TTC over 40 - anyone want to join the club?

Hello lovely Mumsnetters,

Mum to one toddler. Aged 42 and just got AF in first cycle TTC. Just read some of the (depressing) statistics on my age and fertility and feeling a bit glum. Thought maybe having a lovely bunch of online buddies in a similar position would be just the tonic for me and hopefully others too. Does anyone fancy joining the club?

@winterfox78
thank you
I had the initial blood tests for fertility checks just before covid hit. All was fine there and I was all lined-up for the ultrasound and further tests but everything got cancelled due to the pandemic.
Since then it has been emergency only appointments and I lost all hope.
Thanks for sharing your story, I didn’t realise they could see the follicles in such detail!
Here’s hoping for good news for all!!
🌈💫

winterfox78 · 22/06/2022 12:20

@anewbook I would try and get an appointment for an ultrasound and ...had your partner had all his tests? Is he younger or older than you?
Also you said you were turning 44 in a few weeks??
Has your GP suggested any IVF route?

bulletjournaller · 22/06/2022 12:44

I'm interested as thinking about TTC no 2 at 42. Has anyone read It Starts with the Egg? I followed this before TTC DD1 and it worked for me. Taking the ubiquinol I think makes a difference?

winterfox78 · 22/06/2022 14:08

@bulletjournaller hi yes I read it...it's well worth a read. Taking pre pregnancy vitamins is all vital.

Zipupyourmickey · 22/06/2022 15:24

Going to start with ubiquinol I think.

winterfox78 · 24/06/2022 13:45

@Zipupyourmickey @bulletjournaller @anewbook @Muppetryofthepenis @Starry77 @Yoyoathome @Perexi
Just checking in to see how everyone's doing...about to enter cycle 6....AF ruined my cycle 5 😊

Zipupyourmickey · 24/06/2022 13:51

Hi @winterfox78 ! I just had a painful period :( so needless to say I'm out for another month.

Perexi · 24/06/2022 16:10

Hey @winterfox78 weird one for me I'm normally super regular but wasn't this month 3 day's late but AF finally arrived last night. Thinking maybe as I gave blood last Saturday it might have affected it especially as far more painful than usual. On to cycle two of trying eeek hopefully this one will be luckier for us all!

Starry77 · 24/06/2022 21:28

@winterfox78 i am good thank you, according to my app I am 6+3 today and no symptoms so enjoy that while it lasts 😂 fingers crossed for cycle 6 to be a good one for you and hopefully a BFP

Cranberryclover · 27/06/2022 11:40

So, I got a positive on Friday showing 1-2 weeks. It still says that today and I should be 5 weeks today. Last three pregnancies said 2-3 by this point (only one successful). I’ve no real symptoms apart from tiredness and very brief/light nausea. I don’t think this is going to be successful. I’ve a scan in 2 weeks, but not sure I’ll make it that long (although I have a history of MMC). Odd as I really didn’t think it would happen this month. I’ve got so used to miscarriages, I’m more annoyed about the admin (the waiting game, the bleeding, the operation of applicable), than I think I am the loss at the moment.

Hi all.

Please can I join in also?

I'm 42, already have two sons (12/15) and have been trying for over a year with my current partner. We have both had tests and are within normal range of everything but towards the lower end. It's been so disheartening and upsetting and really put a terrible strain on us. I'm almost ready to give up to be honest.

It will be good to hear other people's stories and be part of an encouraging and supportive group.

Sorry, I don't really know all the abbreviations.

EnnaMc · 28/06/2022 09:44

Can I also ask, are people on this thread trying through IVF, naturally or is it a mix?

Hey!

That's good that you are both in normal range, fingers crossed it happens for you soon. We have only just started trying so haven't had any Tests or anything just trying and seeing how we go and hoping for the best.

winterfox78 · 28/06/2022 12:13

@EnnaMc trying naturally here.

Trying for number 2.
Have a DD who is 3.

EnnaMc · 28/06/2022 13:46

@Perexi I wish you lots of luck. Do you mind me asking your age?

Hi. How are you finding the journey, naturally. That is what we are doing just now also, but it's really taking it out of us. Wishing you lots of luck

winterfox78 · 28/06/2022 14:07

@EnnaMc we have been trying for about 4 months now.
I won't be trying IVF.

We have decided that if doesn't happen in the next few months ...probably isn't going to happen...

We are just keeping really relaxed about it..

I have a beautiful daughter ...and I know some on here are tying for their first over 40 and mid 40's

So I'm really grateful for what we have..keeping it relaxed...if it happens it happens.

I had my first at 40...so anything is possible.

Of course not, I'm 40 my partner is 37 and we're trying for our first.

Chasingclouds100 · 28/06/2022 17:25

EnnaMc - trying naturally here for 13 months aged 44

winterfox78 · 29/06/2022 00:37

@Chasingclouds100 also trying naturally...are you temping or using ovulation tests?

Chasingclouds100 · 29/06/2022 09:00

Winterfox78 - not doing temping or ovulation tests. I always know when I’m ovulating as I experience ovulation pains so that helps but I have been thinking about perhaps trying them just to be certain. I’m getting to the stage where I think we may have to seek medical help but I’m worried that I will just be told outright that I can’t get any help as I’m too old. It’s frustrating as I conceived Dc1 and DC2 straight away but that was 11 and 13 years ago. Are you temping or doing ovulation charts at all? I have also been taking ubiquinol for over a year and vitamin B12 as they are meant to help

winterfox78 · 29/06/2022 12:03

@Chasingclouds100 yes I'm temping and using ovulation sticks...just to help.
I actually ovulate earlier than I thought....

I use Clearblue digital at day 10...first thing in the morning as it suggests...

Chasingclouds100 · 29/06/2022 12:33

Winterfox78 - ohh I may have to try them thank you

Cranberryclover · 29/06/2022 19:17

So am definitely out this time. EPU scanned me Monday and showed a PUL. Bloods dropped from 88 HCG on Monday to 77 today, so guess it’s just a waiting game now. They’re doing more bloods on Friday as it needs to get to below 35.

winterfox78 · 29/06/2022 23:46

One thing I have learnt / noticed ....this isn't true for everyone...is that Apps such as Flo can be totally off !
I think we have been DTD far too early in my cycle and should continue after Day 14/15!
I have a semi-regular cycle,24/25 days.

Just a thought!

I'm not following the app anymore ..
