Conception
Conceiving after ectopic

Can anyone share their experiences of conceiving after an ectopic?
I had one last year, medical management rather than surgery and I still have both tubes, albeit they said it might cause some residual scarring on the left tube.
Been trying to get pregnant for 3 months now which I know is nothing in the grand scheme of things, but I'm going into my fertile window now and I'd love to hear some positivity from other people ❤️
I have had a healthy pregnancy before, pre-ectopic.

Hi, not a positive story but didn’t want to read and run. I had an ectopic last June and have been trying since September, unfortunately without a positive result :( I did have a chemical in January which I guess at least shows one tube must work enough to get an egg to the womb. Best of luck and hope it works out x

A friend of a friend (so I don't know details) had an ectopic pregnancy - I think her tube was removed. She's since had a healthy baby (I'd say pregnant within the year).

Hello,
I don't have a positive story (yet!!) but I am also going through the same thing. I found out I had an ectopic pregnancy in October last year which was treated with Methotrexate. This is our first cycle of being able to try again and should ovulate this week.
I have also had one healthy pregnancy, before the ectopic too.
Good Luck and I hope this is the month for you!

Hi, so I had an ectopic pregnancy with surgery to remove my left tube in April last year.
We were TTC after Operation for 6 months. I was tracking ovulation, it never happened, and I gave up and deleted all my apps, etc, as I was getting fed up of being let down every time AF turned up, lol.
On a positive note ✨️✨️Saturday 25th Feb evening, I got a BFP confirmed Sunday 26th with a clearblue digi 1-2 weeks. I wasn't due on my period until the 2nd March . So, I was overly shocked at the positive result . I'm just coming up to 5 weeks pregnant and have a placement scan on the 14th. I'm so anxious but keeping positive.
Best of luck to you.

Hi- I had a miscarriage in June, Ectopic in Nov (resolved naturally) and a further miscarriage in Dec. I’ve undergone tests including a Hycosy and there was no evidence of scaring or blockages “just one of those things and very bad luck”

That's good! My doctor did say to me sometimes it's better if the tube is removed anyway as if not the scarring left behind can cause another ectopic.
Glad she got pregnant in the end (a year feels like a lifetime though!)

Hey! Same, I had methotrexate too. Fingers crossed for this cycle!

I had a ruptured ectopic and tube removed about 18 months ago. We then avoided trying to conceive for about 5 months. The first month trying I became pregnant but had a really early (4-5weeks) loss. I then fell pregnant immediately afterwards and now have a 3 week old snuggled on me!
It’s likely I released an egg from my ‘good’ side those two months in a row and was lucky with dates.
Although sad of course, the miscarriage told me that my other tube was working and able to get a pregnancy to the correct place.
It took us 3 months of trying when I had both tubes (and was 4 years younger!) so I think it’s just a luck / numbers game. The likelihood is that you can and will fall pregnant, but it may take a bit longer than otherwise.

I’m also going through the same thing. Had an ectopic in August, have been trying since January and nothing so far, but we haven’t been very productive about procreation as we have a 18m old! Before the healthy pregnancy, I had 4 miscarriages.
floodbez1878 · 07/03/2023 17:23
Positive story- I had an idea ectopic June 2017, waited a year and conceived from the ectopic side and have a three year old now. We only waited as I was so scared of it happening again. I had medical treatment and no tube removal. I still have pain on that side but it's just nerve damage. 😊

Thank you- I’m surprisingly ok. I’m TTC #2 and grateful for what I have. Currently in yet another TWW. Good luck x

You're absolutely right, it's almost always a luck/numbers things. Thanks for sharing 😊

That's really interesting because I have cramps a lot on the side of my ectopic!

@lemonyfox
Mine was treated in Italy where we were living at the time and there was no way they wanted to remove the tube, I've had lots of scans etc and no issues.
I really crapped myself when I fell pregnant as I could feel pain that side and was convinced it was an ectopic but nope and we def know we conceived from that side as were told in a private scan.
Honoraryuce · 07/03/2023 18:05
Yes I managed to get pregnant after 2 years of trying post ectopic and was a totally healthy pregnancy. For comparison was a couple of months trying for my first and a couple of months of trying before conceiving my ectopic.
FingersCrossedXXX · 07/03/2023 18:37
@lemonyfox Thank you. Perhaps we can use this thread so those of us still trying after an ectopic can share our journey.
Glad to hear there have been some positive outcomes, even if taken a little longer.

@FingersCrossedXXX
I got pregnant first month trying at 37 post ectopic, we just waited ages as I was a bit scared/had some kind of PTSD I think!

Did the doctors suspect it was because of the ectopic that it took 2 years?

That's really interesting they can tell which side you ovulates and conceived from. Did you have to go for early scans once you found out you were pregnant again?
floodbez1878 · 07/03/2023 19:01
@lemonyfox yes.
I had a placement scan at 6 weeks which showed not ectopic then because it was too early they also gave me another scan two weeks later to show a heartbeat.
Couldn't fault the nhs to be honest.
Also had lots of private scans..mostly for my anxiety for reassurance as pre- ectopic I had a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks which was three months before my ectopic (and I got married the month in between 😓)
I had really bad anxiety about getting pregnant again and was convinced we would never had kids tbh. It was all a really shit time!
