SMEP - anyone giving this a try this month and want to join me?

New to mumsnet 🙋‍♀️ and I've seen loads of threads where everyone is so lovely and supportive so thought I'd post. This is our 4th cycle ttc #2, 1st cycle giving SMEP a try as I've seen so many success stories. With our first, we got so lucky and ended up pregnant on our first month trying so this waiting is a bit of a shock, although I know out 1st was the exception not the norm! Would love to hear any success stories, or any other ladies that want to compare notes this month x

@NSx i don’t blame you. If I consistently ovulated later I wouldn’t start at 8dpo either as seems a waste of time when you know you’re going to need to do it lots soon. I wish I could just do every other day throughout the cycle and but know we would never stick to it 😂 and I like to know when AF is due.

NSx · 08/09/2022 17:01

I’m hoping to ovulate on Monday … so I’ll do fri sat Sunday and Monday - still on the fence about today as I got a O on my OPK. So might not even ovulate Monday who knows 😂😂😂 don’t have a bloody clue 😩 by now I would have had a flashy smiley 🙃 @allgoodthings84

LucyFraser1981 · 08/09/2022 17:29

I was naughty and used another CB opk, just wanted to see if it made a difference, but still a big O which is what I expected as the premom number hadn't changed either 🤦🏻‍♀️😅
@NSx I think I'm going to cancel my day 21 blood test as A. I've just realised I booked dit for CD23 somehow, and B. I spoke to a fertility doctor at a private clinic today to get her advice, and she agreed that as my cycles are super regular and my BBT chart shows a biphasic pattern then she's pretty convinced I ovulate, as am I. She suggested I would potentially want to go for an "MOT" with a scan & bloods etc, but it's about £300, which we can't really afford at the moment due to house renovation etc, so I may just go for the AMH blood test for now, as that should give me a general idea. Plus she agreed it would be a good idea for partner to have a sperm analysis done again (last one was three years ago, but all was fine).
Also have tentatively booked an initial consultation/treatment with an acupuncturist for the start of next cycle, but hoping I don't need it 😬🤞

Where's cheapest to get the CB purple ovulation sticks? And can I keep using the original digital reader or do the batteries run out too quickly to get more than one month of use?

Glad all your GPs are at least trying to be helpful, I get absolutely nothing down here in Somerset because I'm 40 and have my son already. Seems so unfair that my partner is essentially penalised for being with me 😕

allgoodthings84 · 08/09/2022 17:32

@NSx it’s so annoying isn’t it when something doesn’t follow as it usually happens. Puts you all out. Sounds like you will be doing plenty dtd anyway even if you don’t go for it tonight

NSx · 08/09/2022 17:36

@LucyFraser1981 you have to buy the entire kit again, check on eBay sometimes you can snap a kit up for much cheaper 🤞 I always have a few kits on standby 😂 …
I think you have a great plan of action, I bet it feels nice to be organised and on a good path. What did she say about your periods? Mine are also regular but I’m scared I am not ovulating and I don’t know why 😂😅
@allgoodthings84 when I fell in feb I DTD 3 times, the 2 flashy days and 1 static that was it. So I’m inclined to just give it a miss tonight - will see how I feel when I get home from work 😅
thanks for the moral support 💕

allgoodthings84 · 08/09/2022 17:57

@LucyFraser1981 surely you should be able to get the day 3 and 21 bloods I’m getting? I have a child already too. I don’t think these just confirm ovulation I think they check other hormonal things too. I won’t get any treatment on nhs. I feel the same as you in some ways that it’s unfair on our partners if they lose out or have to end the relationship to find someone else! I can’t imagine my partner would do that so he would lose out. He loves my daughter but she has her dad who is very much in her life so it’s not the same for him at all

@NSx it sounds like you have a great plan and it will happen for you soon! I keep worrying I don’t ovulate too but I have zero reason to think that 🤦‍♀️. Then I convince myself I’ve got low progesterone that’s why I spot before AF. Then I go on to thinking I have too much estrogen after ovulation it must be it which then makes me spot. Then I go to there must be something wrong with my cervix like polyps or cysts that make me spot 😂 although I think if it was those I would spot other times too. Basically it’s the spotting that bothers me but the GP did not seem bothered one jot about that

allgoodthings84 · 08/09/2022 17:58

I’m secretly glad they have said my partner must have a sperm analysis too as I’m so interested to know his results! I love knowing stats etc ha ha

NSx · 08/09/2022 19:11

@allgoodthings84 all of the things you’ve said I feel 😂😂 I’ve ran every scenario through my head because I haven’t fallen pregnant yet and I’m onto cycle 3 only which isn’t even bad, I think because it happened so fast the first time round it makes me scared it won’t- sounds daft but it’s the logic in my head 😂😅 that doesn’t even make sense I know 🥲

allgoodthings84 · 08/09/2022 19:40

@NSx it makes sense to me I totally get it and feel the same. I’m only on cycle 4 and I was only have sex once every 1-2 weeks when I conceived my daughter and I wasn’t tracking anything at all as wasn’t ttc just wasn’t always using protection. I was shocked at the time and even more shocked now that we dtd more and time it properly. It sucks. I’m not a patient person when i really want something 😂

allgoodthings84 · 08/09/2022 19:41

I’ve ordered a choose your own dozen box of Krispy Kreme doughnut to be delivered to me on AF due day this cycle 😂

