Hello,

Would anyone like to join a thread for TTC after ectopic/miscarriage, or when facing other challenges eg age, PCOS etc? DP and I have just decided to try again for no2, and I'm going to come off the pill. It would be nice to have some buddies to share experiences and support each other 🙂

About me:

Pregnancy 1: conceived first cycle age 35, healthy pregnancy, DS born summer 2021 (now age 2)

Pregnancy 2: conceived first cycle age 37, ectopic, surgery November 2022

My plan is to eat well, exercise, cut out alcohol, and generally look after myself.

Because I got pregnant quickly both times, I'm hoping our chances are still good...no idea how only having the one fallopian tube is going to affect things 😬

I think I'll do OPKs but not sure about temping yet.

Would love to hear from others!

Best of luck for this month @Joonbug23 🤞

LH dropped off a cliff today so I assume I did ovulate yesterday 🤨 not hopeful tbh, I can’t imagine CD9 is enough for an egg to mature

TTC after ectopic/after loss/older age etc ALL WELCOME 🙂

Hooray, positive progesterone test (home urine test) this morning! Now I feel more at ease.

@MrsB2019x can your ovaries actually pop out an immature egg? I wonder

I have no idea but to me it just feels too early 😕 time will tell I guess.

Great news about the progesterone test 🎉

CatCaretaker · 23/11/2023 09:09

@Loz1006 how are you getting on? It's today you're going back for a HCG check?

Vic231 · 23/11/2023 09:59

@MrsB2019x my cycles are short, I go straight from AF to fertile week, TWW and then AF, so pretty sure I ovulate around CD 9/10/11 and been pregnant 3 times. So it's definitely possible! 🤞🏼

Loz1006 · 23/11/2023 10:53

@CatCaretaker thanks for checking in!

Bloods this morning and had the result super quick so my HGC has gone from 94 to 260 which the nurse says is promising! Last time my HCG only reached 130 before dropping.

I do also think the numbers are fairly low if my last period date was 17th Oct. But if I've ovulated really late I guess I could be as early as 4w4d going off our 'activity' around then..

Not quite out of the woods as I can't shake the pain, so could still be ectopic. I'm getting more bloods on Saturday morning and if increased again then it will be a scan.. I would assume I'd have to wait for that though as does HCG not have to be close to 2000 to see anything?

CatCaretaker · 23/11/2023 10:58

@Loz1006 oh that's really great that HCG is increasing. I know that you are probably wary of getting hopes up, especially with the pain, but I really hope it's good news!

I have no idea of what HCG needs to be to scan, I've never achieved a BFP 😔. Maybe someone else can advise?

YellowZ · 23/11/2023 11:44

@Loz1006 this is amazing news! Hope the pain improves soon. Rooting for you! ☺️

@lucie1987 how are you getting on? Hope you're alright x

I don't know what is going on with my cycles at the mo...

Tuesday morning I had very strong ovulation pains on my left side for the first time in 2.5 years after having a large cyst (and ectopic) removed in July. I was only cd10 (I usually always ovulate cd 15) so got opks out to confirm it was ovulation as I usually get my peak and ovulation pain at about the same time. Opk stark white, in the afternoon I started getting a second line - but it's now been two days and hasn't progressed to a peak. So I'm starting to think it wasn't ovulation but the pain was something else. However, I also had night sweats overnight which I usually get just before my period and my bbt has increased. I do also have a cold though, and bbt is incredibly unreliable if you're fighting an infection.
We haven't bd before the ovulation pain only the evening after - so if that was ovulation this cycle is probably wasted.

I don't know if my cycle is messed up because of a very early chemical last month (literally got a positive and started bleeding an hour later on cd 9 - usually AF comes cd11-12), or maybe because my left ovary has started functioning again, or maybe I'm perimenopausal at 38 (I found out recently from my mum she started around my age, when I thought I had plenty of time!)

TTC after ectopic/after loss/older age etc ALL WELCOME 🙂
Confusedddddddd · 23/11/2023 13:52

I meant 9dpo and af comes 11-12 dpo not cd

MoonstoneGoddess · 23/11/2023 15:10

Hi all. I'm just wondering for those of you whove had ectopic did your hcg keep rising or did it stall ?
I've been going up on the clearblue 2-3 3+ every week but something feels off to me. I've no symtoms at 6+ weeks and I had some right sided pain for about 3 days quite strong intermittent all day but haven't had it in few days so gp won't refer since I've also no bleeding

YellowZ · 23/11/2023 16:33

Hello @MoonstoneGoddess how many weeks are you? Could you go for a private scan to set your mind at ease?

