Home insemination

Wondering if anyone has experience with this?
DH and I are TTC our second but he has been struggling with work and family stress - high pressure role and family illness. We both want this badly but DH is feeling some performance pressure and not ejaculating / losing erection during sex. It’s frustrating for us both when I’m ovulating and really get us both down.
I just wondered if anyone had successfully tried home insemination? I think it’s a good idea so we can be a bit more spontaneous with sex and take any pressure off but reassured that we have more chance of conceiving by adding this into the routine.
I have bought some bits off amazon (flat head syringes, “specimen” cups 😂and a cheapy conception cup type thing)
any hand holding / reassurance / experiences greatly appreciated.
It feels strange and clinical to be considering it but I am a bit hormone baby crazy and willing to give anything a go, but feel a bit embarrassed talking to anyone IRL about it because of taboo around ED.

@LilPearl any update on todays test? 🤞

LilPearl · 19/02/2024 10:42

@JS5 I'm using boots and still really unclear! I really am at a loss about whether it's all in my head!!

Have you tested yet? 🤞

Home insemination
JS5 · 19/02/2024 11:43

I can see something vvvvf, photos usually aren't as clear though. I can imagine the uncertainty must be killing you, I'd say wait a few days but I know I couldn't! Really hoping this gets darker by tomorrow xx

9dpo stark white BNF this morning. Really struggling this cycle.😞 I dont know how people just switch off. I'm thinking to maybe book some time away next cycle so I can be distracted in the tww from 8DPO onwards

CurlyWurly1991 · 19/02/2024 12:54

@LilPearl i see a very faint line too. Looks like you may need to wait a couple of days and test again. I’m having similar lines on internet cheapies. Usually I can wait until 13-14dpo but caved early this cycle and I regret it because now I just don’t know!

LilPearl · 19/02/2024 16:33

@JS5 and @CurlyWurly1991 thanks for the support ladies. I really really hope so. My gums bled this morning which was very unusual and I've needed a wee constantly all day. Might be all placebo symptoms?! I'm excited and so nervous to test in the morning.

Totally understand you both, it is so hard to wait and I think convincing yourself you 'should' can actually be more harmful. It just shows how much we want it ❤️

itsLKtoday · 20/02/2024 14:02

11dpo here too

Tww is brutal isn't it?
Keeping everything cross for everyone else!

For the last year or so my pms symptoms have been horrendous and such a tease - nausea, aching breasts, fatigue etc and I'm sure I'm not just imagining them.
I tend to get a bit of brown sticky spotting around 11dpo which is particularly hard to bear as I also had this in previous pregnancies. At those times it was the only time I had it , now it's usual.

I don't test early anymore as I was just tormenting myself for days waiting for AF. Would rather be glass half full for the few days .

Had brown gummy spotting today after yellow sticky cm yesterday and trying not to think of it one way or the other.

Just don't know what to try next if this months new thing was home insemination 🤷

CurlyWurly1991 · 20/02/2024 15:13

@itsLKtoday could have written your post. Really similar here down to the sticky spotting which has been a good sign before but now I can’t tell the difference between conception and ovulatory cycles. They are literally the same and I will never test early again following this cycle’s tease at 11dpo!
All we can do is keep trying. It will happen !

itsLKtoday · 20/02/2024 16:25

@CurlyWurly1991 I'm sorry that you're going through this too and also relieved that my body isn't doing anything too weird 😬

I've checked back to last month and exact same symptoms at 11dpo last month.
I've even popped my menstrual disk in so that I have to stop nipping to the loo every twenty minutes to check what's down ther

LilPearl · 21/02/2024 16:52

Hi ladies, how are you all getting on? Really hoping you got bfps!!!
My very faint lines continue to be very faint and Ive been bleeding pink for 2 days so 99% of me knows it was a chemical.
1% of me clinging on for a miracle 🌸

CurlyWurly1991 · 21/02/2024 16:56

Ok so this may be a mad question but - for anyone doing this method - is there any way you can just ‘let go’ and stop thinking about TTC while doing it this way? Because in the traditional way you don’t really need to time things so carefully if you’re able to just have fun etc. I can’t imagine the equivalent with home insemination like having to do it all the time and it is NOT fun at all but my gosh! I hate living my life in portions of weeks at a time and peeing on sticks. Any tips from others who have been at this a little while??

