Just a lighthearted thread for those of us now considered to be geriatric by the NHS 😂 looking to meet other women TTC who may also be feeling past their prime!

A little bit about me - I'm 36 and TTC dc no.2. Been trying for over 2 years now and depressingly started AF today so am yet again starting CD1. Hubby doesn't quite understand how upsetting this is each month so it'd be great to chat with ladies who get how I'm feeling ❤️

@Infinitebows think I'm at exactly the same stage in cycle as you, going to start ovulation testing on Saturday and start the whole process again. I completely get what you mean about sex being so much more enjoyable when there's no pressure and it's just spontaneous but TTC seems to take all the joy out of it 😩 will you be doing anything different this cycle? Think we're going to try SMEP one more time and see what happens

@Maizie83 💞 hopefully another few more BFP's this next time.

@Stillwinston well.... funny you should ask!! I'm on a roll at the minute (anyone not familiar with my story, DH has a very low libido, I'm the opposite!) we've been at it every 2-3 days!!!!! 🎉 Whatttt??? I hear you all cry 🤣 We've decided this is our last try and he's really upped his game. So, SMEP kind of for us too. Think we'll go for it every other day minimum (🤞🏼) from Saturday. Obviously I must be ovulating early because effing AF keeps showing up super early! I'm going to start OPK tomorrow xx

SarahShorty · 11/05/2023 13:01

@Infinitebows they always say when you stop trying, it happens.

Infinitebows · 11/05/2023 14:10

@SarahShorty ahh I hope you're right and it comes very soon after we stop ttc ..... else you watch, I'll about be announcing I'm pregnant when I'm about 50! It's odd to think after all this time trying for a baby I'll have to think of ways not to get caught 😭

niknaks37 · 11/05/2023 14:27

@suz2285 how are you getting on? I see you had a MC at 8 weeks, all being well this will be a positive BFP outcome. @MK85 so I couldnt help it, tested again this morning, same very faint line.

Keep feeling the odd dull cramp on and off since yesterday, didnt sleep too well last night but I think it's my nerves. I can cope with the TWW but this part when your actual AF doesnt arrive is killing me, every twinge I feel, it's like oh wait here comes AF. I know my DH is bouncing about the house because of the Hcg test but I am not so optimistic as my AF could still come today or tomorrow. My breasts are a wee bit tender so went from not so much to slightly more so.
Not enjoying this part at all.

MK85 · 11/05/2023 14:50

@niknaks37 it's so hard to resist. I'm currently cd 11 and trying to hold out until cd14 to test. I had my fingers crossed for this cycle as my temps were different than before, they've continued to climb up high until today . normally , they drop down and down after the luteal dip around day 5 or 6 until af arrives. Now im wondering if perhaps that was just the clomid that actually made me ovulate and maybe i wasnt really ovulating these past few months. I had been feeling a little off for few days with headaches and dizziness but I think I was reading too much into it since temp has went down quite a bit so I'm predicting a slope from here onwards going by past charts . I don't have any pregnancy tests in the house ,will have to pick one up later when I'm out but I did attempt checking my lh and it's low. Last time I got a positive pregnancy test , my lh test picked it up . Apparently that's a thing. I know I shouldn't read too much into that since that's not their purpose but it seems everyone else says their lh also shows positive if pregnant. I'm clinging onto that little bit of hope just because of our positive a few months ago.
I'm desperate just to know either way so that if I'm not I can just have a day to binge of absolute junk food and prepare myself for the next cycle

suz2285 · 11/05/2023 17:00

@niknaks37 thanks for asking, still pregnant, worried about my progesterone levels, doctor basically wrote me a note saying they won't do anything unless a senior gynae person prescribed it, they've booked me in a call on Monday to discuss but I can't see them doing anything... so I don't know what will happen

I have been googling and basically not a lot I can do, apart from taking the vit c and b6 that 'may' help....

Hope everyone else is good

niknaks37 · 11/05/2023 18:10

@suz2285 i would say try not to worry but easier said than done when you want something so bad. Hopefully you will get the answers you wish for and to have a smooth pregnancy.

@mk85 you mentioned dizziness, weirdly I had a couple.of

niknaks37 · 11/05/2023 18:17

@MK85 sorry I head post before I got to finish! 🤦🏼‍♀️
I had a couple of dizzy spells last week, just got really light headed but I was sitting down. No idea if this is a symptom or not? So glad I have zero LH tests left because I would be testing, its torture enough not Hcg testing often.
Still cramping and I thought I saw a small brownish stain in my pants but I'm not sure as they are pink panties!
Tomorrow is technically my last day of predicted period so fingers crossed. DH keeps checking in on me, I normally go to the gym with him but listening to my body and chilling out this evening.

suz2285 · 11/05/2023 19:06

Thanks @niknaks37 ! I have dizziness and did have last time too...

When are you testing?

Rusticanella · 11/05/2023 19:08

Can I wade in? Just started trying.

