Hi ladies, we're onto thread 5! I'm afraid I've completely lost track of the list since I took a break off Mumsnet.... so let's make an updated one!

Roll call for those

  • TTC graduates.... pregnant ladies who are you and when are you due? Hope you're all doing well

  • Actively trying.... what cycle are we all in? Any particular plans for this next one?

  • Waiting to TTC.... what month are you planning on starting?

@dobby13 hope the tww goes quickly for you

@SarahShorty I'll need to give that a watch. That's crazy and really does put it into perspective.

@Mortima sorry you've had such a wonky cycle but I have heard Covid can mess it up. Fingers crossed this cycle is more regular. That's lovely you have a new kitten to focus on

@LucyLoopyLu so far we have the venue booked (they're doing our ceremony, reception, all the food, drink and accommodation, photographer and videographer and trying to get DJ booked this month then save the dates out before the end of the year. Chosen but not bought a dress yet (when i tried it on my mum goes "oh its perfect! And you could even hide a bump under that skirt!!" - noone knows we're even thinking of trying :') )

I'd be reluctant to move it tbh as we managed to secure our 10th anniversary as the wedding date which just feels so so special. I think if we did get the BPD I'd just roll with the punches and get married bump'n'all.

Have you got everything planned for your big day now?? I'm going to DIY all our decor so thinking it'll be a nice little hobby/distraction to keep me busy in TWW's :)

I almost sent an email at work that said 'pre-ovulation' instead of 'pre-notification' today. I swear this has taken over my brain 😂😂😂

@SarahShorty is The Great Sperm Race the one where people pretend to be sperm? I found it a bit surreal (do the actors put 'sperm' on their resume?), but also very interesting - and somewhat disheartening in terms of just how difficult it all seems to be. Average 250 million sperm released, only a few make it to the egg. Definitely agree it's worth a watch. So much really does just come down to luck - which I imagine most of us find pretty hard to get our heads around as it's out of our control

@Mortima sorry for AF but at least you're on to the next cycle, and yay for a kitten! Covid can definitely mess with your cycles, so at least you're past that one now.

@dobby13 haha! pre-baby brain! Good thing you noticed. Hope the tww doesn't drag for you.

@DanisEndo Don't want to be presumptuous but I think you meant to tag me? ah that's lovely your big day will be on your 10th anniversary, I can see why you wouldn't want to rearrange. I'd definitely stick with the date - guess the only issue is if you're due around that time, otherwise very workable, especially with a dress that will accommodate a bump! It's less than 3 months to go till our wedding and there's still a fair bit to get sorted! The big stuff is all done, but still some few bits and pieces. Have my first dress fitting in a few weeks, which will be a good reminder of just one of the reasons we're waiting to try - my dress definitely wouldn't fit much of a bump! Though I love those weddings where they announce they're pregnant in the speeches.

I'm a little bit annoyed - I read that if you're planning ttc and are due a smear in the near future, you can ask your gp for one, so I phoned up and the receptionist confirmed it would be ok. Turned up today and the nurse said no, even though it's only a few months till I'm due my smear, and I'd had the ok from the receptionist. Even more irritating that my appointment was meant to be on Wednesday but when I turned up they'd given it to someone else so had to come back today. All a bit of a waste of time!

Has anyone else had an early smear due to ttc?

SarahShorty · 12/08/2022 14:08

@DesertSnow Yes. I found it quite bitter-sweet but also very informative. I cried at the end when seeing the little baby in the pram, I was just like "That's great, but I didn't make that baby."

It may take some couples longer than others, though that doesn't necessarily mean that there is anything wrong with either person. That's why it's recommended to seek help after a year of trying if under 35 or 6 months of trying if 35 or over. I'll be 35 in the next couple of months and because the clinic I go to isn't doing semen analyses until around September, if they find anything wrong, we may be offered IVF before we hit the 1 year mark.

In the meantime, just have to relax and keep tracking/charting and DTD at the right times and eventually an egg and a sperm will meet. Maybe two eggs and sperm will meet, or maybe the egg will split. You never know!

@DesertSnow oh my gosh yes i did ahaha sorry for the wrong tag @LucyLoopyLu

Exactly - Think ill just have to be extra with all the due date calculators and be super carful in the 'danger zone' then decide if we continue trying after or not :/ Instead of table numbers we're going to have a table per year we've been together with a picture of us on each anniversary for the table chart 😍

Eeeep thats so so exciting! am sure all the little things will come together in no time, i often find with things like that the hardest part is just getting started. Are you doing a honeymoon straight after?