NSx · 08/09/2022 20:25

@allgoodthings84 that’s so funny - when I was pregnant I was having mad dreams about Krispy Kremes 😂😂😂 …
glad u see the logic in my crazy mind. I hope for both our sakes it happens sooner rather than later, I don’t know if I can put up with myself for much longer 😂😅😅😅

allgoodthings84 · 08/09/2022 20:33

@NSx i know right! I’m normally so level headed but I’m now crazy thinking everything is wrong with me 😂 hopefully we both get our bfp this cycle. If I could be pregnant by my birthday it would be amazing and if my next 2 cycles are 24 days then AF would be due on my birthday. Of course would love to be pregnant before that though. Be mega pissed off if AF arrives on my birthday so if I’m not pregnant by then I hope that cycle is a couple days longer ha ha

I love Krispy Kreme! I rarely have them but they are one of my favourite treats. I’m a bit annoyed that the glazed raspberry ones aren’t an option online though as they are my favourite!

NSx · 08/09/2022 20:36

@allgoodthings84 probably an unpopular opinion but I like the one with custard in the middle the best 😍😍 …

oh fingers crossed when is your bday? im hoping to be pregnant by my due date which was 8 November 🤞✨
sending lots of baby dust 💕😊

allgoodthings84 · 08/09/2022 20:52

@NSx i wouldn’t say no to any of them apart from the reeses one 🐷. Birthday is 3rd November, can’t say I’m excited about it although I’m excited about the concert my partner has bought us tickets for for one of my presents a couple weeks after which would also be 5 years since our first date!

NSx · 08/09/2022 20:59

My fiancé is 4 November 💕 … that sounds like a lovely birthday but tbh I’m dreading November 😩 … let’s see how it pans out @allgoodthings84 Time will tell x

allgoodthings84 · 08/09/2022 21:01

@NSx i really hope you get your bfp before November! I will be keeping everything crossed for you

NSx · 08/09/2022 21:03

Likewise 🤞✨ 😊 @allgoodthings84

allgoodthings84 · 08/09/2022 21:26

I have just seen the Queen’s funeral is expected to be Monday 19th so thinking my first blood test will be cancelled. It was going to be day 4 as day 3 will be a Sunday and I’m not sure if cd5 would be too late. Guess I’ll wait and see. I don’t mean this in a heartless way I’m very sad about the Queen and for her family.

NSx · 08/09/2022 21:52

@allgoodthings84 19 of sept? That’s my day 21 😂😂😂

it’s so sad isn’t it 😩 I can’t believe she passed, rest her soul 🤍

allgoodthings84 · 08/09/2022 21:56

@NSx a lot of news places are estimating it to be then. It’s going to be strange as it’s all a lot of the population has known.

LucyFraser1981 · 09/09/2022 07:06

@NSx Oh I love a plan, love to be organised! The more information and data I have, the happier I am 😁
I'll just have to bite the bullet and get the kit again then 🙄 I just assume it's not going to be easy for us, mainly down to my age. The fertility doctor said as my periods are so regular and I chart my bbt she'd be inclined to not even worry about testing my LH levels either.
I think because we've been pregnant before, and this time it's not happened easily, it's only natural to assume somethings wrong, but everything I've read seems to say that sometimes, for unknown reasons, it just takes a while. I hate being out of control, so it's why I think I focus on all the things I can do/test etc.

@allgoodthings84 they've only offered day 21, but as I know I'm ovulating due to super regular periods and my BBT chart the fertility doctor agreed it would be fairly pointless to have them done, I may still get them anyway, but that's all my surgery has offered, nothing else at all. Hence why I arranged to speak to a private fertility doctor 😕 a whole MOT package with them would be about £300, so I may just go for the AMH if we don't conceive this cycle, as that's £80.

allgoodthings84 · 09/09/2022 07:54

@LucyFraser1981 i wasn’t offered day 3 either at first I had to ask for them. The gp didn’t even seem to know about them as she had to look on the system to see if it’s something they do! She said they only ever give people the day 21 bloods at our surgery and it’s enough but she agreed to it after I asked and she had looked it up. I asked for a general blood test too to check if I’m deficient in anything and she agreed to that but not because of ttc but because I used to have a really bad b12 deficiency 10 years ago. I was only really offered day 21 bloods and a sperm analysis for my partner

NSx · 09/09/2022 08:27

@LucyFraser1981 @allgoodthings84
I finally got my first flashing smiley 😃 cd11 so a day later than expected 😅 temperature also rose today a bit … finally time to bd 🎉
I think the CB OPK is like £27 in Boots but you will get it for about £15 on EBay, so worth looking at …
@allgoodthings84 I haven’t heard anything about 19th in my work yet - wonder if we will be closed

LucyFraser1981 · 09/09/2022 09:02

@allgoodthings84 knowing my surgery I don't think I'll get anything more from them 😕 hoping my partner's surgery will let him have another sperm analysis as his last one was three years ago, but who knows 😒

@NSx just waiting for my CB results now! Glad your flashing 🙂 arrived!

LucyFraser1981 · 09/09/2022 09:05

@NSx um, I've got a static smiley face. Does that mean I've bypassed the flashing ones, as both of yesterday's CB tests were just O?!
