SMEP - anyone giving this a try this month and want to join me?

New to mumsnet 🙋‍♀️ and I've seen loads of threads where everyone is so lovely and supportive so thought I'd post. This is our 4th cycle ttc #2, 1st cycle giving SMEP a try as I've seen so many success stories. With our first, we got so lucky and ended up pregnant on our first month trying so this waiting is a bit of a shock, although I know out 1st was the exception not the norm! Would love to hear any success stories, or any other ladies that want to compare notes this month x

@Aurora81 we will definitely carry on all cycle but will be a lot less as my partner has a physically tiring job running up and down stairs constantly all day so he won’t be up for it more than once every 3 days or so. He did the every other day and then 3 days in a row SMEP (well tonight will be third, day after ovulation) as he really wants me pregnant ha ha. I would go every other day through my whole cycle if he would 😂

allgoodthings84 · 11/08/2022 13:41

Similar to the many articles I read so if you feel up to doing it every day definitely go for it

allgoodthings84 · 11/08/2022 13:41

@NSx that message above was to you I forgot to tag 🤦‍♀️

EdinburghGirl1 · 11/08/2022 13:47

@Mum2DD89 did you manage even though you were knackered?

@Aurora81 totally agree about still making it fun when you can and DTD throughout cycle. I don't tell my OH when I'm ovulating but just make sure to seduce him when required 😀don't think he seems to mind

@NSx I don't think there's any harm in DTD today as well. totally up to you but if you don't I'm sure it won't matter. Just do what feels right for you and if you're both in the mood then why not!

Seems like quite a few of you are just approaching ovulation at the same time. I'm CD 7 today and started OPK (blank O) as it's the first one but started having EWCM today so feel like it's going to be another month of early ovulation. I really hope it doesn't affect things as starting to worry a bit.

allgoodthings84 · 11/08/2022 13:53

@EdinburghGirl1 i watched a video of a scientist who did a study on this and people in his study who got pregnant ovulated from CD8 to CD24 and 20% of people who ovulated CD10 or earlier got pregnant and it was only fractionally higher % for the ones who ovulated at a “normal” time. He only counted CD10 or earlier as early ovulation too

EdinburghGirl1 · 11/08/2022 14:14

thanks @allgoodthings84 good to know. I have tried looking into it and don't think there's a lot I can do. So much more about lengthening luteal phase as I know a short luteal phase can cause issue. That seems to be 14/15 days so that's good at least.

allgoodthings84 · 11/08/2022 14:40

@EdinburghGirl1 what CD do you think you will ovulate?

allgoodthings84 · 11/08/2022 14:42

@EdinburghGirl1 your LP is great so I imagine will be ok 😊

EdinburghGirl1 · 11/08/2022 14:42

@allgoodthings84 last cycle it was CD 11. Got my peak CD10 so presuming it will be similar again.

allgoodthings84 · 11/08/2022 14:44

@EdinburghGirl1 i think it’s just about ok and a lot of scientists/doctors say it’s absolutely fine

Aurora81 · 11/08/2022 14:54

@EdinburghGirl1 I try not to tell my DH when I'm ovulating unless he asks me about it, which he has this month. I prefer dtd to be more about dtd than bd. He's off tomorrow, so hopefully we can catch the morning energy men have 😅😉

@allgoodthings84 my DH will be tired later as he started at 5am, but he sent me back 😘, so I guess he will be up for it 😉 the office I work in has lots of stairs too, so I understand. Let's go with the flow after ovulation I guess but still have dtd time. Am I the only one who looks at their partners rota and think Yes!! 😊 When they see a day off 😄

@dobby13 I am going to keep the 🍆 symbol for tomorrow 😂

@NSx I must read the link when I get a chance. How many flashing ☺ do you normally get? I think sperm can live for up to 5 days, so I suppose it's definitely about having them already in place.

Mum2DD89 · 11/08/2022 14:58

@EdinburghGirl1 yep, CD10 done ✔️ wasnt the most enjoyable in this heat but there we go! Cant change gym days either with work and childcare 🤦‍♀️

@NSx I heard good things about morning sperm too, I say go for it if you're both feeling it!

