Preparing to TTC in 2022

DH has agreed to starting to TTC baby #3 in April/May. We already have a 2 daughters (age 4 and 2). I'm so excited to start trying! I think it's going to be a long wait until we can start actively trying!

Starting to think about things to do to help prepare my body. I'm currently on the progesterone only pill so thinking of when to stop it. I have 5 days left in this packet and then one packet left after that in my current prescription. Don't know whether to stop when I finishes this packet or at the end of Jan after my next packet. Any experiences of how long it takes cycle to regulate after the pill?

I need to try and eat healthier as I've been so bad recently with Christmas but I'm a healthy weight so not too worried there. Also ordered some TTC vitamins which I remember from previous pregnancies is good to take 3 months before TTC.

Anything else I could do? Is there anyone else who will be starting to try later in the year and so excited that you're already on here 🙈?

Found out I need surgery for something unrelated, won't be allowed to go ahead if I'm pregnant so desperately crossing my fingers for an op date soon so I can still start TTC in the summer.

WingingIt09 · 10/01/2022 11:35

Oh no @Amber17 I hope nothing too serious and that you get a date quickly!

@Dreamingof3 yes we did the big sister t-shirt last time too for family. Didn't really do anything tell my eldest as she was only 1 at the time (there's 25 months between them).

I'm hoping pregnancy sickness won't be too bad, it was horrendous with my eldest and a bit better with my second but managed to hide it from my daughter as she was so little. Think as they are older it would worry them now if I'm always being sick, particularly my eldest as she's quite an anxious child.

@Amber17 I hope you can get a date soon 🤞

Oh god I forgot about the sickness. My eldest I would be sick and then feel fine, maybe 3 times a day, but my second I was sick maybe twice the whole pregnancy, the nausea however was horrific and I definitely don't want that again!

Jennifer89 · 10/01/2022 13:15

@Amber17 fingers crossed for you.

My dh is awaiting date for an eye operation so we want to wait to ttc till after he has recovered from that. Hoping we get a date not too far in the future..

HippeePrincess · 10/01/2022 15:26

@WingingIt09 did you stop at the end of a packet as normal?

I kept DC2 off facebook til 16 weeks but I would usually have an early scan and just start telling people. Both my NHS scans were booked for 13+ weeks and I couldn't wait, but also I was showing (I have a uterus that tilts forwards) so I show early I had people asking me at 9/10 weeks and it was obvious.

Not a clue how we will announce, to anyone to be honest probably nothing elaborate but if we tie it in with a new house tour (thinking having a nursery plaque on the smallest bedroom door) that could be fun.

I'd like something special for DP, he will have been waiting for this for so long.

I was horrendously sick with DC2 and I am really worried how I will cope and keep that under wraps at work. I work patient facing in health in an inpatient setting (not general hospital). Hoping to have an ensuite in the new house to hide sickness from my two.

@Dreamingof3 nice stash!

@Amber17 I hope it doesn't set you back too long, have you been given indications of timescales? Same to you @Jennifer89

WingingIt09 · 10/01/2022 15:27

@Dreamingof3 oh yeas, I was only sick a few times with my second but nausea was constant unless I kept snacking. My first I spent about 5 weeks vomiting multiple times a day and then continued vomiting a few times a week until the end 🤦‍♀️

WingingIt09 · 10/01/2022 15:32

@HippeePrincess yes I did, no idea what my body is doing 🤷‍♀️ I'm sure it'll sort itself out but the limbo of waiting for it is annoying 😂

@WingingIt09 That’s freaky, how does your body know there’s something different? You didn’t miss any pills and are pregnant?
Guessing it’s like when you’re late and you work yourself up and stress and as soon as you take a test your AF shows so there’s some psychosomatic element to it.

WingingIt09 · 10/01/2022 15:54

@HippeePrincess I did miss one but we used condoms too so I'd be surprised if I am pregnant! Although I have fallen pregnant on the coil with it in the correct place before... I have a stash of cheapie tests so tempted to take one but I know it'll be a BFN so it would be a wasted test 😂🙈

Dreamingof3 · 10/01/2022 16:09

@HippeePrincess I really like the nursery idea, tying it into the new house.

