If you conceived at 35+

if you conceived at 35+ how long did it take you? Especially if you had other children how long did it take you v when you were under 35?

ive got 2 and would love a 3rd (hence the username) but life as it is, and col can’t really justify trying until next year and then I’ll be 35. I was reading now research shows that the sharp decline in women’s fertility is thought to be more around 37 and on, my friend was telling me whatever association they have in the states has updated their guidelines to reflect this, but still wondered if it would take longer.

my first was about 7/8 months but in a high stress environment, my second first try. I had my amh taken when I was 29 and it was pretty high (if that matters)

We started trying for our first baby when I was 37 and I had my DD when I was 40. I did have 2 miscarriages though in between.

SwimSwim · 15/08/2023 22:56

DC1 conceived at 34 on 1st attempt and DC2 conceived at 37 on the first attempt. I was very lucky!!

wheredotheygo · 15/08/2023 22:59

I conceived at 37. Started trying in Dec 2019, turned 37 in April 2020 and fell pregnant a couple of months later in early June. We missed my fertile window on a couple of occasions as my DH was working away, so I reckon maybe about 4 months in total of actively trying during my most fertile days. I was not using any hormonal contraception previously. I know sadly it's not straightforward for everyone but I also have lots of friends who have conceived after 35 with ease.

Videogame0 · 15/08/2023 22:59

First attempt (age 35). We were lucky!

Springingintosummer · 15/08/2023 23:00

22 months and 4 months for two children after age 35, in that order,

WesterChick · 15/08/2023 23:01

My third was a happy accident.

Shagged husband once that month.

I was 38.

TheShellBeach · 15/08/2023 23:03

Third and fourth children, 36 and 38.

Both took one month of trying.

TellMeDinosaurFacts · 15/08/2023 23:04

DC1 took a couple of years starting at 31 (2 miscarriages, took 3-4 months to conceive each time). DC2 took less than a month (happened immediately when we decided to try!) at nearly 38. Was much easier 2nd time around!
I think that, particularly if you've had a successful child pre35, then the fear of fertility 'falling off a cliff' can be overstated. Most of my friends have had children while being 37+.

Firecat84 · 15/08/2023 23:05

First attempt (tracking ovulation though) both times, aged 35 and 37. Good luck!

TrumpetOfTheMatriarchy · 15/08/2023 23:08

First baby at 34, first go of trying (one blooming weekend as we lived apart at the time)
Second baby at 36, about three months
Third baby at 38, about six months (far fewer opportunities to do the deed I blame).

Vintagecreamandcottagepie · 15/08/2023 23:08

One at 35, one at 37 and one at 39.

All within two months of trying.

Murrain · 15/08/2023 23:10

39 and conceived first month, to our astonishment.

annlee3817 · 15/08/2023 23:11

One conceived at 33, happy accident, second conceived at 40 first month trying, we were very lucky

iminvestednow · 15/08/2023 23:11

It will go this way or you’ll find it utterly impossible after 5 cycles of IVF and 10k

SallyWD · 15/08/2023 23:12

Started trying for my first on my 35th birthday. Conceived first time!
Started trying for my 2nd at 37. It took maybe 7 months with a couple of very early miscarriages.

TaraRhu · 15/08/2023 23:12

35 first attempt. 38 it took 3 months. I was very lucky.

iminvestednow · 15/08/2023 23:13

Please don’t tell everyone it’s easy to get pregnant at 39 just because you did. It’s not easy at that age.

Belshels · 15/08/2023 23:14

Had my 2 children age 36 and 38, very lucky as conceived first time. Went on to have early menopause at around 43 though.

shams05 · 15/08/2023 23:15

We had3 already and I conceived my 4th at 35 then 5th at 37 both at first try. With my first I had a couple of miscarriages after a year of trying then first successful pregnant after 2 years, I was 23. All my others were at first month of trying.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 15/08/2023 23:16

Mine were both conceived at first attempt. I was 35 and 37.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 15/08/2023 23:17

Had DS1 at 39 after trying for 2 months. Had DS2 at 41 after 1 month.

Givemepickles · 15/08/2023 23:19

First month trying at age 36. DTD twice that month.

Fertility is a gradual decline up to around age 40, and is individual. The 35 cliff edge thing really isn't backed up by data so try not to worry about it.

iminvestednow · 15/08/2023 23:19

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 15/08/2023 23:17

Had DS1 at 39 after trying for 2 months. Had DS2 at 41 after 1 month.

You do understand that is not what the average woman would be able to achieve right?

greenmarsupial · 15/08/2023 23:20

WesterChick · 15/08/2023 23:01

My third was a happy accident.

Shagged husband once that month.

I was 38.

Ha ha, same!

monsteramunch · 15/08/2023 23:20

Pregnant now at 36, with 14 months TTC and a long wait before that getting to a place where I felt it was fair to start trying even though I'd have liked to do so years and years previously!Feel so lucky to get to experience it. Sending love to anyone else having a difficult TTC journey Flowers
