Planning for TTC & waiting for 1st period 🩸

Wondered if anyone else is stopping their pill and fancies a thread for planning TTC and keeping eachother company while waiting for ovulation/1st period?

DP & I have decided to TTC baby 2. Our DS is 14m. He was conceived 1st cycle, within 2 weeks of stopping the pill, v lucky.

I'm still breastfeeding (3-4 times during the day, no overnight feeds now) and just come off cerelle. With BF in the mix no idea how long it's going to take for my cycles to return... I'm 37 so I'm hoping it's going to be fast!

First timers welcome too 🙂 when I got my BFP it was really handy and reassuring being on a thread with people who'd already had a baby.

This withdrawal bleed is the lightest I’ve ever had - worried it’s lulling me into a false sense of security and another one will hit next week!

Skyla01 · 26/09/2022 18:21

@Mayfield87 good luck! They say you are even more fertile after a baby so maybe you'll get lucky first time.

minnymilk · 26/09/2022 18:45

@Mayfield87 ooh exciting you're coming up for ovulation. Keeping my fingers crossed for you! 🤞

@TinkRose I guess you'd expect it to be like a normal withdrawal bleed, if you have bleeds on your pill? I've been on cerelle, which I don't bleed on.

@minnymilk I’ve been on Microgynon so always had the break with a bleed but this one is so light! I don’t know if it’s because of the treatment I had on my cervix a few weeks ago but it’s very odd.

Mayfield87 · 26/09/2022 19:01

@Skyla01 my son is 3 now so was a while ago but still hoping 🤞🏻
Thankyou @minnymilk 😘 good luck to you all too.
Anyone using OPK's, I have so far and not got a positive as yet.

TinkRose · 26/09/2022 19:01

Although my DP has just made the very good point (that I can’t believe I didn’t think of first) I had a cervical ectropion causing bleeding so that might have been why my periods were so heavy! And now that’s been treated, this one is lighter.

TinkRose · 26/09/2022 19:02

@Mayfield87 I’m going to wait a couple of months and see what happens before I use OPKs I think.

Mayfield87 · 26/09/2022 19:06

@TinkRose yes good to go with the relaxed approach. My hubby works shifts so I like to know we are doing it at the right time, plus the apps I'm using are totally wrong with the predicted ovulation date.

Mayfield87 · 26/09/2022 19:07

@TinkRose my withdrawal bleed was also very light but the period that came 4 weeks later was normal.

minnymilk · 26/09/2022 20:03

I was thinking about getting some OPKs. If only because if I don't I'll probably just keep doing pregnancy tests instead! If I'm not peeing on one kind of stick I'll definitely pee on another.

I've bought both @minnymilk 😂 can't help myself 🙈

Skyla01 · 26/09/2022 20:48

@Mayfield87 I agree with tinkrose- think I'll wait for a regular cycle before I start opks. Last time I used clear blue digital ones. They were very useful but also very expensive! If you are in juggling shift work though probably worth it. Or you can get the very cheap ones. Have you used them before?

FivePotatoesHigh · 26/09/2022 20:53

I bought some of the cheapie Easy@Home ones as I’ve heard good things about them. The thing is to get the Premom app as that will read your results for you.

Mayfield87 · 26/09/2022 20:58

Yes I use the cheap easy at home ones. Used them first time round with my son too. I'm just a bit of a control freak too- not great I know 🙈 @Skyla01

Hello ladies, just wanted to add my positive success story to give you all hope.
I’m nearly 40 and currently 18 weeks pregnant with our second baby. Our 1st baby is 20 months old and I stopped breastfeeding when they were 16 months. I came off Cerelle and waited 4 long weeks for a withdrawal bleed. As soon as it stopped we had sex every other day and within the first month I was pregnant.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you all!

minnymilk · 26/09/2022 21:48

Wow thank you @BattenburgBerry that's lovely! Congratulations 🙂hope it's all going well and thanks for sharing. Do you mind if I ask how long it took to conceive your first baby?

BattenburgBerry · 27/09/2022 08:01

Our first baby was conceived the second month of trying. We didn’t have enough sex the first month!!
My top tips are: sex every other day, don’t stand up straight after, prop your bottom up on a pillow for 20 mins after sex (looks funny but I swear this is why I got pregnant so quick!) and keep your feet warm. Another odd tip but I always have cold feet so I made sure I wore fluffy socks round the house. Google it, something to do with Chinese medicine I think. Anyway, doesn’t cost anything to wear socks so I thought I may as well!
Good luck! ☺️

BattenburgBerry · 27/09/2022 08:04

Also, take care with ovulation apps and test sticks. I used them the first time round and tested from about day 10 onwards. But actually I seem to ovulate early so missed the fertile window. Best bet is to just have sex every other day from the day your period stops.

Skyla01 · 27/09/2022 10:05

@Mayfield87 last time round I got so stressed out TTC over 13 long months so determined not to make myself miserable again this time. But there's a really good chance you'll conceive quickly enough so a bit of short-term obsessing is ok!

@BattenburgBerry agree lots and lots of DTD is a pretty fool proof plan! Great that you conceived so quickly. Not sure I'll have the energy for that with a toddler running around as well but will give it a go once my cycle is back on track.

Mayfield87 · 27/09/2022 13:05

I agree with @BattenburgBerry as currently my app says I ovulate yesterday but my OPKs still haven't produced a peak. I ovulate later than the app so would normally give up thinking I've done as much as I could that month.
Congratulations too ❤️
@Skyla01 yep totally get that, I think if you can just relax and go with it, it is a more enjoyable process.

Hi Ladies! Just wondering if I can join onto your chat… I came off the mini pill last week and have been impatiently waiting for withdrawal bleeding or my AF! None have made an appearance yet but after reading through this thread that sounds normal - phew. I have saw someone mention pregnacare pre pregnancy vitamins can cause something with messing up your cycle?! I started taking these the day I stopped my pill so really worried that might not be helping! Does anyone have any advice for me? I started taking them as I didn’t have a clue what vitamins I needed and that tablet seemed to have it all - are there better ones I could be taking instead? I am TTC #1 so very new to all this and don’t really have a clue what I’m doing!

loved reading through this thread and excited to keep updated on all your progress. Spreading lots of baby dust to you all 😍xxx

HoppingTiger · 27/09/2022 22:18

I have also just come off the pill as planning to ttc number 1. We have decided to not officially try until January as it works better with a holiday planned next year early summer. Also thought it would be good to allow 2-3 months for my cycle to settle. Started taking Seven Seas folic acid & vitamins.

I have had a withdrawal bleed but no period yet.

FivePotatoesHigh · 28/09/2022 08:49

Had a tiny bit of possible AF today although very light. Am hoping this is it and she’s finally showing up!

FivePotatoesHigh · 28/09/2022 08:59

PS why have all tracking apps been designed for people who know when their cycle is every month? (I know the answer, I’ve read articles about it, it’s cos they were designed by men)

HoppingTiger · 28/09/2022 11:19

Does anyone know if first period usually comes randomly or 3 weeks after withdrawal bleed? (I had withdrawal bleed and it was definitely lighter and shorter so not a period)

Agree on the apps. I downloaded Flo and am trying to get to grips with it ready for when my period comes.

I think I'll get some easy@home to try and start working out when ovulation is once my cycle regulates. Hoping to DTD every other day but think it'll be good to be aware when we really need to make sure we do it.

It is all quite surreal to me. I know you can never feel fully ready and everything else in my life is at a good stage for a baby. But it is scary.
