Hi All

Really excited for you @Kelb79 and a lovely idea to get us all to update. Great hearing all your stories, wishing all of us loads of luck ❤️

me: 42 OH 43
TTC: Too long 😢
No issues found, but consultant advised us to get on with IVF.
IVF: 1st cycle IVF in January, 11 eggs collected, 8 fertilised, 6 made it to day 5 blastocysts. After PGTA testing, I have 2 embryos in the freezer to transfer.

I’m now waiting to start an FET cycle, but for once my AF is refusing to come!! Cycle day 35 and counting. When I didn’t want her to come she wouldn’t stay away, now I want her to arrive - nada!! 🙄

Hi all I started this thread after turning 41 and suffering a MMC. Multiple chemical pregnancies and a further MMC of twins, later I went down the DE option. I am now 43 and went into labour on Tuesday and my Triplets were born during an emergency cesarian yesterday morning. Myself and my oh couldn't be more in love with them. They are perfect. I will post a photo soon. But wishing you all the baby dust in the world xxx

Iusedtobedontcall · 25/03/2023 08:33

Hope you are doing well with your lovely little ones @October1979 . Can’t wait to see pics!

Genetic testing from the placenta came back yesterday and didn’t give the definitive answers I’d hoped. It’s ‘highly likely’ she had Downs but the extra chromosomes were present in some cells but not every cell they tested.

In some very very rare cases, that can affect the placenta and not the foetus. It also doesn’t rule out a genetic cause as this type of Downs can be passed on by a partial extra chromosome from one of the parents. Again this is incredibly rare and chances are it was a random, one off occurrence.

They took bloods from me and DH to rule out a genetic factor and if there was, we could be referred to the genetics team and possibly have IVF with embryos tested for the correct number of chromosomes. The bloods take a month or two to come back but I’m reassured that it was probably just chance.

@October1979 Congratulations! I only come onto Mumsnet to read your updates and I'm so so pleased for you. This thread really helped me when we were trying for our second and I'm thrilled about your new. Huge congratulations on your little bundles, hope you're ready for the chaos!!!!! 😉

Kelb79 · 25/03/2023 12:10

@Iusedtobedontcall im so glad they’re looking into everything properly for you, it’s so often not the case and you’re left with so many uncertainties. I hope you’re doing ok through it all lovely xxxx ❤️❤️❤️

Iusedtobedontcall · 25/03/2023 21:28

Thanks @Kelb79 . I’ve been torturing myself thinking - what if it was confined to the placenta? Or what if it was the mosaic form and extremely mild.

I’m a bit thrown by the fact that they didn’t find the additional chromosome in every cell.

And a bit gutted. I thought I had done the right thing and now I’m not so sure. I was looking at a little sister babygrow today. And if we don’t get our rainbow, I’ll always wonder - what if?

curliegirlie · 26/03/2023 09:04

@Iusedtobedontcall I didn't want to read and run, but just wanted to reassure you that you can't predict the levels of needs of someone with Down's syndrome, even by whether it was T21 or mosaicism. They are all affected differently. If you terminated because you didn't believe you could cope with a child with additional needs or were concerned about the affect on the rest of your family, it was still the right thing to do for your circumstances.

Iusedtobedontcall · 26/03/2023 11:49

Thanks @curliegirlie . You are right. It’s not likely it was just confined to the placenta as that is very rare and I did the best I could with the information I had at the time.

curliegirlie · 26/03/2023 19:12

@Iusedtobedontcall full disclosure: my 7 year old has Down's syndrome (hence why I know about the prevalence of different types) but I found out postnatally. I completely understand your decision, but I feel furious about the way the news was broken to you and what the nurse said. I'm sorry you had to deal with that (and the inevitable fall out). Medical professionals still peddle so many of the outdated stats. And, as you say, so frustrating that the genetic test didn't really resolve things. Good luck with the rest of your TTC journey 💐

Iusedtobedontcall · 26/03/2023 19:26

@curliegirlie thank you - I appreciate your support. I do wish we had been given more information with all the possible outcomes. We may well have made the same decision but we may not have done. I made it under such pressure and while feeling horrendously sick too, which didn’t help.

Littlemiss42andfabulous · 26/03/2023 21:30

@October1979 that's such wonderful news! Huge congratulations! Enjoy getting to know your babies! XxX

@October1979 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ totally utterly GORGEOUS!!!!! How are they all doing? And how are you? Biggest congratulations!!!! xxxxx

October1979 · 26/03/2023 22:10

They are all doing well and 2 already breathing on their own. Just waiting on wee Milo to catch up. But they are all developing faster than they would have predicted. They all have different wee personalities and look the double of their daddy! I can't explain how in love I am with them. The fact that they are DE doesn't make a difference at all. They are just them and I wouldn't have them any other way. They are perfect! I hope you all get your happy endings too. Life couldn't be any sweeter xxx
