared and thought I would have more time but I suppose 1 month or 6 I would be feeling the same way.

Was aiming for winter baby, ended up a mid-summer baby.

No-one needs support for conceiving fast, so if you look online I guess it'll be skewed for those who haven't been so lucky.

PiggieWig · 22/11/2023 15:26

I was gobsmacked the first time I got pregnant. It was completely unplanned and while I knew, obviously, that having unprotected sex could lead to a pregnancy, I thought statistically it was highly unlikely as a ‘one off’.
I remember thinking ‘what’s all this TTC business then?!’

hibiscuswool · 22/11/2023 15:27

Also happened to me. First baby took almost a year. Ovulation tests, charting temperature, obsessing over what I could do to "improve". Second baby I said let's start trying a bit earlier than planned because it took so long the first time. I had my IUD out and a few days later joked to just give it a go. We did it that one time. Once. I'm 39 weeks now...
