Hello

Me too.. I'm also on 2nd course of clomid. Not sure about your period length though? I've just had my week of supposed ovulation but blood test on Friday to see if progesterone level up. Just been told my sister that she is 10 1/2 weeks pregnant so that's great news but makes me sink into more of a hole. Can I ask why you are taking clomid? x

MrsDomJames · 17/01/2008 14:41

HI everyone. First time on here. Been ttc for 1 and half yrs. This is my six month on clomid. Wish i'd found this site earlier. Clomid is suppossed to make your cycle so called 'normal'. My period lasts 4 days, used to be 6. Suppossed to ovulate on day 14 on clomid, but i do on day 15 or 16. Only found this out by using opk that I finally purchased this month. I believe it works but differently for everyone. I am going to run out of room so may have two messages. I did some things different this cycle and I think I have been succesful. Had two positives two days before due which is tomorrow. I never understood why things weren't happening previous months. Here are some tips that I tried this month.

Leis3 · 22/01/2008 02:55

Me again.

Tips:

Don't take nurofen at all. Pharmacy said just proven to stop implantation.

Treated myself for thrush, because even the slightest infection can kill sperm.

Use opk kits and check cervix morning and evening.

If your pelvis isn't perfectly straight it's harder to fall. Try using a pillow during intercourse to prop hips up. Optimum position for conception.I didn't know mine is slightly off.

Splash warm then cold water alternatley on genital area before deed, as it increases blood supply which improves fertility.

Don't move for about 15mins after intercourse.

Have intercourse daily from last day of period till one day before ovulation, then again on ovulation day and thereafter for 3 days.

Or if you get are surge on opk kit go for it.

Sperm are suppossed to live for 72hrs, I believe 48hrs is more guarenteed. Daily intercourse essential. Hard yacka if your tired.

If your husband/partner asleep wake him up.

No caffine. Only one cup of coffee a day. Effects fertility

Hi Leis3,

Do you actually have a diagnosis of the underlying problem?. I ask this as clomid is often given to women with ovulatory problems (in this regard a condition called polycystic ovaries is a common culprit).

Do not use opk's if you are using clomid as clomid encourages the production of LH. The kit may well be reading this increase caused by the clomid. You may actually have got two positive results because of the clomid. Also you should be monitored whilst on it and not left.

OPK's are beset with problems anyway - they work on the misleading principles that women only have one rise in LH every month and that such a rise is followed by ovulation. Both of these are simply not true.

These are my suggestions re ttc:-

  1. If you have irregular and or painful periods or in particular have a history of either, seek medical advice sooner rather than later.
  1. Be persistant with the GP if there are problems - do not allow yourself to be fobbed off by them telling you to "come back in three months" etc.
  1. Do not use OPK's if periods are irregular - a waste of time in such circumstances.
  1. Be aware that ovulation is not an exact science and can occur earlier, later or not at all in any given cycle.
  1. Be aware that temp charting is not completely accurate a method re ovulation.
  1. Daily intercourse is not necessary - two or three times a week throughout your cycle is fine. Rigourous timing of intercourse can do more harm than good.
  1. Any spotting between periods should be checked out to ascertain the cause.
Leis3 · 22/01/2008 07:29

My obstetrician said clomid only causes false results on opk's if used for four days after clomid dose finished. A couple of my tips were from research i'd done, and the other my ob. I did try the couple of times a week for intercourse with no success. Every women is different even though they say the egg lives for twelve hours, not always the case. Maybe try this first and if no success try more often as the window not very big. Had blood test results this afternoon. Had it done this morning and doctor got it pushed through. Was positive. I was put on clomid because i wasn't ovulating. However from my blood tests each cycle have been since on clomid. Proves clomid works for some people. I have just learnt that even though you think you know your body pretty well not always the case. Crossing fingers pregnancy sticks.

Tigerschick · 22/01/2008 07:49

In answer to OP ... my period is always much lighter with Clomid than it was before.
Before I was taking it I'd have a couple of periods a year and they'd last anything up to 3 weeks. Now they last about 4 days - much better

sambrads · 22/01/2008 08:36

hi ya i am also on clomid

i will be starting my second month of clomid when af comes!!

i also found my period only lasted 4 days

do you find that clomid makes your cycle more regular????

mine is normally 32 day cycle which means it is due tommorrow but not suree if it is coming!!!

clomid would make you go insane!!!!!

