Preparing to TTC in 2022

DH has agreed to starting to TTC baby #3 in April/May. We already have a 2 daughters (age 4 and 2). I'm so excited to start trying! I think it's going to be a long wait until we can start actively trying!

Starting to think about things to do to help prepare my body. I'm currently on the progesterone only pill so thinking of when to stop it. I have 5 days left in this packet and then one packet left after that in my current prescription. Don't know whether to stop when I finishes this packet or at the end of Jan after my next packet. Any experiences of how long it takes cycle to regulate after the pill?

I need to try and eat healthier as I've been so bad recently with Christmas but I'm a healthy weight so not too worried there. Also ordered some TTC vitamins which I remember from previous pregnancies is good to take 3 months before TTC.

Anything else I could do? Is there anyone else who will be starting to try later in the year and so excited that you're already on here 🙈?

@HippeePrincess haha no I'm not a fan of condoms either and DH is a nightmare with trying to try his luck and not wear one but I'd rather put up with it for a few months and get the pill hormones out my system pre-TTC and if DH doesn't like it he can go without 😂😂

May I join please? DH is having a vasectomy reversal in April/May so we can TTC #2. Trying not to get too hopeful as I know reversals don't always work. Surgeon said our age (I am 33 and DH 30), the fact that the vasectomy was only 5 years ago and that we have proven fertility together are good signs though so fingers crossed.

I am a couple of kg overweight as DS (almost 6) has never been a good sleeper so I have relied too heavily on sugar over the years Grin So plan is to lose an average of 0.5kg a week until the reversal when I will be safely in the healthy BMI range. DH is also going to lose some weight.

Also going to get the Wellman and Wellwoman conception vitamins this month.

Good luck to everyone!

WingingIt09 · 30/12/2021 10:03

@Vasectomyreversalhopeful of course you can Smile fingers crossed the reversal is successful!

Hi! I will be starting in the new year too, first time. Im getting my contraceptive implant taken out in the middle of Jan. I've been on hormonal contraception non stop since 2007 so a little concerned to see what life is like with out it!

Vasectomyreversalhopeful · 30/12/2021 14:01

Thanks Winging :) I really hope it works but if it doesn't I still have a wonderful life with my DS.

Trixie22 · 30/12/2021 14:39

Can I join please?

Hoping to TTC #3! We have 2 DC (eldest will be 2 in Summer 2022), we know it's a very small age gap to have 3 in but we'd rather have the smaller gaps and be able to move on from the sleepless nights and nappies quicker.

Lifeisnteasy · 30/12/2021 15:09

Me! Not on any hormonal contraception but I need to get my blood sugars under control & achieve a HBA1C of around 45 before I can start trying. It’s somewhere in the 60s at the moment 😬

Hoping I’ll be ready by March time…

Are any of your men taking preconception vitamins? I’ve read it’s very beneficial for both men & women to take the vitamins for a couple of months before trying, picked some up for DH the other day but he keeps forgetting 🙄 😆

Nyxxie · 30/12/2021 15:32

I have ordered some vitamins for my OH as he saw mine and commented that he'd be happy to take some too. Can't hurt Smile

Vasectomyreversalhopeful · 30/12/2021 15:54

I am getting the Wellman ones Life :)

Am looking at the Clearblue Fertility Monitor but can't make my mind up. With DS I conceived the first month I used the Clearblue ovulation sticks and the fertility monitor looks simple to use. Anyone use/have used?

WingingIt09 · 30/12/2021 17:28

@Trixie22 that is a small gap but if it is what works for your family that's great we're going for a bigger gap between 2 & 3m aiming for around 3.5 years. There's 25 months between my girls and it was very hard that first year (although lockdowns and no family support probably didn't help that!). It's paying off now as they have a lovely relationship at 4 and 2yo. Hoping baby #3 won't end up left out due to the bigger gap!

@Lifeisnteasy I haven't ordered DH any, I'm not sure if he would actually remember to take them. Might speak to him about it tonight. Mine haven't arrived yet as I ordered them from Boots alongside my sale shopping. Hopefully will arrive soon. I'm going for the seven seas ones myself as they are small tablets and easier to take!

