pinkali37,

well done. i agree with everything you are saying

DungunGirl · 23/07/2008 08:42

Thank you Pinkali

Your post has helped me make up my mind. I am going to DO IT damn it!

I am on day 19 today, so come day 2 of my new cycle I will be popping those pills.

Like you said 50mg is the lowest dosage after all, and it might be all I need to help!

Thank you guys! I will be holding my breath until then.

Pink - how are you doing sweety? You must really far along now!

Pinkali37 · 23/07/2008 09:03

Dungungirl,

Go for it... a lot of people post scare tactics because they don't know anything other. Just be aware of the very rare hyperstimulation effects so the fever, sickness, severe pain and you will be fine. Most people have hot flushes, some have headaches but other than that you should be fine. Also, depending on how much you have I would do 50mg for 2 months and then move onto 100mg. I really do wish you well.

I am doing very well thank you. I will be 24 weeks on Friday! Can't believe how quickly the weeks fly by once you get past the dreaded 12 week period. That was awful, not only did I have lots of scares, numerous scans and blood tests I also had a really bad chest infection so the first 12 weeks for me were CR*P... and like you, I had a MC in Oct so know oh so well how painful the whole waiting process is. (If you would like to look at my pictures of bump and scans).

Please let me know how you are getting on. If you need any help just ask. xxx

cam75 · 23/07/2008 10:15

pinkali37,

your bump is lovely........
How are you feeling? any weird cravings?

sars87 · 23/07/2008 10:24

DungunGirl. I total agree with what everyone has said. My GP gave me clomid, told me what to watch out for the the fever, pain and stop if i got it and told me to basically get on with it. just go for it, dont be scared and good luck. x

cam75 · 23/07/2008 10:29

sars87,

what cycle of clomid are you on? i am on cycle 3 and i have another 3 too go? the waiting game

Pinkali37 · 23/07/2008 11:11

Thank you Cam...

Chocolate ice cream and in first 10 weeks oranges and pasta and tomato sauce. Had loads of food aversions though. Would open fridge and just think YUK to everything, that was vey strange because I love food!! I also only had nausea for 2 weeks and didn't really have morning sickness so nothing in my pregnancy has been stereotypical. As well my boobs were never really sore or painful and I thought this wa bad but subsequently found out that it didn't matter.

I pray for you all that you all eventually become pregnant. x

Pinkali37 · 23/07/2008 11:12

Cam i was lucky on month 3 so i hope the same happens for you!!! x

clairebear88 · 23/07/2008 11:13

Hi all

Been ttc for 18 months and I had the blood test which showed I was on the low end of normal for ovulation so my doc prescribed clomid straightaway with out scans. Im now on the 2nd cycle with minor side effects ( feeling down, occasional lower ab pains). Im not being monitored either which is worrying but am gonna call docs to check me over. DH also has low sperm count too but im feeling positive about the whole situation.
Good luck to all
baby dust

Pinkali37 · 23/07/2008 11:20

I personally and from my experience don't think the monitoring is necessary, it certainly makes the whole process less natural. So long as you are aware of things to watch out for you will be ok.

Claire, Clomid should help you produce more eggs thus helping your DH sperm (the ones he has) every opporunity to grab hold of one. My DH only has 33% good ones!!!

cam75 · 23/07/2008 11:27

Thanks pinkali37,

the good news is that i am ovualting which i was not before so i do see the light at the end of the tunnel.....
When are you due? do you know what you are having or it will be a surpise?

Pinkali37 · 23/07/2008 11:40

Excellent news Cam. I didn't ovulate with my first 2 months worth and wall all prepared to start on 100mg in month 4, alas not needed!!

I am due November 14th (and trust me, I can still not believe how lucky I am). We don't know what i am having as I really want it to be a surprise. My sister who is 8 weeks ahead of me knows she is having a girl so is shopping for all things girly but i think there will be plenty of time when the baby is born to buy all the cute things in what ever colour!

Cam, do you have any other children??

cam75 · 23/07/2008 11:47

i love the element of surpise

No i don't have any children but hopefully soon. I have to admit that i was feeling down that nothing has happened yet, and thinking that i only have 3 more months for something to happen?
Now i pray on it and i am not focusing too much as the body does the opp if you are under stress.
I really don't want to do ivf again too stressful.............
Even tho with this pcos thing, it is not on the bad side i just am not ovualting. So now i will just continue with it and the side effects which is hot flushes :O

ChoChoSan · 23/07/2008 13:30

Quick question for fellow Clomid takers... I have done 3 months on 50mg Clomid, and this month (#4) my pharmacist gave me a generic prescription 50mg clomiphene, supposed to be the same as Clomid, but is non-branded.