MrsDomJames · 22/01/2008 10:03

Before my periods were horrific, very heavy with clots etc sorry if tmi, well i dont get that now and plus my periods are always on time when before i was anything up to a week late. So its good for something even if they dont get me pregnant, im find it much better to deal with when im on my period now as i dont have the awful cramp and i really was getting it bad before! The 1st month i had my scans and bloods and clomid did what it was meant to do but unfortunately didnt get pregnant. I think ive got to the stage now that if I cant get pregnant so be it its been so long that I give up hope.x

leis3 - CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Have you had implantation bleed?

Leis3 · 22/01/2008 22:07

No, didn't have an implatation bleed. A small percentage do. Found myself always looking for one. I did get a pinching twinge about five days after ovulation. Then on and off light cramping. I don't usually get that so hoped something was up. I know the side effects of clomid suck, but it's worth it. Keep trying, don't give up. I still having trouble believing it. My doctor said it's more benficial to try take clomid same time everyday. I had been a little everywhere with it in past cycles. Took it at seven in morning every day this cycle. Who knows.

Pinkali37 · 23/01/2008 09:24

Me too, i'm obsessed by the implantation bleed. Where abouts was your pinching twinge? High up or low down? Sorry don't mean to quiz you but I've become so obssessed by symptoms it seems to be ruling my life.

My sister has just found otu she is pregnant and it was one of those "shall we, oh go on" and one month later wallah (not fair), i feel really bitter and that's just stupid, she's my sister and I should be feeling happy for her.

Another question Leis3 (sorry), are your boobs really sore? and if so, when did this start? I keep on prodding mine but it seems only my nipples are a little painful.

xxx thank you for your advice xxx

Pinkali37 · 23/01/2008 11:31

Just telephoned Doctors for blood result and apparently it is at 1.0 NOT GOOD. Does anyone think this could be becaus eit was actually day 20 and my cycles even on clomid are around 33days? HELP feeling really low

Tigerschick · 23/01/2008 11:53

Hi Pinkali
Really sorry that your bloods came back so low. Do you know if you ovulated with your first cycle? If not they should put you up onto a higher dose now. I didn't ovulate on 50mg, which I took for 2 cycles. I then took 100mg for one cycle and have just finished a course of progesterone to stimulate my period so I can try 150mg. I'm also on Metformin.
My point in telling you all this is that there is bound to be something more that can be done. Believe me, I know how frustrating it is, but hang on in there and you will get your BFP before you know it

Pinkali37 · 23/01/2008 13:10

Hello Tigerschick,

Thank you for that. This is my second cycle of Clomid (didn't get tested 1st time as I was in Paris ). Do you think though, that cos my cycle is normally 33 days ish that day 20 was too early? My consultant has said to try 50mg for first three months and then go up to 100mg.

Tigerschick · 23/01/2008 14:57

Hi Pinkali - I'm afraid I don't know when your levels should be high, if it's working. I'm not having blood tests, I'm having scans each cycle, so I don't really understand about different blood levels. Sorry.

sambrads · 23/01/2008 17:09

hi ya pinkali37 so sorry to here that but hey i am waiting on af coming then starting second month of clomid hopefully this is our month!!!!

i also have a 33 day cycle !!!

i ahve to take clomid 50mg then she said she would put me up a dose to 100mg hope i dont need to though!!!!

Pinkali37 · 23/01/2008 17:17

Hi Sambrads, I'm just wondering whether day 20 was far too soon? What do you think?

Leis3 · 24/01/2008 03:40

Hi Pinkali37, Sorry to hear about blood test result. I was always tested on day 21. I ovulated the first cycle then not the next. The last four I have. Think just took a little bit to kick start. I had my twinge/pinching feeling on my left side low. It kind of pulsed. My nipples were really sensitive about two days after, especially in shower. My boobs were a little tender on the sides around same time, wondered if I'd bruised them checking them so much. Thing is Clomid can cause breast tenderness. One of the first symptoms I had was coffee stinks. I love coffee. Now can't drink it. If your checking cervix for pregnancy, mine is only just starting to soften and move up. I understand how you feel about sister expecting. My friend and I were at one stage trying at the same time. Her baby is now five months old. It's hard when you want something so much. It's not selfish to feel that way. Clomid is great obviously because it finally worked for me, now I just scared how many there is.