I had persistent pain just on one side with my first pregnancy, but everything was fine. In early pregnancy, the ovary that you ovulate from produces progesterone to support the embryo. Sometimes this causes some pain on the side you ovulated from.

My second pregnancy was ectopic. My HCG went something like this

550
500
510
540

So, small increases and decreases. The sonographer said this was absolutely classic for an ectopic. Having said this, I know others have experienced good line progression etc, so it's not an absolute guarantee.

I think you have to keep in mind that an ectopic is rare, and it's probably even more rare to have what appears to be normal HCG etc and also have an ectopic pregnancy. Out of interest, when did you get your bfp?

Not everyone gets sickness either 🙂

@Confusedddddddd urgh how frustrating. Could you have had your peak before you had the ovulation pains this time? That would explain the bbt rise too?

OP posts:
MoonstoneGoddess · 23/11/2023 17:01

@YellowZ I'm 6 weeks now.
I had ivf which they said could increase the chances of ectopic. I'm convinced it's am ectopic or blighted ovum .
Gp won't do bloods 48hrs apart.
I basically just have zero symptoms. Had severe cramping ( which was first thing I worried about) then I had some right sided pain . My tests were stalling alot to begin with , lines not increasing every few days so I guess thats made me worry.

YellowZ · 23/11/2023 17:20

@MoonstoneGoddess oh I see. Sorry, that must be really stressful. Well, ignore the part where I was going on about progesterone etc then hah.

I don't know much about IVF. Will you be automatically offered a scan at some point? A scan is really the only way you are going to know for sure.

OP posts:
Confusedddddddd · 23/11/2023 20:45

@MoonstoneGoddess if you've had pain the gp should refer. With my ectopic I only found out at 6 weeks as I had a period, I only used opks the next cycle as previous period was a week early, they kept being positive so took a pregnancy test. I called gp who said to call midwives, midwives didn't know whether to register me as technically my last period was 3 weeks ago, and told me to go back to go saying I have a lot of pain, although I had 0 pain. I lied and got immediately referred to EPU for a scan and to my surprise it was ectopic. My hcg was 2000 and gradually dropped over the next 2.5 weeks on its own down to 400 on the day it ruptured - that was the first time I had any pain and even then it just felt like bad period pain.

@YellowZ I might have but I doubt it, my peaks usually last a couple of days and over the the total of 15 months I have tracked cycles the pain has always been at the same time or just before the peak. I think I'll keep acting as though I'll ovulate on cd 15 (keep dtd, keep testing), if I did ovulate earlier there's not much I can do about it now, and if so at least the next cycle will be here soon.

MrsB2019x · 23/11/2023 22:01

@Vic231 That does give me a little bit of hope, thank you! 🥰

Great news about your HCG @Loz1006 😍

@MoonstoneGoddess My HCG over the course of a week was 163, 496, 501. So it was doubling initially but then stalled. If you had pain but it’s now settling I’d be inclined to say maybe not ectopic, the pain I had with mine was constant and pretty hard to deal with. I had one sided pains on and off with DD but I assumed maybe that was scar tissue from the ectopic 🤷🏻‍♀️

Nic2908 · 23/11/2023 22:19

I’ve just done a mass catch up. @Loz1006 im sending all my positive thoughts your way. Keep us in the loop!!

I think that when you have been through something as traumatic as a miscarriage it’s really natural to presume the worst until you get past the point that you were at and know everything is ok. Sending you big hugs and I have everything crossed for you xxx

SnookyPook · 23/11/2023 23:23

@Loz1006 that sounds really hopeful! On the HCG/scan - with my recent experience they said no point scanning as my HCG was below 1000 and they seemed to think that was the threshold for seeing anything meaningful.

Annonomous29 · 24/11/2023 16:09

Hello! @Annonomous29 looking good. I think worth testing again to see if it goes even darker 🙂 but yeh I'd definitely be dtd tonight with that OPK.

All good here! Glad it's I'm a little closer to the time I can start testing haha. It's been a loooong week.

MrsB2019x · 24/11/2023 17:54

@Annonomous29 Download the Premom app, they have a reader that tells you whether or not they’re positive ☺️ I found it so helpful because sometimes they are really hard to interpret!
