SMEP - anyone giving this a try this month and want to join me?

New to mumsnet 🙋‍♀️ and I've seen loads of threads where everyone is so lovely and supportive so thought I'd post. This is our 4th cycle ttc #2, 1st cycle giving SMEP a try as I've seen so many success stories. With our first, we got so lucky and ended up pregnant on our first month trying so this waiting is a bit of a shock, although I know out 1st was the exception not the norm! Would love to hear any success stories, or any other ladies that want to compare notes this month x

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 sorry AF arrived for you. That is early. I don't know anything about breastfeeding and cycles so don't have any advice. I'm hoping this month is a lucky month for us all.

@NSx @NatGee I'm so impatient too. Feels like so much waiting. I'm also cycle 3. Well almost into cycle 4 and just can't stand the idea of it taking 6 months plus. I also had symptoms with DD so just know I'm out this time

I'm sorry that AF is here @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7, hope CD1 has treated you kindly enough. We could do with some luck on this thread! 😅

I've been feeling totally exhausted the past couple of days, but feel the same before AF so no way of knowing if that's anything remarkable! I resisted testing on your good advice @EdinburghGirl1 @NatGee! It's just too tempting sometimes. Will live in hope for a couple more days! Totally hear you on feeling impatient. I feel like I had it all planned out, smallish age gap between DCs and a different job, and all of that's gone out the window whilst I wait (and wait, and wait)

@EdinburghGirl1 @NSx @fsr111 @NatGee fingers crossed your AF’s don’t arrive. I had zero symptoms with my daughter, didn’t even know I was pregnant until nearly 7 weeks!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I’m so sorry AF has arrived. It’s rubbish isn’t it. It’s bad enough we aren’t pregnant but have to put up with AF too! I know AF is important due ttc but once I’ve had another baby I would be happy for it to not come back. I wouldn’t miss it

It’s hard when in your head you get to cycle 3 and start to think it’s not going to happen. Realistically you know it’s not long at all but it makes you feel like there’s no point in hoping. This is what’s happened to me. it makes the 2ww easier though.

@EdinburghGirl1 you just know your body don’t u. I’m waiting patiently on AF was either coming Tue or Wed, but was late by 3 days last month so anything goes really 😅

@allgoodthings84 honestly I’m not holding my breath at all. Will wait and see when AF shows this week 🥹😅

Thank you. Such a lovely supportive group. I know we're saying three cycles isn't very long, and it really really isn't in ttc time at all, but it is when you think it's a quarter of a year! No wonder we're impatient.

Yes we need some luck on this thread, and maybe it'll be arriving this week 🤞

Spwaking of impatience, someone on a different thread recommended the book " the impatient womans guide to getting pregnant". I find these reads so encouraging, educational and most of all distracting that if you have time i too recommend. One other I thought was so useful is real nutrition for pregnancy. Both excellent reads.

Yeah I know 3 cycles really isn't that long but any time just feels long when your ttc

My mood keeps flipping between being hopeful and just knowing I'm out.. even my sore boobs have gone, I have zero symptoms, not even any PMS symptoms! But my chart looks so pretty, can't help but think my body is trolling me 😭 AF due Thurs or Fri.. I will hold out testing until after she's late as can't cope with seeing a BFN!

Hubby's birthday today so at least that's something to take my mind off of it all.

Is anyone else planning on testing soon? @fsr111 are you still holding out?

@Mum2DD89 from my limited knowledge that chart looks promising! Went to test this morning, even though I knew it was a bad idea, and just as I was getting it out of the box my DD woke up so I had to put it away again! Haha!

@EdinburghGirl1 to be fair I wasn’t looking for symptoms as wasn’t ttc but I know I had no inkling at all so there was nothing majorly different to normal

AF has arrived 😩😩 onto cycle 3 for me… CD1
atleast my last cycle was 28 days 😅 every cloud has a silver lining I suppose

@NSx sorry to hear this but I know you were expecting it. At least you're onto a new cycle and fresh hope. Lots of baby dust to you for this cycle. Will you be trying SMEP again?

Hi ladies 😊sorry I have been awol 🥺 I am just so tired of the emotional TTC roller-coaster ride, so I had to take a few days away from it. Cd 5 today and AF is nearly gone, as I just have a bit of spotting. EDD will be 2nd of June if we conceive this cycle ✨

it’s ok I had a feeling tbh. I just knew - it’s the start of a new cycle and my AF is regular so hopefully that’s a good sign,
I don’t know if I will 100% follow SMEP as it hasn’t worked - I’m maybe going to just DTD on the days of flashy and static smileys + the day after …
I think it might be good to save sperm for a few days & not deplete it.
im also having my bloods done on Thursday which is day 3 & I’m going to push for day 21 bloods so hopefully I will know if I ovulate or not this cycle x

@NSx I am thinking the same thing. We are going to do a 3 day hold and hopefully time dtd for the day before ovulation. I am also going to visually watch the opk progression, as I don't find the app captures the picture correctly when the lighting isn't optimal. I get fast LH surges, so I'll test more often when the opks start getting darker.That's great that you are getting the blood tests done, as it will give you peace of mind.

@NSx i am sorry your AF arrived :( you did have a feeling and I believed you were wrong. yeah a new cycle and a new chance at it. I hope you have better luck this month xx

@Aurora81 yea when I conceived in feb, I DTD for 3 days in a row - two flashy and 1 smiley day. That was it - so gonna to for that approach I think.