CurlyWurly1991 · 21/02/2024 17:00

@LilPearl so sorry to hear that, just seen your post. I had faint lines to this cycle then my period, also suspect a chemical. It’s crap isn’t it 😔

JS5 · 21/02/2024 18:13

@LilPearl @CurlyWurly1991 sorry for your losses, I couldn't imagine what that pain is like 💐

11dpo stil BFN 😞

Curlywurly today I've been reading how alot of women stopped trying and just relaxed the cycle they bfp- went holiday, glass of wine and casual fun sex. Personally for us, although home insemination removes the pressure (husband has ED), it's no fun whatsoever. Dr advised to dtd every other day from end of period to beginning of period. With having somewhat long cycles that's 15 inseminations over a 35day cycle 😣 and then trying to shove up a fertilily cup after each insemination which isn't them osf comfortable thing in the world... Its just not doable.

moosey89 · 21/02/2024 18:44

@CurlyWurly1991 afraid I've not found a way yet, and that's even with relatively regular cycles too. I just mentally prepared every month and imagine it's like taking my vitamins, just a task that needs doing! Sorry I don't have any real help or advice x

AWIAANGAF · 21/02/2024 19:13

@CurlyWurly1991 I commented on this thread before because I had 2 successful pregnancies with calpol syringes.
I didn’t track anything apart from waiting for the mid-cycle clear stretchy discharge then used the syringe every evening for the entire time I had it. No ovulation testing or temperature taking. So it didn’t take over my life as such. I just hoped for the best, but expected the worst. The one thing I did do was have my daily bath before I used the syringe so that 1. I was relaxed and 2. I didn’t wash any of the sample away the next morning.
I then would rest my legs up the wall with my bum elevated and plan out my life child-free because I genuinely did not think it would work. I lived my life normally outside of it and did nice treat things and went to nice places that I wouldn’t be able to go to if it had worked.
I wish all of you all the luck in the world with it.

CurlyWurly1991 · 21/02/2024 19:32

@AWIAANGAF @moosey89 thank you for your kind messages.
@AWIAANGAF I am really tempted to do the same as you suggest and stop tracking etc. I hate the OPKs and temping affects my sleep… I get EWCM pretty reliably though sometimes it goes and comes back later… maybe I could trial a cycle with only doing that and see how I get on.

itsLKtoday · 21/02/2024 20:19

I'm afraid I've not found a way to put it out of my mind and I'm also struggling to plan ahead and enjoy life as living in chunks of testing, trying, hoping, depression.
I've even declined a new job because I can't think of anything other than ttc and I knew I would fail at the job.

I'll start my period tomorrow (red spotting now) and I'm starting an anti depressant too which my GP recommended a few months ago and I've finally admitted I need.

I'm also speaking to Obstetrics tomorrow (referred for a weird complicated reason that isn't fertility - long story) and I'm having to do it on the phone as there was no way I could cope with going into the maternity area of the hospital.
I'm hoping to plead to the consultants better nature for help to conceive...had a chemical in Nov and 2x miscarriages around 12 weeks several years ago.

LilPearl · 22/02/2024 11:38

Thank you all for your kind words.
Sounds like we're onto a new cycle ladies and I'm hoping just as much for you all as for me. ❤️

CurlyWurly1991 · 02/03/2024 16:31

How’s everyone getting on?
I decided to hold off temping and tracking following wise words on this thread and this cycle has felt less stressful. Approaching fertile week soon though and I’m going to struggle not to try and take advantage of it ! If we do try then I will try and take a chilled approach…

GoingToInfinity · 03/03/2024 00:43

My beautiful home insemination baby arrived the early hours of yesterday morning. We are all so in love with her already.
For those of you still on your TTC journey, I wish you the best of luck and the reassurance that it is possible and totally worth it ❤️

AWIAANGAF · 03/03/2024 07:22

@CurlyWurly1991 Good luck this month, I hope the chilled approach works for you.
@GoingToInfinity huge congratulations to you! 🎉

CurlyWurly1991 · 03/03/2024 09:30

Awww @GoingToInfinity congratulations !!! 🥰

JS5 · 04/03/2024 08:07

@CurlyWurly1991 glad you're feeling more relaxed this cycle. I was hoping the same but I've taken a soy isoflavones this cycle in the hope to bring ovulation day forward as have long cycles, so will have to use opks throughout to catch it, but have decided not to temp until start getting rise in LH

Wishing everyone luck this cycle 🤞

LilPearl · 04/03/2024 17:21

@GoingToInfinity congratulations 🥹 this is a beautiful reminder of our goal.

@CurlyWurly1991 glad you're feeling more relaxed, it sounds refreshing to have a break.

I'm feeling really low myself. The chemical last month has really planted doubt into my mind and Im beating myself up trying to not be doubtful. We'll be trying again this weekend. This process is so hard 😔

itsLKtoday · 07/03/2024 09:16

Cd14 here and not much sign of a peak in lh 🤷

I'll be miffed if it's much after this and super unhappy it's after my usual cd17!

FSGirl · 07/03/2024 19:47

I’ve been AWOL on here mainly because my cycle this month has been a bit all over the place. I am waiting for AF now hoping next month it’ll happen.
How many times are most of you doing home insemination per cycle?
