Hello,

Would anyone like to join a thread for TTC after ectopic/miscarriage, or when facing other challenges eg age, PCOS etc? DP and I have just decided to try again for no2, and I'm going to come off the pill. It would be nice to have some buddies to share experiences and support each other 🙂

About me:

Pregnancy 1: conceived first cycle age 35, healthy pregnancy, DS born summer 2021 (now age 2)

Pregnancy 2: conceived first cycle age 37, ectopic, surgery November 2022

My plan is to eat well, exercise, cut out alcohol, and generally look after myself.

Because I got pregnant quickly both times, I'm hoping our chances are still good...no idea how only having the one fallopian tube is going to affect things 😬

I think I'll do OPKs but not sure about temping yet.

Would love to hear from others!

Happy New Year everyone, may 2024 be full of the biggest, fattest BFP’s 🤞

YellowZ · 01/01/2024 08:13

Thanks @MrsB2019x hope everyone has a great 2024!

Congrats @MrsB2019x & @YellowZ such amazing news!

@GoldenArrow we've been TTC for a while now, but due to ovulate around same time as you, on the 7th, so can keep each other company!

CatCaretaker · 01/01/2024 08:36

Anyone who has been successful in getting any bfp, what - if anything - do you think you did that month that made the difference?

I'm on B vitamins, iron, folic acid and metformin as per doctor's recommendations, and I'm also taking CoQ10 and Proceive Omega3. I have him on CoQ10 too, and he takes a multivitamin with zinc (doctor's recommendations again).

This month I've got Pre-Seed, and will use moon cup (never tried either of those before).

There is some technique to timing dtd isn't there? I can't remember what it's called ...

MrsB2019x · 01/01/2024 09:00

@CatCaretaker When we conceived DD, DH had started taking Wellman the month before. Not sure if that’s what made the difference but we caught really quickly this time and he had been back on it for a month or so

CatCaretaker · 01/01/2024 09:04

Thank you @MrsB2019x, can't hurt!

YellowZ · 01/01/2024 09:28

I started taking NAC (N-acetyl cysteine) which is an antioxidant. Apparently helps to protect cells from damage (including your eggs). As well as coq 10 and prenatal vitamins. I also ate lots of nuts, veg, reduced sugar.

Is sperm meets egg plan the method you were thinking of?

It took us 2 months as well so hard to say if the supplements made a difference.

SMEP! That's it, thank you @YellowZ. Will up the healthy eating game again, and stay off the alcohol from here out. I read somewhere once that those who don't drink in the week leading up to ovulation have a better chance... I'll try everything.

YellowZ · 01/01/2024 09:46

Oh, yeh. I also did short runs 3x a week, didn't drink alcohol except for cd1 and cd2, and I cut down caffeine to 1 cup of coffee a day. Definitely OTT, but I thought at least if I don't get pregnant I've still been treating my body really well, and that has benefits in itself.

Happy new year everyone!

So after my faint lines I took a couple of other tests which were stark white negative.
Before popping round some friends I thought I'd just check I'm definitely not pregnant before I go drinking, 9dpo stark white negative, I have a 10 day LP so figured if it's negative now I'm probably out. Drank a decent amount but not enough to give me a hangover, couldn't sleep last night and feel like absolute crap this morning, probably from lack of sleep as didn't drink excessively, at least I didn't feel drunk. Anyways feeling a bit concerned I dig out the test- there's a very faint but obvious line in the daylight.
I'm also out of sensitive tests - all I have are digitals, and everything is shut today. FML.
AF should arrive later today or tomorrow and as I'm typing this I am feeling a bit crampy so it probably is just an evap (though test was still wet when I dug it out).

CatCaretaker · 01/01/2024 10:58

Yeah, I should start running again, even just short ones! Really glad for you that it worked out!

Gracie1825 · 01/01/2024 11:41

My eggs are well old so definite need all the help..I've started taking proceive max, extra coq10 and extra folate omega and have reduced caffeine in the hopes that will help.
I was thinking about so trying the NAC @YellowZ heard it tastes odd? Not that it matters the proceive max is pretty vile but sure we'll do what it takes

YellowZ · 01/01/2024 12:10

I got this one @Gracie1825 https://www.cytoplan.co.uk/nac-n-acetyl-cysteine?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA4smsBhAEEiwAO6DEjbIod7b2eP5tkzP6i3yQb1_x08aT_GAEC4vP4UOBeYoVNzzxUChEfhoChlMQAvD_BwE

It doesn't taste odd. Does have a strange smell though. I also used their omega fish oil and prenatal vitamins.

@CatCaretaker hope this is your month coming up!

Tbh I haven't got excited yet. It's great to be pregnant, but I'm only 4+3 and it feels like there is a loooong way to go. Think it'll feel more real once I've had a scan and know that they're in the right place and have a heartbeat.