@Vasectomyreversalhopeful I have just got the cheap onestep ovulation sticks off Amazon. 50 for like £8/£9. I've never used the clear blue ones as I was put off by the cost Confused

I think there’s some merit in small age gaps, I’d have preferred smaller gaps then I’ll be ending up with.
We both have vitamins, some generic sex specific ones just now with a view to change to conception focused vitamins once this packet runs out. We take them at the same time hoping that one of us remembers as I’m terrible at remembering.

WingingIt09 · 30/12/2021 18:15

@HippeePrincess I've got into the habit of taking my vitamin alongside my pill before bed. Hoping I'll remember to keep taking it when I stop taking my pill on Sunday. Atm I'm just in generic multivitamins too but once they've run out I'm switching to the 'Seven Seas trying for a baby" ones x

Haha it is but the thought of coming back to the new born stage, as much as I love it, is stressful 😂
We are very lucky that we have incredible family around us for childcare and support! I don't think we'd have managed a second without our families tbh.

WingingIt09 · 30/12/2021 20:20

@Trixie22 yes if I'd been able to have family support that would have been helpful and made it a lot easier. We are lucky enough to have great family support, which I had intended to use last time but DD2 was only 4 months when COVID started so unfortunately didn't get to use family support as planned 🤦‍♀️

Hi all. Planning to start for baby number 2 around then too. I had awful PND with number 1 (born autumn 2018) and have only just started feeling ready to go there again. Starting later in the year because I can't face another autumn/winter newborn! So will be good to have some moral support while I try- took me about 8 months last time so not expecting instant results...

HippeePrincess · 30/12/2021 20:39

I had undiagnosed pnd with my first, I think part of hat was my useless partner and a lack of support, however with my second I was fine so don’t worry about the what ifs as things can be really different. I don’t think there’s anything quite like going from just you to you and a baby!

Aw thanks, that makes me feel hopeful! It really was so shockingly weird to go from no baby to having one, took me ages to come to terms with it. Now I'm finally enjoying it, so foolishly going to throw in another baby grenade to the mix!
HippeePrincess · 30/12/2021 21:12

In for a penny in for a pound eh Grin

Vasectomyreversalhopeful · 30/12/2021 21:16

It took me 5 years to be ready for a second. Largely due to DS being an awful sleeper Grin Keeping everything crossed a second would be a good sleeper but probably kidding myself!

YYY85 · 30/12/2021 21:46

Planning to start trying soon too. Had an early mc in august and only just feeling back to normal now. Also nearing late 30's so hoping we get our rainbow and a sibling for DD3. 🤞

WingingIt09 · 31/12/2021 07:19

@YYY85 sorry for your loss ❤️ fingers crossed things happen quickly for you when you start xx

So sorry for your loss YYY85 Flowers

HippeePrincess · 31/12/2021 08:12

@YYY85 I admire you waiting to try again, I should have waited to get pregnant with dc2 but didn’t and my body was knackered, I was pregnant again without a proper break and I had a pretty crap pregnancy which almost put me off ttc with dp.

Are any of you planning for your oh’s to be the main caregiver after the baby stage? I currently earn more in our household so I will need to go back to work either full time or almost full time.

hevann · 31/12/2021 15:30

Hi, a thread I can finally comment on! Lol! I hope it's ok to join? I have 19 pills to take before I'm off. Not going to lie I'm really nervous. I've been on the pill since I was 16 & switched pills 6 years ago due to migraines and haven't had a period since. DH & I have been talking about having a baby for years & now after all the excuses have run out (we need to be more financially stable, we need a house... blah) we're finally there. I'm so excited to start trying but I'm nearly 36 & so scared it might not happen. Looking forward to hearing everyone's journey though & hopefully sharing advice xx

WingingIt09 · 31/12/2021 16:11

Hi @hevann of course it is 😊 it's a definitely a big step to switch from preventing a pregnancy after doing so for so many years to actually trying to conceive! I hope your cycles regulate quickly after coming off. I've got 3 pills left of mine but not actually starting actively trying till April/May. Im just coming off in anticipation so that my body is ready to go for then (hopefully anyway!)