Joined this thread as it just seems so weird to refer to my self as "geriatric"!! I am 35, 36 this summer. I am TTC #2, however, if all goes well could end up with a 14/15 year age gap. Would be DHs first Smile

ttcat37 · 11/05/2023 20:32

Hi all. Still feeling a bit fed up. AF came yesterday. It’s my first period since my HSG and is the most heavy and painful I’ve ever had in my life. I felt nauseous with pain and almost asked to leave work! Never had anything like it. Much more painful than the actual HSG.

I’ve booked in with a private fertility clinic at the end of may, and having an AFC scan the week before. Sick of TTC. So we could potentially start treatment in June but we’re going to Glastonbury and I’m not ruining that by waddling around full of eggs being uncomfortable! So realistically would consider starting July.

Hope everyone’s feeling ok. I’ve got my fingers and toes crossed for everyone with symptoms!!!

Infinitebows · 11/05/2023 21:34

@ttcat37 sorry AF came for you too. So jel of your trip to Glastonbury! Big festival queen here but gave them up a few years ago (since covid I guess) good luck with the fertility clinic appointment later in the month.
Hi @Rusticanella welcome to this group. 14/15 years isn't so bad, mine would be 22/23 years gap. Don't sweat it, life will be what it will be. We have to do what feels right at the time. Good luck ttc #2 xx

Thank you. Wow- 20+ years.

This feels so strange- as when I conceived DD I was actively trying to NOT get pregnant, was nowhere near ready for a baby and was a huge (late!) shock. I do have slightly intrusive thoughts that this will be much harder as a kind of karma for being so blessed with a healthy baby last time whilst drinking, smoking and being on contraception during early pregnancy and conception. It's a strange feeling.

MK85 · 11/05/2023 23:52

@niknaks37 I've a friend who had brown spotting during her last pregnancy and if I remember correctly they told her the brown blood was probably old blood leaving the uterus . Might also be related to the implantation process 🤷‍♀️. I think it takes a few days to fully burrow in to the uterus and that can trigger bleeding which is why it's common for women to experience some form of bleeding around the time time a periods due.

Stillwinston · 12/05/2023 07:57

@Rusticanella sorry for the slow reply but welcome! My brother has a 16 year gap between his 2 kids and he loves it as the eldest can babysit for him and generally help out in the house whilst they're looking after the baby....when are you expecting AF? X

Stillwinston · 12/05/2023 08:00

@ttcat37 so sorry to hear AF arrived 😕 I'm glad you've managed to get an appointment for the fertility clinic but agree that you should fully enjoy Glastonbury first and then jump into it properly in July so you don't feel like you haven't given it your best shot.

Hope you're doing ok ❤️

Thanks for the welcome. AF in full swing.

So really all we have done last cycle is stopped using contraception. I am pretty clueless with ovulation dates etc, so will probably just carry on for a few months in a very relaxed way and try to watch and become a bit more in tune with my cycle.

cornflakes86 · 12/05/2023 10:13

@ttcat37 sorry to hear Af arrived . I hope you enjoy Glastonbury so jealous !

cornflakes86 · 12/05/2023 10:14

I took everyone’s advice and ordered the easy at home tests from Amazon they haven’t arrived yet. Think I’ve ovulated but not sure as didn’t bother with OPKs this month which is kind of refreshing to be honest !

CaffeineAndCrochet · 12/05/2023 11:46

On the subject of age gaps, there'll be at least 13 years of a gap if I manage to conceive. I had my first at 25, and have just turned 38, trying to conceive #2.

I'm about 9DPO today. Took a test and have a squinter, but possibly an evap line or a shadow. I want tomorrow morning to hurry up so I can test again. Last month, I didn't feel pregnant but I don't have the same sense this month.

StressyErica · 12/05/2023 12:05

Hi peeps. Can I join in too please? I'm fairly new to the conception board here and I thought I'd dive straight in and join the geriatric club. 😁 I'm 38 and have one living child (and a past loss) and it's been aaaaagess since I've done this TTC thing so I need to re-learn everything. We were one and done for years but things have changed and I would love another child.

Just started AF after our first round of kind of TTCing, so I guess this is day 1 of cycle 2. We'll see how it all goes!

Yes, I suppose it makes sense that "geriatric mothers" would have quite big age gaps. The families I know with a big age gap do seem to have a nice time and seem to do well so that's a good thing!

Hi!

Nice to "meet" you. Sorry to hear about your loss

I also am currently waiting to start trying during second cycle.

CinderRosie · 12/05/2023 12:31

Hi all can I join the thread please? I've had a quick skim through the replies and it's good to see others who would have huge age gaps, in real life I feel like I'm the only one! I had my first at 18, he is now 18 himself and I'm 37 this year. So I'm TTC #2, will be DH's first. First month of TTC, I'm 7DPO today but we only managed to DTD once in my fertile window so I'm not expecting a BFP. I've had some niggly cramps but nothing major. I am holding out until 14DPO to test which is next Friday.