I've read somewhere that egg follicles are maturing all of the time so you'll have several follicles all at different stages and ovulation will make the most mature pop if that makes sense so I don't think early ovulation is an issue, only short LP so think you're fine 😘

allgoodthings84 · 11/08/2022 15:04

I much prefer morning sex when we can. It’s usually only Sundays we can do that though 😂

EdinburghGirl1 · 11/08/2022 15:08

thanks @Mum2DD89 yeah BD in the heat isn't the best. I was in my fertile week last time it was really hot a few weeks ago and my OH was not up for it until later in the evening and after having a shower to cool off lol. That's good you got CD ticked off as you might say.

NSx · 11/08/2022 15:28

@Aurora81 @EdinburghGirl1 @Mum2DD89 @allgoodthings84 I think im answering you all collectively 😅 I’m at work and it’s so hard to keep up in here.
so I will take all your advice and DTD today as it’s cd10 and I got my first flashy smiley…
we will also DTD tomorrow as there will be another flashy smiley (even tho SPEM says miss a day, but as you all said why not!) and then again Sat morning cd12🤞 as I heard morning sperm is better…
normally I get 2/3 flashy smileys — so hopefully by Sunday will get my static 😂😅 and we will DTD on Sunday and potentially Monday & then I will die. 😂😅 I don’t really know how else to work all this out 😂😂

I will be using my fertilily aswell 🌸

also it’s bloody roasting in Scotland 🥹 🆘

dobby13 · 11/08/2022 15:31

Glad it's not just me that's roasting - as if my fertile week has landed with this weather - there aren't enough fans in the world, I swear 🥵🥵🥵

NSx · 11/08/2022 15:33

@dobby13 its not the best is it 😂😂😂 cold shower after 😅

Aurora81 · 11/08/2022 18:13

@NSx jusy got my static ☺/peak on the clearblue opk. High this morning and peak now this evening🤷🏻‍♀️

Cd 8 ✅ Cd 10 ✅ cd 12/peak ✅ I am going to test out the Lh surge tomorrow with cheapies

NatGee · 11/08/2022 18:14

Just posted this on a different thread and meant to put it here doh

What I said is that I am feeling really optimistic for this group, I think we will have great results this month, we've got this ladies!!!

allgoodthings84 · 11/08/2022 19:10

@NatGee I’m feeling like there will be lots of bfp here too!

@Aurora81 I’ve be wrong used CB opk, does that mean you should ovulate tomorrow? Like the peak with a cheapie? That’s exciting! And you now know the day 8 dtd was within fertile period so totally worth doing SMEP!

allgoodthings84 · 11/08/2022 19:11

@Aurora81 that meant to say “I’ve never used CB opk” no idea why auto correct changed it

Aurora81 · 11/08/2022 19:23

@allgoodthings84 my phone is constantly changing what I type.. Tres annoying! I will see how my temps are tomorrow but I have a feeling ovulation will occur tomorrow. I just wonder would the cb opk have picked up the peak in the morning if I didn't test this evening. It might still have been high tomorrow and never have gone to peak 🤷🏻‍♀️

Aurora81 · 11/08/2022 19:24

@NatGee 😅 I am sure they will appreciate the positivity of your comment 😁

allgoodthings84 · 11/08/2022 19:27

@Aurora81 i think it’s another reason I like the cheapies I can take 2-3 a day when I know I’m getting close without it costing loads. Downside is there are no flashing days to warn you it’s coming I guess but that’s why I like the idea of SMEP as doesn’t matter so much if it’s sudden.

NSx · 11/08/2022 19:41

@Aurora81 i thought cb was to be used with first morning Urine ? Can u use it in the afternoon?

Congratulations 🎉 wooo will u DTD for the next 3 days now ? (Including today?)

@NatGee i hope you’re right, it’s certainly not for the lack of trying 😅😂