What BS about your smear?! I dont have personal experience of getting it early but what issue would it cause?! so sick of surgeries seeming to have so little consideration for how things like this effect people (obviously very grateful for them and theres so many that go above and beyond even when so stretched, but in this case its literally a waste of their resource!)

@DesertSnow hello! I had my smear done 2 weeks ago, it was due in 2 months. I was worried that TTC would impact things, or the smear would impact TTC.
My nurse was super understanding and even booked me in days before my predicated ovulation day to make sure when ovulation happened i was in the clear. Had my results back already and no concerns!

@LauraA31 @DesertSnow hey! My smear is due now too! I’m going to go if my AF turns up in 11 days time and try book in for once it’s gone so there’s plenty of time before ovulation! I’ve got a new doctors though so will be interesting as hoping to ask them as to whether they’ll run some blood tests too as we’d be cycle 7! I know you have to wait a year but might as well push my luck!

DesertSnow · 12/08/2022 18:41

Thanks @LauraA31 and @DanisEndo re. the smear - it is a bit rubbish - I guess it depends on the GP practice. Think I will phone the practice and ask for a pre-pregnancy appointment and ask them to override the system.

@Bananatoast123 Yes definitely might as well ask! Fingers crossed AF doesn't show up though.

@SarahShorty yes, bitter-sweet is exactly it. I think that is the thing, everything has to be just right, so it makes you wonder if something is wrong if it's not happening for you, even if you understand the logic behind it, you see it happening for others and your mind kind of goes 'well there must be something wrong.'

@DanisEndo That's such a lovely idea with the table numbers - we have tables for places that are important to us - ours is where we first met 😊It sounds sensible to wait out the 'danger zone' and then see how you feel. Oh yes, all the things will definitely come together, just got to get cracking!

We're having a minimoon a few days after - be interesting to see where in my cycle that will fall! Then we'll do a slightly longer honeymoon in spring/summer next year. Something to look forward to if we don't manage to get pregnant before, but I'd definitely take the baby over the honeymoon anyday!

also @SarahShorty I think my OH would freak out if we had twins - he has twin brothers and would not be keen for it! I would just count myself extremely lucky.

@DesertSnow that’s ridiculous!! You had the appointment and therefore the nurses time so seems silly not to let you have the smear!!

So after finishing my antibiotics on Wednesday the thick white CM has stopped and I know have EWCM - am new to all this stuff but I think this is usually when ovulating? Does anyone know if this could just be a follow on from the CM I had from the antibiotics or if I am likely to be ovulating? I have now been off the pill 13 days.

I know the only way of telling is to do ovulation tests but I don’t want to get into those so early in our TTC journey…..

@Tropicana1 thank you! Hope you're feeling OK, are you excited?

@SarahShorty I just watched the Great sperm race this afternoon on your recommendation! I was going to recommend it to my husband but then thought that he might find it puts him off his game 🤣 it was interesting but when you're TTC maybe not so reassuring!

@dobby13 good luck with the TWW! Good catch on the email! Could have been awkward!

@DanisEndo no worries about the tag, I was just going to say I think you clicked my name by accident! I got married in 2020 so knew it wasn't a message for me

@DesertSnow I know it's more risky and also so difficult but I would actually love twins 💜 I want 2 children so would be great to have two in one go. Obviously if it happened I would be stressed!

@Houseelf90 EWCM is a good sign so definitely go for it, I think some people get more than others though

Report
SarahShorty · 12/08/2022 21:01

@DesertSnow I wouldn't mind twins. I'll be as big as a house but it'll be worth it! I can understand your OH being reluctant for twins if he has twin brothers. Double trouble! 😂

@LucyLoopyLu Ooooh! Haha, yeah it's a hard hitter. I can see how it'd put people off but that's really not the intention. The challenges those little guys and girls face is monumental and explains why it can take a while.

@SarahShorty yeah definitely, I thought it went into a good amount of detail and explained everything well. Gives you perspective when you've been trying for a while with no success

I'm having twins (20 weeks today!) I never knew there were so many twins on my side of the family. DP has identical twin uncles. But apparently not sure how true it is but twins do not actually come from the fathers side. Don't quote me on that though!

My midwife told me that when you have twins you're 3x more likely to conceive multiples again 🤣.