Anyway, it's the same stuff, so I didn't think twice about it, but this month I have not experienced any side effects - previously they had been growing in strength each month.

The only difference I have noticed has been a lsight 'fluttering' feeling for the past 12 days or so somewhere in the region of my womb.

Has anyone else experienced the side effects diminishing over time? It seems odd to me!

cam75 · 23/07/2008 13:47

i haven't experienced that???? i am on cycle 3???? how may more months do you have to go?

ChoChoSan · 23/07/2008 13:56

I have only got 2 more months of Clomid to go after this one. There is no evidence to say that I am not ovulating - unexplained infertility, so I decided not to up the dose to 100mg for this three cycles, as I didn't want to waste all of my eggs.

I think I'll be up for IUI after the next 2 cycles. I am at that depressing point of realising that there is a considerable possibility that we will never have our own children, as the success rates of IUI and IVF are lower than Clomid!

Pinkali37 · 23/07/2008 13:58

I found that my symptoms were not bad on the months I didn't ovulate. BUT that was just me. Remember Clomid is a drug that does not work by a build up of the drug in your body. Each individual course (month) is treated separately so some months it may not work. My consultant had told me that if it hadn't worked in the first 3 months to increase the dose to 100mg for last 3 months.

ChoChoSan · 23/07/2008 14:10

I am fairly sure that I am ovulating (if a little late), but from my temp charts, I didn't ov. on my second month, and I don;t think I show as ovulating this month (4) either, as sadly on both of these months I didn't temp consistently, and so I have some gaps in my chart.

I definitely noticed a build up in the degree of pain and side effects during my first 3 months of taking Clomid though, but it's probably different for everyone.

Pinkali37 · 23/07/2008 15:41

I didn't temp at all. Just followed consultants advice on when to do it. You do realise that upping dosage to 100mg will not neccessarily mean you lose lots of eggs it will just mean if 50mg hasn't worked effectively, that it may help it to start to work. You will only lose a couple more eggs not hundreds.

Stay positive, there is absolutely no reason why these next few months you may not conceive. No reason why it can't be the 6th month. It doesn't build up in you. I conceived in month 3 so I question why not the first 2 months. Stay strong and keep doing it. Have you given up caffeine and alcohol? are you taking folic acid and omega 3? I took the pregnacare dual packet ones from October last year and am still on them. It all helps!!

sars87 · 23/07/2008 15:51

Cam75 - I am on my first cycle of clomid. so far no side effects and i hope all goes well.

ChoChoSan - don't give up hope, it could still happen for you. But you need to always remember that there are other options out there. xxx

How are you other wise?

cam75 · 24/07/2008 16:19

does anyone know if 60 is good? the 21 day pro test?

ChoChoSan · 24/07/2008 16:46

Thanks, Pink and Sars! i have found temping quite helpful, as it revealed that I ovulate around CD18 - way later than suggested by medics! Realised boyfriend and I were focussing most of our sex at the wrong time of the month (and we fed up of each other by the time CD18 came along .)

Moonlit · 24/07/2008 18:10

Hi Lovely ladies,

I always read this post, because hopefully after 23 months of TTC#2 I will get Clomid. I have had to jump through a lot of hoops but I have learnt to be VERY patient.

Now in regards to DungunGirl, we both post on the PCOS thread. And I have come to be very fond of her and admire her immensely for what she has had to go through and how she has never given up. I know you all mean well and want the best for her, but as current clomid takers and clomid success stories you are not doctors. You have been very lucky and blessed, not to have reacted to Clomid. If anything happened to DungunGirl, then you will be partly responsible. As a PCOS sufferer she is more likely to have an adverse reaction to Clomid, hyperstimulation with Clomid, amongst PCOS sufferers is very common. I am not a Doctor, but I work in the medical field. I am only saying this out of concern for her.

I hope you don't mind. And DungunGirl it's your decision at the end of the day. But please think this through very carefully. I am not scaring you! I am just giving you my very honest opinion. I am in the same boat to so I do understand.

Good luck to you all. I hope I have not offended anyone.

x
