Home insemination

Wondering if anyone has experience with this?
DH and I are TTC our second but he has been struggling with work and family stress - high pressure role and family illness. We both want this badly but DH is feeling some performance pressure and not ejaculating / losing erection during sex. It’s frustrating for us both when I’m ovulating and really get us both down.
I just wondered if anyone had successfully tried home insemination? I think it’s a good idea so we can be a bit more spontaneous with sex and take any pressure off but reassured that we have more chance of conceiving by adding this into the routine.
I have bought some bits off amazon (flat head syringes, “specimen” cups 😂and a cheapy conception cup type thing)
any hand holding / reassurance / experiences greatly appreciated.
It feels strange and clinical to be considering it but I am a bit hormone baby crazy and willing to give anything a go, but feel a bit embarrassed talking to anyone IRL about it because of taboo around ED.

@Cherry85 😂 I’ve honestly not noticed the tip bit but maybe it’s time to invest in some flat headed ones (I think I panic bought those!!)…as soon as AF comes I’ll get on it!

Chiming in here. My husband and I are using home insemination due to difficulty ejaculating on his end. We use a sterile 5 ml syringe (I just bought a big box off Amazon) and I lay down for 20 to 30 min after. This is our second cycle with HI, so fingers crossed.

Honestly, we both enjoy it. It takes the pressure off of sex and allows us to relax more and enjoy ourselves during sex.

Another who is proof it works. And this was after having to do IVF for my first.

I don't think doctors are keen on it due to infection risk I suppose but sorry she was like that.

This method worked a treat for us, sex was just becoming unenjoyable due to the pressure.

So I had a GP appointment yesterday as had mid cycle bleeding last cycle. I mentioned we were trying HI due to issues on both sides and she was all for it - she said they won't get involved for a year anyway. She said they don't obviously advise on it but that she knows same sex couples who have had success - she did say the important thing is to keep the sperms at body temperature....so don't leave it on a cold bathroom counter before inserting. Keep the tub in your hands and keep it warm until inserting.

Hows everyone getting on?

Currently 7DP in my 9th cycle doing home insemination. Cant help but wonder how is it not working for me but seems to have worked for so many in the thread😩

I've stopped using fertility cup as been thinking this may be doing more damage than good, as when I pull it out I have to literally yank it out and tugs on my inside, and I always feel like if there were any swimmers making their way up, they've been plunged out from the suction.

Would love to hear more success stories and what was different that cycle 💕

Have you done any fertility testing? I’m struggling to conceive but partner did a sperm analysis and results weren’t great so I think I have my explanation there.

Sorry to hear. How soon was your next appointment after semen analysis?

Partner and I had fertility tests 2months ago (bloods, internal swabs and scan for me and semen analysis for partner) ....No idea of results yet as the next appt with gynae is in Jan25 (earliest available).

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 10/09/2024 10:31

@JS5 That’s a long wait. Can they not send you the lab results before then? We did the test privately so got the result back quickly.

JS5 · 10/09/2024 16:37

@InWithPeaceOutWithStress I asked they said would have to contact another department gave me details I've sent emails and tried contacting secretary of that department but no luck :(

I'm considering going private

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 12/09/2024 17:18

Gosh @JS5 i don’t know what to say. That sounds like shockingly poor service. Making you wait till January for those test results is awful.

Really glad I have found this thread. Going to read through it all, as this is something my husband and I may consider.

Any tips/advice welcome!

Amazing news congratulations @Cherry85 💐💐

I remember you joined this chat last year, may I ask how many cycles it took to get BFP via HI?

Cherry85 · 16/02/2025 09:59

@JS5 Well.... we stopped trying as I went on mourjano for 4 months and only started again this month and pregnant first time.....BUT there were a few changes this month.

  1. Obviously I've lost a lot of weight so that may have helped.
  1. I only used to test the week before I expected to ovulate.... but tested earlier this cycle ans had a higher result than I have ever had before a week before I expected to ovulate - so now wondering if I always ovulate early! So tip one would be test every day of your cycle just incase!! We dtd a full week earlier than usual and BAM!
  1. Hubby made a comment about 'oh maybe that's cos I made sure I kept it proper warm in both hands coming up the stairs'.... so make sure your men aren't setting the tub on the sink or counter, sorting themselves out and then bringing it to you....keep those swimmers toasty!!

It may just be total random luck.... but it worked this month anyway! Good luck xx

I'm going to be 40 when in may too!!

Amazing! So happy for you. Such lovely news.

Can I be nosy and ask about Mounjaro, did you have to stop trying for a certain length of time after you stopped taking it?

@BecksStory yes and no. I stopped the week i knew I was ovulating then started trying for ovulating the next month.

My friend is a GP and felt most of the things about the 2 month gap is down to lack of research than actual concerns as no one pregnant is going to actively volunteer to test it so that's the standard time period to wait. She felt it was similar to someone drinking or taking recreational drugs in early pregnancy before knowing and that as soon as you stopped as soon as you knew it would be ok.

There are also lots of people who now report getting pregnant on it as their fertility seems improved and more and more healthy babies being born from people who were on it so I sort of felt that was promising.

But take advice from your own GP cos things change all the time and it's all still so new!
