SMEP - anyone giving this a try this month and want to join me?

New to mumsnet 🙋‍♀️ and I've seen loads of threads where everyone is so lovely and supportive so thought I'd post. This is our 4th cycle ttc #2, 1st cycle giving SMEP a try as I've seen so many success stories. With our first, we got so lucky and ended up pregnant on our first month trying so this waiting is a bit of a shock, although I know out 1st was the exception not the norm! Would love to hear any success stories, or any other ladies that want to compare notes this month x

Hey ladies, can I join? I can see this thread is quite established already! Hoping to try this for the first time this cycle as we've been trying number 2 for a while. It's CD8 tomorrow so I'm limbering up for a busy week! Haha!

@NSx I honestly never used it in the evening before but something told me to try it as when I did the cheapie opk I could see it was at peak. I don't think the machine will let me test again in the morning 🤔just checked and the static ☺ is still there so I will check with a cheapie tomorrow. Literally hoping DH will be in the mood tomorrow morning, as he has a day off. I will see what my temps do in the morning, as they were definitely dipping this morning.

@allgoodthings84 the cheapies are just as accurate re peak, but I find the flashing ☺ handy as it let's me know that I am in the fertile period. Plus, the cheapies were totally negative yesterday and then high and peak today. Looks like I get a fast surge.

I was looking back and the month I conceived we dtd CD 10 and CD 12, then I ovulated CD 14, and we dtd again CD 15, and CD 16. I thought we were out because we never dtd on the day I ovulated.

@Aurora81 fast surge here too. High in morning then peak late afternoon on Tuesday. That’s the good thing about SMEP I guess, we don’t miss those lead up days completely

@Aurora81 the static stays there for 48 hours so don't think you can test again. Interesting to know about when you conceived before. Looking back from when I conceived my daughter (still saved in Ovia which I'm using again now) we DTD ovulation day, 2 days before , 4 days before and also day after

Low OPK again today on CD8 which I'm happy about so shouldn't be getting peak earlier than last cycle which is good. We BD last night so not sure if we will tonight. Not sure whether to do alternate days from yesterday. So funny having to think when you should have sex 😂

@Aurora81 i just read the instructions on the box - it tells u to test first morning urine until u get first flashing smiley then it tells u that u can test again if u wish, u will show static smiley for 48h after that 😄💫 ..

we bd cd8, cd10 and today I’m on cd11, will do my OPK’s today and decide if to miss out tonight as we’re planning to bd tomorrow morning early before my partner goes to work which would be cd12 … I’m inclined to give a break in between to just give the swimmers a break 😂 I don’t know, will see what my OPK’s say later on today ☺️

@NSx yes absolutely. I love the sunshine. I know what you mean about a little break. We will probably DTD over the weekend and hopefully mornings since my DD is at her dads so won't be waking us up early 😂

I'm taking today as DPO1 following my OPK result on Wednesday, so am officially starting my two week wait today.

I'm already impatient (this doesn't bode well).

@EdinburghGirl1 well the thing is I’ve been looking at pregnant peoples charts on fertility friend and the patterns are mostly every other day for people who got pregnant except when positive OPK than people are DTD every day, so I don’t think it’s necessary to DTD every day on the lead up, maybe just the 2 days prior to ovulation.
Plus I do think it might be good to let the swimmers replenish for a day, however I’m still not fully decided 😂😂

Good morning ✨ so my temp rose this morning from 36.11°c to 36.31°c... 😵Ovulation looked like CD 12 🤷🏻‍♀️🤔 going to dtd when I get back from work just in case. Peaked and ovulated on the same day 🤔 of course I did 😐

@Aurora81 wow that's a fast ovulation. Good job you test so much. Definitely no harm DTD tonight too

@EdinburghGirl1 I honestly don't think it ever happened so fast before... I literally was 😲 I guess my body did what my body wanted to do 😅

@NSx it looks like those two conceive dtd the day before ovulation. Have you noticed that?

@EdinburghGirl1 … yea I was just studying a few charts and I don’t think they dtd religiously some did more than others obvs, but the key was DTD couple days before ovulation and during ovulation, then a couple days before - so I’m gonna skip today I think, unless I get a high reading on OPK this afternoon, which I find unlikely as I’m not due to ovulate until Monday I don’t think, plus I’m going to get up at 5am to do it tomorrow morning, so won’t be much later than if I did it this evening.

@Aurora81 did u have a look too? Yea it seems people who DTD the day before or 2 days before seem to catch, so I think I’m going to aim to do sat and Sunday in the hope ovulation comes Monday fx

@NSx as they say it only takes once. And yeah I think you're right it's good to have some swimmers there waiting for when the egg is released. The sun has now started to come out in Edinburgh which is good.

@Aurora81 absolutely agree on the OPKs. I have cheap ones but thought getting a CB with the flashing smiley would be perfect. I think the BD cadence you describe when you conceived is perfect. BDing too close to ovulation I'm not sure it works as well as beginning a few days before? Good luck lovely, does this mean you're officially into your TWW now? :)

@dobby13 ahhh brilliant! it'll be so difficult to be patient, I've never wished time away as much as I have recently haha

I'll be starting my SMEP program on Sunday which is when I will be CD8 however I am already beginning to feel frisky and wonder if ill ovulate early this cycle?

You guys all seem so knowledgeable, we've been trying for a while but this is my second month using the CB OPKs, last month was very satisfying seeing that static smiley face. Not sure how many cycles that feeling will last?! POAS today and got the blank circle so will see how the next few days shape up.
I can see some of you are using cheap OPKs in the evening as well as in the morning. Might give that a try too although trying to keep some of romance alive as well is not easy!

Speaking of OPKs - I got my CB and it recommends using first morning urine however reading fertility blogs etc they say to absolutely not do this

What do you ladies do?

@NatGee i use first morning it always worked for me on CB but I test twice morning and later on cheapies

@fsr111 - I hear you on keeping the romance alive, it can be challenging when you feel like you're on a schedule.

@fsr111 yeah I get what you mean about doing it to schedule. Takes some of the fun out. I think trying to mix it up a little helps and to have just for fun sex at other times too.

@NatGee I use FMU for CB as they state but I know for others it is suggested to do it later on