@Confusedddddddd well I'm sure it wouldn't be the first time someone has tested negative, had a few drinks, and then gone on to be pregnant! How frustrating to have to wait to test again though.

Bumblesbee84 · 01/01/2024 12:48

@CatCaretaker I've tried to bear the sperm meets egg plan in mind every time we've TTC. Basically very regular sex just before, during and after ovulation and seems to have worked quite well for me so far.

@Gracie1825 @YellowZ I'm 39, wondering if I should change my vitamins regime. I'm just taking standard pregnancy vitamins. So hard to know. Tbh I've eaten so badly and drunk loads over the festive period, feel like I would have given my eggs a good battering. Start again this month though!

We've decided to get some tests some privately as we've had 3 losses. Was chatting to a friend who's had ivf and she was quite blunt (which in hindsight i appreciate!) and basically agree said nhs will involve lots of waiting and disjointedness and I don't have time for that. Me and DH have said we wouldn't do ivf but would be good to know if there is anything we can do to reduce miscarriage risk again.

@Confusedddddddd if AF is due, is it worth POAS with a digital?? Or do you wait for Internet cheap positive first? That's what I try to do, but I've been known to crack open a digital when I've run out... no self control with testing!

CatCaretaker · 01/01/2024 12:59

Thanks all, going to try to think positively (that'll help, right? 😂).

@Bumblesbee84 yes, will keep SMEP in mind from here on. May I ask why you guys have decided against IVF? I don't know much about it but again, open to all viewpoints. They have introduced a round of free IVF here in Ireland for the first time, so it might be a possibility for us (where it wouldn't have been in the past).

@YellowZ I can understand your trepidation, but I've got everything crossed for you. When do you think you'll have your first scan? Soon enough right, due to past ectopic?

YellowZ · 01/01/2024 13:09

@CatCaretaker ah thanks. I'm going to call the epau tomorrow to find out how I arrange a scan. Thought I'd wait until after the weekend, AF will be 5 days late. Hopefully I'll be able to have one in a couple of weeks from now 🤞🏼

OP posts:
YellowZ · 01/01/2024 13:17

@Bumblesbee84 I think the tests are a good idea. Best to get the clearest picture possible.

In case it helps, I was taking
200mg ubiquinol (100 in the morning, 100 in the evening)
500mg NAC
High strength omega 3 fish oil
Cytoplan prenatals which have methylfolate as opposed to folic acid... (But I've switched to folic acid now in pregnacare)

Which was inspired by 'it starts with the egg' - there were some other recommendations like taking really high doses of b vitamins and vit d, which I didn't do, but might be worth reading up on.

OP posts:
Bumblesbee84 · 01/01/2024 13:26

@CatCaretaker we've decided against ivf as we'd have to self fund which would be tricky and the stats for success at 40 are only around 10%, so if we did fund a cycle there'd be 90% chance it wouldn't work. I don't think I can put us through that. I've done lots of soul searching and ultimately I know we'll be ok if it's just our beautiful DS and us. But I do feel we're still in with a shot trying naturally so happy to keep going for now.

@YellowZ thanks for that info, think I'm going to look into a bit more and do some online purchasing!

CatCaretaker · 01/01/2024 13:31

@Bumblesbee84 thank you, that makes sense. We have no DC yet, and with the free option, we may go for it. I'm 38 now (had just turned 37 when we started ttc), so no time to waste though.

Gracie1825 · 01/01/2024 13:52

@Bumblesbee84 I've spent the last few weeks googling and read a bit of it start with the egg. I'm just guessing but as I had a missed miscarriage and still had major symptoms I think I was ok carrying so I'm thinking it was more likely an egg problem. So have been super focused on improving egg quality.

Like @YellowZ I got from it that CoQ10 especially the ubiquinol version omega 3 and methylfolate as opposed to folic acid seem to quiet important.

YellowZ · 02/01/2024 09:55

Scan booked for the 12th Jan toot toot! I'll be 6wks exactly. Hopefully they'll see something (and in the right place).

@Confusedddddddd will you be able to get hold of an early test today?

OP posts:
MrsB2019x · 02/01/2024 13:45

Exciting @YellowZ ! Mine is on 16th when I will be 6+6, they offered 8th but it would’ve been tricky to get childcare that day so opted to wait. Waiting will be a killer though!

Any sign of AF @Confusedddddddd ?

SnookyPook · 02/01/2024 13:51

@YellowZ ah fantastic! Bet you can't wait! Great yours is booked too @MrsB2019x ! X

Nic2908 · 02/01/2024 15:10

How exciting!! Fingers crossed for you both

YellowZ · 02/01/2024 15:24

Thanks everyone! @MrsB2019x I'd probably have waited a few days longer for more chance of seeing a heartbeat... But yeah childcare 🤷🏼