@WingingIt09 the snacking was what helped me too but then I found out I had gd and I couldn't have any if my cravings any more 🥲

Now I know all those tests are there I'm itching to start using them...I know it's a but early for that though! Good job I got so many 😆

OCM19 · 10/01/2022 16:10

I love all of these pregnancy announcement ideas…I haven’t even thought about that part!

I chickened out and took my pill last night, but might stop tonight rather than finishing the pack! Smile hopefully I can then start tracking my cycles when my period returns

Dreamingof3 · 10/01/2022 16:21

@OCM19 honestly 90% of my.time is spent planning for this hypothetical baby. We decided around August last year that we'd try this april/may so I've had lots of time to obsess 😂

I'm just hoping to spend the next couple of months tracking and hoping things fall where I want them to. Looking forward to my holiday and hopefully coming home to a BFP!

OCM19 · 10/01/2022 16:23

@Dreamingof3 I feel the same, it’s something that really consumes you isn’t it!? Fingers crossed for your holiday and getting your BFP!

Are your cycles regulating now? How long have you been off contraception?

WingingIt09 · 10/01/2022 16:38

@Dreamingof3 yes I've had a lot of time to obsess too. I had an unplanned pregnancy in July that sadly ended in a MC and we then agreed in August that we would TTC April/May. It's a long time to obsess 😂🙈

OP posts:
Dreamingof3 · 10/01/2022 17:01

I'm sorry @WingingIt09, being unplanned doesn't make it any easier when something like that happens 😪

I'm just all baby all the time 😂 I really really want a vbac this time too so I know I need to focus on getting rid of this extra weight and doing my research so I'm in the best position for that

WingingIt09 · 10/01/2022 17:40

@Dreamingof3 it's definitely not. A whole rollercoaster of emotions in finding out I was pregnant and then about 2 weeks of limbo of am I miscarrying or not. I'm now just focused on TTC to get my rainbow (which is probably an additional reason why I'm so obsessed over it all).

OCM19 · 10/01/2022 21:39

@WingingIt09 sorry to hear about your miscarriage, fingers crossed for your rainbow BFP 🌈.

itsnearlymytime · 10/01/2022 21:48

I am so glad I have found this thread, honestly thought I was the only one on here who hasn't started TTC yet but will be soon! Hope I can join you? My boyfriend and I are going to start TTC in August / September! Xx

OCM19 · 10/01/2022 21:49

@itsnearlymytime This is the TTC thread, a lot of us are preparing to TTC later or just starting our journey Smile

OCM19 · 10/01/2022 21:53

Welcome @itsnearlymytime 👋, will this be your first? When are you planning to come off contraception? I’m stopping my pill tonight Grin

itsnearlymytime · 10/01/2022 21:55

@OCM19 I'm actually not on anything at the moment, I've never been on contraception we've only ever used condoms! Oooh that's so exciting, is it your first time coming off them? :)

OCM19 · 10/01/2022 22:01

Ahh I see, so you know your cycles well then? No,I have a DS who will be 3 in March, so came off the pill when we started our first TTC journey for him!

itsnearlymytime · 10/01/2022 22:11

Yess know them fairly well now, this will be our first time TTC so I'm a little nervous ! Oh bless that's amazing, I think that's a great age gap! Which month are you planning on TTC?

WingingIt09 · 10/01/2022 22:21

Welcome @itsnearlymytime I set up this bread for everyone who is preparing to TTC but not yet started so you are very welcome to join us!

OP posts:
HippeePrincess · 10/01/2022 22:22

Hi @itsnearlymytime have you both got some goals to achieve before your ttc date?

@WingingIt09 I experienced something similar with a mmc before dc2, I am not surprised it's all you can think of, I ended up ttc right away because of it despite it being terrible timing!

We made the decision to ttc a year ago, we were supposed to start now in January but there were a few delays so we have had to push back, it feels like an age!
